  • I was at this event. I was very close to being hit myself.

  • lester saved the life oif a kid by throwing him out of the path its rare to see the best of human beings...this certainly is

  • indeed that chassis was the second carolina crusher. But before it became bad.medicine this chassis had a traditional cage and gary porter never got knocked out even when going 60+ mph.Van Loo built top part of the frame and thus a death trap was.created. Thank God that by 93 he had a patrick frame and a new name

  • FUCK how I hate the music in this video

  • didnt the guy that got hit by Bad Medicine pull a kid out of the way before he go hit

  • @MrAvenger2 yes the man was like almost 80 and kid was only 6 or 9

  • first, what was a spectator doing on the arena floor? 2nd,wasn't an R.I. I. mandatory, even then? A terrible accident for certain.

    i

  • @bustyrandit Back then it was very common for people to be down were the trucks were racing while they were racing! As far as the R.I.I goes I'm not sure if at this point in time if they were mandatory or not.

  • I saw this TV special, what happened motor got stuck in wide open, the man that died was a usher and he was pushing a boy out of the way and got crush by the tire. There was also a picture someone took that was right behind the little boy and the man pushing the boy out of the way.

  • How can you get knock out after a hit like that

  • @MrAvenger2

Well what I think happened is this, I'll try and explain it as clearly as possible. The truck that wrecked in this clip, Is actually an older monster truck that used to be named Carolina Crusher in the 1980's. And back in those day's the trucks didn't have sophisticated long travel suspensions, and they were terribly rough When bouncing over car's, Much less flying over them. And the man who purchased this truck and renamed it, (Don Van Loo) made the mistake of....(Cont'd)

  • @MrAvenger2

...Buying this truck and putting a fiberglass body over a stock pickup frame, And then welding a roll cage onto it. And because of this unsafe set-up he was prone to hitting hard metal objects inside the truck when he hit car's or landed a jump. This is not the first time he was knocked out in this truck. Just 1 year before this incident he was knocked unconscious in another race, and floored the truck into a wall. Thankfully no one was hurt during that crash.

    Hope this helps.

  • @MercuryMorrison1 Heres a video of the first wreck you where talking about. Did not know this was the old Carolina Crusher. We pulled trucks indoors at the time and was around the Carolina Crusher quiet a bit.

  • @kac65 Yeah I have heard from several source's that this is the Old Carolina Crush re-bodied.

  • It had a rollcage very close to the drivers head, similar to how drag racers cages are on a top fueler. Seeing at the time neck restraint devices and things of that nature weren't used or required then, it allowed his head to hit the cage from hard hits. His first incident he was knocked silly, this one he was out cold.

  • I was at this even. I remember it quite well. I was 11 at the time and my parents took me, It was a great show until this happened. Really sad.

  • I think this was the first time anyone had ever been killed at a Monster Truck show right? I mean when this was made in 1992 Monster Trucks had actually only been racing for a few years. Before hand they just did exhibition events. I do know that it was after this incident they made the (RII) engine shut off.

  • no, some driver died first when he decided

he didn't feel like building a roll cage

    ...................... or wearing a helmet

  • this is the accident that killed a 82 year old track worker.

  • my buddy was one of the people hit by this truck. He got a monetary settlement but still horrible. Whats up Pat! (just in case you watch this video of yourself almost getting killed)

  • holy shit! I'm in the video from 00-01 secs! I remember this vividly! I was on a date with a girl I barely knew that wanted to see the show. It was about a half hour into the show or so. The guy pushed someone out of the way and the truck tire came down on him (flat) and crushed and killed him. The buffalo news had a pic of the guy with his arm up and the truck up in the air right before it came down on him. This convention center is now a casino. Dumb idea to hold this in there.

  • The driver is an idiot. If you get knocked out in a truck don't drive one! The event wasn't properly protected by the way, and the arena was to small for a monster truck show anyway. I hate this driver and his truck for doing this.

  • it seems that truck had way to many problems in the sport. the truck just wasn't made right and it always ended up broken. scary video by the way. i felt like i was there.

  • what about this picture... my friends and i have been trying to find it for years... it is burned into our memories, a man in the last moments of his life saving children...

  • I was there(10yr old)with my father a few rows up from where the truck went into the stands.Saw it turn come right at us.Few rows in front people jumped right to the seats behind them.People were flashing pictures.Niagara gasette has a photo of Mr.Gilliam right before he was hit by the truck on the front page. They said the guy driving bad medicine his foot broke, knocked loopy and he could not move it off the gas, kill switch shut off the wrong truck in the video the other truck stops suddenly.

  • I would Be happy if I never saw this video again

    Horrible

  • I was at this show and was only a kid of like 8 or 9 years old. What a way to end the night... It was a horrible venue for a monster truck show. Way too small. There was a hiatus of shows there for several years, then they came back for a weekend -- I went to that show, too. News reports after the show said the carbon monoxide levels in the arena were way beyond safe. The venue has now been transformed into a casino.

  • @chryco63 I retract my earlier statement that the venue was too small. I have since seen shows take place at even smaller venues. I've also recently found my ticket stubs for this event.

  • same thing happened a year earlier, hard landing, knocked unconcious, loses control.

  • That truck is fucking cursed, the exact same thing happened a year earlier, but no one died...

  • No, the truck wasn't cursed, the driver was a moron for not learning from being knocked out the first time. It took a bystander getting killed for him to get the idea.

  • Someone died?

  • Yes, someone died, you can't see it well at all here, but an 82-year-old man was run over by the truck and killed.

  • No wonder it is called Bad Medicine :P

  • Can someone give me a list of everey death caused by a monter truck? Please have detales!

  • just this... exept the guy who used the tire as a treadmill (what a moron) and the guy who was welding near an overfilled tire

  • I think the story about the guy welding near an overfilled tire is an "urban legend"... I've heard near-identical accounts before, only involving a tire from a tractor-trailer.

  • well its still plausible, isnt it?

  • maybe Mythbusters can solve that :P...Horrible crash, though...

  • jamie to M5! gadzookes adam!

  • yeah i can kinda see how that one worked out

  • tom meents run over someone in monster patrol.

  • really? i would like to see video of that

  • nooooo

  • For the record, any comment made by HOPECHASTITY1 about a monster truck video-like this one, or any outher video with a monter truck in it-was made by HOPECHASTITY1's little brother-me

  • Who is LESTER GILLIAM? What's with the music and the cross did he get hurt or die or somthing? If he did why was he down thare? I need details.

  • Lester Gilliam was a "guest member" of the towing crew that was working at the show. He was struck and killed by the Bad Medicine truck, as it collided with the front of the grandstands.

  • that guy probably gets unconscious just getting hit by a paper airplane

  • Not sure liquidators incident happened, but there has been more than 1 MT fatality. There is this one, there is a 48 inched tired truck called Over Excited that had lost control and plowed into a crowd killing a young boy. Tom Meents had struck and killed a person in one of his first races in Monster Patrol. Radioactive at a CFP show killed someone. Napa only injured people, and that was Dekalb IL. HBR had hurt people in an incident were he lost control in Big Boss and hit a building.

  • when did tom kill anyone

  • No , there was another accident where a little girl wandered away from her parents and I believe it was the old yellow Liquidator was being called from the pits to race and the child ran in front of him and was crushed . There was also an accident in Ohio I believe where the Napa Auto truck was doing an exhibition and the throttle hung and ran over a bunch of people . It's posted on youtube .

  • i remember seeing this on TLC or something like that.. they showed it from like 3 or 4 different angles.. but they faded everyone of them to black or paused the scene before the crush.

there is an existing recording from behind the stands where the man was crushed..

  • it was also shown on Spike TV's "World's Most Amazing Videos" regular episodes,as well as it's "Crash and Burn" special;our man(mr Gilliam)actually died under that truck's huge wheels saving two children's lives

  • This is the only recorded fatal accident in MT history.

  • Nope.

  • This is what happens when you fail to learn from your mistakes. Like Oklahoma City, in 1991.

  • Where in the world is that music from?? Also, what is Roy's Memorial?

  • That truck just had a black cloud over it all the time. Whats Van Loo doin now?

  • what did that happen all the time??

  • The truck always bounced weird and Don's head hit the rollbar all the time, he got knocked out several times, and the truck would bounce outta control often.

  • Yeah. He bought the old Carolina Crusher leaf truck and put a funny car style cage in it. Not the thing to have in a old leaf spring monster truck.

  • I remember that as a kid going to Monster Truck shows- what you said is very true.

  • What, someone got killed!?! I never heard of this before. That is unreal.

  • was this event on tv if so sombody please upload the footaga

  • this event wasn't televised

  • uh....What was that? All I saw was two trucks race across a line, then it was all brown and red.

  • This is a home video recording of the accident from an audience member... The Bad Medicine truck (in the near lane) veers across the track after the finish, avoiding the Taurus truck before crashing into the stands. Sorry for the relatively poor quality of the video.

  • Ok, thanks. Hate to sound like a prick. But, all I heard was RAHHHH, Ah Mah Gawd. Thanks for summing it up for me. Bad Medicine was right, that truck was never right.

  • i lost what happend???

  • yes he pusehed a young boy to safty killin him self the man was 82

  • that bad medicine truck was not a good truck don keeps getting knocked out in it.

    was any one hurt

scary it brings back bad memories

it looks alot like a coule of years ago when calvin carrington was killed by a tuff truck

  • i think that is the old carolina crusher frame

  • That is correct. The chassis on Bad Medicine used to run as Carolina Crusher #2.

  • he should have changed the shocks to keep from getting hurt

  • yes an elderly man of 82 pusher a boy out of the way. then he was crushed.

  • Didn't a security guard get crushed when that happened?
