lol @ below comments.....im sure if Al heard you bad mouthing Dylan you would get a combat boot smashing you repeatedly in the jaw, how can you guys bash Dylan, lets bash 90's artists that actually suck or are overrated....like The Beatles
What kind of idiots compare this song to Dylan's and pick one or the other as being "better"??? Jourgenson made NO effort to try to "cover" Dylan's song or sound ANYTHING like Dylan. They are totally different intentionally and should never be compared side by side as though they are similar.... "Gee Dylan's version was so much better" why the hell would you ever compare an industrial rock song to a classic rock song anyways?? It was just an homage, not a COVER. Morons
@Suicidalfamily You are so right! I have the single cd version of this with a long and short version of this song by Ministry! I love it! By the way....I was 37 years old when I bought it and I'm now 50 and still listen to it!
@Suicidalfamily Yeah I went a little too far, truth be told Dylan is REALLY hard to get into and until you do it's hard to appreciate him, but when you do you can see how great he is ^^
@Suicidalfamily Bob Dylan was never all that good at singing per se... the real genius in him was his poetic lyrics, hence he is sometimes called the singing poet. Bob Dylan is one of the best lyricists of all time, really.
@Suicidalfamily I wasn't talking about Ministry, I was talking about you saying Bob Dylan "sucks balls" which is clearly not true to anyone who has actually listened to him. But to each his own, if you want to say someone sucks balls just because you dislike them, go ahead - ignorance is bliss. :)
Dylan is MUCH better. Love you ministry, but there are some bands you should never cover. Dylan being one of them. Nashville Skyline is an amazing album. Leave Dylan and Cash alone.
@Hammergods7 It was "mainstream" back in the 90's or pretty close to it. Psalm 69 went Platinum in the US. If you went to Queen St. West in Toronto back in the 1990s, it was a sea of black, fishnet, leather and giant boots, it was WONDROUS!
Then too many crap bands started filling up compilations and dance floor airwaves and many serious listeners moved on to things like Venetian Snares, and Matmos.
I NEVER want things to go mainstream, it always distorts and kills things!
Too bad ignorant people have to make stupid, uneducated commets about this vid. One of the greatest albums ever. One of the best covers ever, too, besides NIN Get Down Make Love.
I am going to play this video on valentines day and see if any real women are out there, girls who got curves, and have a bit of a wild side. For example you place GQ model next to a dirty sweaty biker, she will go for the wild side. Now I hope this theory is still correct with music, or has the population lost its primal side.
@lectrklady That might be because you dont know nothing about music, i suggest you go back to the jonas brothers channel and leave real music for thinking people. Bye
@lectrklady I do not like your comment at all, give me another version of yourself. Huh you cannot you got to be yourself, well so do they, and so is your taste in music. Come on, you change to another video or track if you do not like it. I would dare you to walk around some fans in real life and say this, they would maim you.
This was one of my most listened to songs back in high school! Life had a different feel to it then, even the air I breathed had a different more vibrant scent to it.
Tunes like this makes you feel proud of being a fan of industrial rock, man no one in any other fucking genre could do it better than Al did. The last cover Johny cash did was an industrial rock cover. Ministry is gone, but in my case, they will never cease to enchant my heart , and I will forever praise the magnificent american coldwave, the most amazing form of industrial rock, yes, better than the neue deutsche hartse.
I love how covers have a diffrent feel and mind set to them. This cover being one of my favs. Type O Negitive being another one of my fav bands has a lot of great covers.

Linguistic experts often use this as an example of when to use lay and lie. I think they're wrong; Dylan had it right. This song is totally about date rape. He's not asking her to lie on the bed, he's laying her in his big brass bed. It's all about drugging up a bitch and forcing her to stay in bed with you for sex. At least when Al sings it that's the case.
goddamm I forgot how much I like this tape (err, cd, I mean, damn I'm old). Just ordered a new one from Amazon. But really, Lava is my fav from this....."album".
I've always loved Ministry's cover of Lay Lady Lay. It sounds cool, catchy, addictive, and sometimes creepy. I wish the music video for this song would come back to youtube. I agree with the earlier posts on the bass. The bass and acoustic guitars are awesome!
i remember seeing this song in concert tripping on shrooms, all the lights on the screens morphing into weird shit, and al jourgensen with his handle bar/fu man chu moustache, sunglasses, and bull rider hat looking like a grave robber or something.
Apart from standards such as Thieves, Burning Inside, Psalm 69, and Just One Fix, I think this is my favorite Ministry tune. Fuck Bob Dylan, they totally owned this song. One of the most haunting songs ever recorded. The Dylan version has a vibe that's planets away. . .God knows what inspired them to do this with it (and thank God it did. . .)
@19FrosT83 better than the original? fuck you man, this is crap; if you ever listened to the original one, even comparing it to this shit would have been an insult for it :l
Sadly I have to agree with him. It's hard listening to Bob Dylan enough since he barely even tries to sing. This is a cover I THINK blows the original out the water, as does GNR"s cover of Knocking On Heaven's Door. Ministry really brought life to this song and made it a metal master piece!

@19FrosT83 i got 3 more cover u will maybe like more than the original: Loosing my religion - graveworm; fear of the dark - graveworm; one - crematory
@LivinWorstNightmare Yeah, sounds good. i really wish Ministry would do another synth pop album. oh, and thanks for uploading dark side of the spoon, i actually like that album.
