My ballet teacher was 14 when he started ballet. & He's now a professional dance teacher. If you wanna start ballet now go for it. They have beginner teen classes :)

yes, you have to start no later than 10 and by 17 u should be in a ballet company but if you dont want to do it professionally its ok to start but you will prolly suck
@MsBallerinaful Er... I'm 15, not even on ballet for 4 months or something, and I'm allready on pointe. And I know that dancing on pointes is not really a sign you're good, but it's just a example that you don't have to suck when you start ballet at a later age... The only thing that kept me bothering was I had to dance twice more than the other girls, 'cause I started so late. But I wanted to do, and look where I am now...
Many professional dancers started training very young - but more and more are starting later who also have been able to dance professionally or perform. It is a very yout- oriented profession, but that does not mean that one "sucks at it" if they start later. I have worked with adults who are just starting out who progress and dance beautifully. Do not let yourself fall into limiting beliefs about yourself and others with regard to age, or anything else. It is never too learn.
at VAMPIRICROCKSTAR : I think it's like in gymnastics and lots of other sports, it depends of wh at you wanna reach. If you want to be a popular dancer forget about it, as a hobby it is a bit late but I think you can still start it. The problem is that you may don't find any group except the 6years old...I also had this problem as I started gymnastics but lucky me I learn really fast. If you're flexible and have a good body tension it's easier to start late. Have fun :)

I think it is the first track called "Plies" on Michael Roberts'
"Between the Barres" cd. That cd is a compilation of several of the
earlier albums of his music for ballet class, and you can buy it
through amazon
