  • Mr. Brokelhurst sounds like Snape

  • Mr Brokelhurst: What must you do to avoid this?

Jane: Keep well and not die!

    lol!!

  • you 8 who disliked this have no brains at all!!! This is awesome! Thanks for uploading!

  • Thank you for uploading this. I've been trying to figure out which version it was I remember watching when I was younger and this is the one :)

  • Merci pour ce merveilleux film ! Aussi réussi que le livre !

  • Anna Paquin!!

  • And both Fiona Shaw & Anna Paquin would play together again in True Blood!

  • Thank you so much.

  • Mógłby ktoś przetłumaczyć na polski. To jest najlepsza ekranizacja a nikt akurat tego nie pofatygował się przetłumaczyć.

  • This is the best Jane Eyre I love the actress who plays her.

  • Thank you so much! I love this version!

  • Mrs. Reed also play's in True Blood as Marnie!

  • Thank you! Happy Holidays!

  • I love you so much for uploading this version!!! Thank You!

  • I can't tolerate the recent use of over-exxagerated sound effects -- for exmple where footsteps are much louder than in real life or claasic film.

  • is Jane eyre's aunt play as Harry potter's aunt?

  • Oh Petunia you evil little bitch...

  • i love this version it was the first i saw :)

  • omg she was a witch in true blood! wow does she always play evil ppl?

  • Remember reading this book on some rainy day in the house of my grandmother. I found so good thet I couldn't stop reading it. <3<3<3<3

  • this is so wrong the story is not like that at all

  • 2006 FTW! I'll watch this one too though ^-^

  • A very young Anna Paquin from NZ plays the child Jane. Also well known for her role in The Piano.

  • WATCH the 1997 version! Ciaran Hinds is sensational!

  • this is my favourite jane eyre :) loads of people say the 2006 version was best but i think 1996 was by fa the best. i need the see the new one :) x

  • Around 1:23 I thought for a second that I was about to hear Exorcist Theme. I really don't know why...:D

  • Mrs. Reed reminds me of Mrs. Oleson from little house on the prairie, except mrs oleson is funny.

  • This version is my least favorite; infact i do not even like to watch it at all. The 1997 with Ciaran Hinds is definitely the best ever.

  • You all noticed that the mother is Mrs. Dursley and from True Blood but none of you noticed that Little Jane Eyre is also Anna Paquin!! Surprised nobody realized that first!!

  • @MissNB1010 I'm pretty sure the people who watched this knows it's Anna Paquin..

  • @MissNB1010 i did! i recognized her immediately. her face has not changed to much since childhood

  • WOW I just noticed that that's marnie! HAH

  • @golddigger0325 Hahaha! Are you a True Blood watcher too? Hehehee! She also plays Harry's evil Aunt in the Harry Potter series too!! XD

  • No way, rogue out of x men!

  • @NicotineCrash that's so awesome!

  • So weird seeing them now with anna paquin all grown up on true blood and watching her acting alongside fiona shaw

  • Thumbs up if Jane Eyre Rocks!!!!

  • Totally skipped the fierceness of child Jane calling out Mrs. Reed.

  • This gerl is a LIAAH! *end*

  • Viva il nostro grande genio Zeffirelli!!

  • love jane eyre

  • She does a great british accent! Much better than Drew Barrymore in Ever After! Plus Anna is MUCH younger than Drew! :P Annas so cute in this :D

  • I love the novel.. this film is accurate but almost not scary enough for me..

  • I really LOVE youtube right now! THANK YOU so much for putting this up!

  • I like the middle part of the book, there's where the romance part started...

  • I like the book better. They skipped a lot of info.. >-<

  • "and what must you do to avoid it?"

"Keep well and not die, sir" ...I've always found this funny for some reason

  • I've always had trouble getting through the beginning of the book. looks like the movie is the same way

  • OMG Aunt Petunia is Mrs. Reed's reincarnation.

  • @turtlewings

as poor Jane's red room a forerunner of Harry's cupboard...:p

  • i thought the book was great! until it ended.....

  • Don't see the movie, read the book ! The book is always better than the movie...

  • this is sooo bad! The BOOK IS WAYYY BETTER!

  • You can see her character in every move, every glance and in an open and straight forward manner in which she speaks. You can feel at once that this girl has got strong willpower which won`t be easy to break. I think for that reason Anna Paquin was a really great choice for this role. Not many children her age could look so persuasive.

I wonder about those who`ve seen other versions - what do you think of actresses who played young Jane in them? Which is the best young Jane? :)

  • Of all the adaptations of Jane Eyre I have seen or had a glimpse of, this is the best, most believeable ever done. Franco Zeffirelli is a talented film director who has experience with great historical figures, period dramas and classic literature ("Jesus of Nazareth," "Brother Sun, Sister Moon," "Romeo and Juliet"), and approaches Jane Eyre with great maturity. I also believe Charlotte Gainsbourg has a personality not unlike that of Jane Eyre, and plays her perfectly well.

  • I finished the book about a month ago and then started to watch the movie...its such a beautiful story.

  • well here's the pre-game for the 2011 version

  • The first time I ever watched an adaptation of Jane Eyre was the 2006 version. I also saw the 1983 version as well, which was kind of bad. I now heard about a 1996 version which obviously is here, and I'm about to watch. I'm looking forward to it, but I rly hope its a good version. Anyone's opinions on this movie??

  • Dude you guys are skipping everything nd going way to fast

  • Anne Paquin! WOW!

  • Thanks alot for uploading this.I red to russian translated version of the book when i was a schoolgirl and i remember till today what an amazing, overwelmiing and loglasting impression it had over me. Very beautiful, also the seriesof if from 2006 and 1983 are very nicely done.I will be very happy to watch in this march the 2011 version .I watcht the trailer, seams very nice and very dramatic.

Again thousand thanks for your nice work.

    Greeting to you from Germany.

  • she's not a bad child I can't believe that women how mean she is. Everyone is so mean to her omg its making me angry and sad lol

  • Um, is that Mrs. Dursley playing Mrs. Reed? Talk about type-casting...

  • @turandot8289 I'm pretty sure this movie was made before Harry Potter was published… :/

  • @turandot8289 yeah but fiona shaw can pull it off though!

  • @turandot8289 That looks like the same actress who plays 'Marnie' the witch on Trueblood. Am I correct? They look very similar.

  • @WEOT62 Yes, it's the same. Which means Aunt Petunia has finally become a witch!

  • hot damn, it's sookie sookie as little jane ;)

  • Im in 7th grade still in middle school and i find that the book is so good i love it one of my all time favorites.

  • Jane's aunt Mrs. Reed had broken her promise to her late husband, Jane's uncle on her mothers side. Mr. Reed's dying wish was that Jane be loved and cared for as Mrs. Reeds own child. Read the book it's better than the movie I think.

  • Well I mean the red room is bad but knowing her it could have been something worse like a cupboard under some stairs... :}

  • @FreakaboutJChrist

Her uncle did die in that room.

  • thank you for uploading this wonderful classic for all of us to enjoy!

  • I dont like the trailer for the new movie. i think the old ones are much better.

  • I canìt stand Zeffirelli as a person but he can do his job, I have to admit that at least

  • aunt petunia is mean...

  • could you send me that movie plase?

    i love it (:

please answer me :) i am from mexico

  • thank you franco zeffirelli for this little masterpiece.. :)

  • to silverdakotaable, first the word is 'now' plays, not 'know'..and her character's name is Sookie Stackhouse, not Steakhouse...lol. All that aside, I love this book and this is one of my favorite versions of the story, I can't wait for the new release of Jane Eyre to come in 2011 and see how it compares with all the others!

  • woww. i think that children arent evil. Evil children are created. And that lady taking care of her is tryflin. I like that Jane gets the last laugh.

  • i forgot how much i loved the music in this film

  • I love in the book when they all find out mr.Brocklehurst was keeping most of the money for the school for his own family and they take his power away from him ^^

  • "Keep well and not die" i laughed there :P i just love jane eyre

  • i love this film it's such a good movie

  • so the little girl had a crush on the boy?

  • @MoThEr04LiFe No, they skipped a bunch. He was very mean to her. :( She hated him.

  • ahh i love jane eyre!!!!!

  • I say that because it's pretty accurate.

  • Is this what Wells thought of Christianity?

  • hahah her little scream! omg thats totally anna paquin ;P

  • I fell in love with Jane Eyre when I saw the 1970 version, with george C scott...this is good too of course. Nasty adults in those days with such vile notions on how to raise children.

  • I have to learn tis for drama and im doing the red room scence looking for it

  • @fieldhockeyfan100 Goodness this might be the only version that deals with the redroom. No that's not true the 1973 version has it with M. Jayston. It's not as passionate as this one. Not sure if that scenes on youtube, I own the DVD.

  • @RachelG1979 Oh thank you all look for it

  • @fieldhockeyfan100

Have you seen the 2006 BBC adaptation? That one includes the red room, though only briefly.

  • Awww don't feel bad Jane, she did the same thing to Harry. Hahaha ;)

  • @NBBisLOVE5 LOL That's funny!!! She's even had it easy compared to Rochester and his wife.

  • @NBBisLOVE5

    indeed she's such a children locker...:p

  • i love this jane eyre the most=]

i dont know why but i dont like the 1983 and 2006 jane eyre movie-.-

<3 <3 this movie is the BESTTT

  • wow i actually cant watch this...its too different

  • @MrsMattNJeffHardy Did you see the 2006 BBC miniseries? It is on youtube. I watched it and quite enjoyed it.

  • @islandsylph yes that is the better one of the two in my opinion.

i loved it :) though i want to get the dvd because there are things in the dvd that aren't on here.

  • who needs sparknotes?

  • Oh! The actress who played Anne Eliot is in this movie. :)

  • Yes, she is Sookie Stackhouse... and need I mention, Rogue in Xmen? She's the youngest to ever win an Oscars.

  • tuuuuuurds

  • this is sooooo much different from the novel.

  • @seungrioppa257 yes it is the Brocklehurst part was not the same at all

  • Comment removed

  • @ocnalbnoel como hago para entender si no esta traducida

  • Comment removed

  • if I were the ghost I'd haunt the people who made Jane's childhood miserable *looking at you Aunt Reed and John*

  • Isn't the redhead girl the same one, that played May on "Lilies"?

  • I find it funny how she can play Mrs.Reed and Petunia, and yet she is so good at playing Mrs.Croft in Persuasion! {The old one} If you haven't seen Persuasion, Mrs.Croft is one of the nicest characters ever.

  • I find it ironic that Mrs. Reed is played by the same actress as Petunia from the HP movies, considering that her role in both stories are so similar.

  • @IHugShortPeople yes...the evil aunt

  • This version of Jane Eyre is not very good, there are too many interpretations of the novel.

    2 stars.

  • Jane Eyre eng 1996 Part 2 what is the title of song that the childrens sings?at 0:38 of second part

  • Mr. Brocklehurst hypocritical christen he and his family live in luxury whilst the girls at the school he runs live in harsh conditions cold rooms, poor meals, and thin clothing, and poor health care for the children

  • I love this movie but i sincerly prefer the book (L) : )

  • I am reading this book for english and decided to watch the movie to help me along in it, could any one tell me if this movie is a good representation of the book, or is different? Thanks!

  • @LaughLiveLove4

If you want a close version, try the 1983 one. I think this one is so far from the origin that I really must warn you if you want to it to know the book.

It is not bad as a story but it is hardly an adaption. Rather a new story, just inspired from the novel.

2006 is my favourite but then the story is thinner than the 83 one.

  • @LaughLiveLove4 I personally don't really like this version. I don't like the actors portraying the characters, and the main roots of the story seemed to be pulled out. There are many versions of the story, of course reading the book is the most accurate source, but I recommend the BBC 2006 version. I find it is much more passionate and true to the story.

  • @LaughLiveLove4 The two best versions closests to the book is 1983 with Timothy Dalton and 1973 with Michael Jayston, both on DVD the Dalton one is avaible on youtube and some of Jayston are on here, some of the really good ones!

  • This head of the orphanage is not good in education. He should not ask all girls to isolate Jane Eyre. Hurting a child's feeling is not the right way to teach her.

  • I need the complete movie of Jane Eyre 1996,I can't find it here...Who can healp me with that,....

  • ok..i was going to try to watch this whole movie..but it's just bad! i hate this version..really bad acting w/ all actors..epecially mr. rochester..i like the 2006 version a lot better...

  • thank you so much for uploading this. i loved this book and thsi version i found it fantastic.

  • theres a colored one ? man we had to watch the old back and white one at school .

  • I saw this movie today, and i like this one!

  • did you know that an actual method of torture aimed at breaking someone is shutting them up in a room that is completely red? No lie! It was a technique used on prisoners in WW2.

  • @someonerandom i was looking for more about this online. I'm very curious as to why a red room would bring so much distress to someone. Is this all they did? What is the effect of that much red on a person?

  • I dont kow the specifics of it, but basically it unhinged them emotionally and mentally, though I don't know how specifically. It was something my history teacher told us once when discussing WW2 and it made me think of that scene in the book. I'll try and find out how exactly it does what it does...maybe I'll ask my IAPS teacher...

  • The red room is where her uncle died. Her uncle made his wife (the mean lady) promise to take care and be nice to Jane. Jane has a large imagination so she believes that when the dead don't get their wish fulfilled, they turn into a ghost and haunt the house. She is scared because she thinks that since the uncle died, he would haunt the room.

  • @PhailWynn The red room distressed Jane Eyre because that was the room in which her uncle had died. Her Aunt Reed was the wife of her father's brother - at least I think it was her father's brother, but it has been a while since I've read the book. It could have been her mother's brother.

  • This is the version of Jane Eyre I saw when I was reading the book in 8th grade. I love this version--so well acted and cast. And Anna Paquin was so cute at that age!

  • those people are mean to jane. i would kick their asses!

  • I saw the old one with Orson Wells 9 years ago and loved that movie.

  • This was the first version of Jane Eyre that I ever saw, and then I just fell in love and had to read the book for myself, then the 2006 version with Toby Stephens, sigh, it's all so good

  • Oh I'm reading it right now. It's such a good book! You know, the way people talked and wrote in those days is far more sophisticated and formal than the way we do now. It's kind of a shame.

  • Love Franco Z. Movies! And although this is quite different, I have to say they at least stuck with the mood.

  • Anna Paquin's face reminds me of the singer from Jamiroquai, it's kinda creepy ;)

  • I read the whole thing in 2 days and I loved and im only 11 people say the books alittle old for me but I dont care

  • That's very impressive. Keep it up! Don't let anybody tell you a book's too old for you. People have gotten so dumb these days because nobody reads anymore. Keep reading and you'll be ahead of your class in no time, if you're not already there. :)

  • You should read all the Bronte sisters. Agnes Gray by Anne Bronte Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. I think it is great you read classics. Tell anyone who disses it that you have a brain. I read them too when I was 12. And Austen. It just means you have good taste!

  • i did the same thing after i saw the first part of the 2006 adaption i fell in love and had to buy the book! i think that rochester played by toby stephans is perfect

  • this is a Bronte book though :/

  • wow im just two min into it, and it skipped like 2 chapters...such a lack of detail if ur looking to pass a test by watching this...srry

  • It gets good once Jane enters school. But hey everyone has different tastes. I'm sure there is something you like to read that I don't. Sorry it was so bad for you!

  • films are not exactly like the books... they are adaptations... loosely based around a novel.

  • nothing like the book :O

  • No you are not. This is nothing like the book. Where is Mother Bunches. EPIC FAIL for you, idiot.

  • thats aunt petunia from the harry potter movies!

  • Yep! forgotten her name but shes an amazing actress

  • No wonder she plays the role of Aunt Petunia so well...She's had training xD

  • @kels9 hey that little girl is from smallville

  • @kels9 she plays the bad guy again

  • @kels9 she always plays a b!+ch

  • @lsuchik93 Not always! She was a good character in Persuasion, as Captain Frederick Wentworth's sister. (1995)

  • lowwod looks much nicer then in the book

  • thxxx

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting the movie.

  • The little girl playng jane eyre is Anne Pacquin I believe. She know plays sookie steakhouse in True Blood (I love that show)!
