  • All I can say is that if Iived in California, Gavin Newsom would have my vote. He took a brave stand here, and I applaud him for it.

  • On 12 June 1967, in the case of Loving Versus Virginia, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the laws banning interracial marriage in the United States. This was done by a court decision, based on the constitution, and not by any popular vote. Our courts exist, in large part, to protect the rights of the individual and to prevent the rights of the minority from being taken away by the majority. Loving Versus Virginia was decided by the Supreme Court "whether you like it or not."

  • so is he trying to pass a law where its legal to sleep with your sister in law??? this guy is pretty cool

  • lol liberals

  • He's not my favorite; he's kind of a corporate yuppie type, and there are other San Francisco politicians who are more progressive.

But here, he's exactly right. History will regard him kindly for being on the right side. And I voted for him specifically because of this moment.

The world is changing, bigots. Whether you like it or not.

  • Newsom is just another greedy mofo. Reaping the benefits without making any real positive changes in the city of SF. Parking has been a nightmare for years. Homelessness is among the worst in the nation, maybe the world, rent is way too high, Not to mention banging his so called friend/campaign managers wife behind his back. No matter how much grease he puts in his hair or how he tries to get the gay vote, he is a piece of shit in a three piece suit. He appeals to people with charm. Dumbass

  • @RikJamezBich

    - He created Healthy San Francisco

    - He has brought the release of green house gases in SF 7% below 1990 levels.

    - Have you ever taken a taxi cab in SF? Well, 90% of the taxis in SF are hybrid and 100% will be within the next 6 months.

    - Rent to high? SF is an expensive place to live, a mayor can't bring down your rent. If you can't afford it move to Oakland.

    - Parking a nightmare? That is why SF has amazing public transit.

    just sayin...

    just sayin...

  • @b0yvoid

Thanks for bringing a bit of truth with some facts to Newsom's record.

  • whats god think (about prop 8)? Rom 1:26-27, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

  • @mrcooldude964 Based on god's opinion on other subjects, such as slavery (see Exodus 21:20-21 for an example) and child execution, we don't care what he thinks. He's shown himself to be incompetent to make moral judgments.

  • ha ha suck it bigoted a**wipes!!

feel free to crawl back into your caves.

  • Gavin Nuisance.

  • @BILLKAULITZGIRL4EVER he kicks ass.

  • @happybirthdayamelia u mean, IS an ass.

  • @penilyn no I don't believe there is any typographical error in my statement. He kicks ass, he is aweosme, he is inspirational and he deserves the applause he is getting in this video. =]

  • I think he means "the door is shut tight, weather you like it or not!"

  • The whole nation? That's silly, gay marriage will be legal one day and it has some support. But I find it funny that people protest gays and yet nobody protests adultery and heterosexual fornication. I wonder why.

  • @Rayvyn007

Could it possibly be because Newt Gingrich has been such a strong proponent of adultery and heterosexual fornication?

  • @RCSVirginia Hahaha! What? Newt Gingrich? Why he just took a pledge to be morally pure this election. LOL

  • It doesn't matter what you do in the bedroom as long as you don't do it in the street and frighten the horses.

  • This douchebag looks like a comical representation of a typical sleazy politician. Now he wants to run for governor of California. LOL Californians do not have short term memories douchebag.

  • Heh. His comments made the passing of prop 8 inevitable.

  • This is why Gavin Newsome WON'T become the next governor.

  • ya cuz u no california is da most conservative state in the union....they wont want any liberals for governor (sarcasm)

  • yeah Californians do not have short term memories. This sleazeball will never be governor of California as long as heterosexuals remain the majority. In addition Californians large Hispanic population doesn't care much for maricones

  • God Bless Gavin Newsom!

  • resorting to name calling, how childish of you.

  • Look at the moron in the back, on the left side second row up. Clapping like a brainwashed monkey!

  • Cause he's excited he can keep fucking any other man or animal he wants!

Wouldn't you be happy if that was you!?

    LOL / jk ;) LOL!!!!

  • The guy above Newsom to his right applauding looks like a genuine moron!

  • Gavin Newsom is a cocksucker!

  • @williamsobieski86 duh he's gay lol

  • @williamsobieski86 He is engaged.. to a woman... even if not, is there a problem with that? So what if he was gay?

  • Marriage is not a fashion statement or an act of self expression. In the real world it is the basic survival unit, last time I checked a 2Y/2X or 2X/2X chromosome combination cannot pro create to save a species. They say, "But it's between two consenting adults." I say "What's next, Incest or Polygamy?" My vote is on the underdog, Beastiality.

  • Totally. Then next up NAMBLA!

  • Comment removed

  • You liberal tree hugging, criminal defending, baby aborting, socialist scum sucking gay marriage incest promoting bigot!

    :)

  • And this douchebag wants to run for governor of California. Wish him luck. The sound byte makes him look like an atypical sleazy politician that any Hollywood production would be proud of .

  • Arnold 4 more years 4 more years

  • I like Gavin. I'm from near San Francisco and support freedom for all. Half of heterosexual marriages end in divorce, while only about 10% of "fag" civil unions, but heterosexuals are still allowed to get married. I'm straight and ashamed of California.

  • State the source of your "fact". Otherwise shut your ass up son.

  • I vote no on Prop 8 Hate 8 and yes on freedom rights. it's sad that we live in a world of dip shits, for example, look at our ecomony. Do us all a favor world and grow up.

  • Who cares yes on 8 all the way fags have no right getting married the society is already fucked up as it is and lets not fuck it up more by permitting these fags to get married hahahahaha!!!!!!

  • "Fags" are people too. It says all men are equal. Marriage is a sort of speech and free speech is legal, isn't it? Separate church and state.

  • Separate Church and State? lmfao then let the Church DEAL with whether or not they want to allow faggots to get married and stop using the fucked up Govnerment to solve religious problems. Fuckin retarded hypocrite.

  • I just think civil unions should have the same benefits and rights in the eyes of the law as marriage.

  • Wow the fact you honed in on the word "faggot" instead of reading the whole thing makes you retarded. You must have failed at reading comprehension in school. You know what, I'm not even going to address you any further than this.

  • lmfao your statement has so many fallacies I won't even bother counting them.

  • haha gavin newsom is such a jackass

  • It didn't happen anyways. The militant fags are here to march all over the constitution if they have to - so as to support their odious and anti-God ways. They are anti-religion because we say that same sex "relationships" are sinful. They attack churches with spray paint because churches try to defend themselves legally from these cretins. Then liberal shitbags everywhere in government TRY to to go against the moral MAJORITY's will. The militant fags are nothing to worry about, really.

  • San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom you fag lover - this door is closed. Fuck you and your butt fucking toadies.

  • ha ha, i voted yes on 8 just because this guy said it was gonna happen whether i like it or not. dumbass

  • People say homosexual marraige is like interracial marriage: well, I can tell you right now, It's not remotely close; reason being? a black woman can have a vagina, and a white man can have a penis--and vice versa. can a black man and a white man have a baby? a white woman and a black woman?

  • death to Newsom!

  • newsom should get AIDS and die

  • lolz whether you like it or not was on a vote no on prop 8 commercial i started busting up

  • lol um...many animals enter in homosexual acts

  • We are not animals. Man didn't your parents teach you about God? wow.

  • voting yes got it abolished...u moron

...be means gay marraige is gonna happen

  • ha ha, i voted yes on 8 just because this guy said it was gonna happen whether i like it or not. dumbass

  • Say hello to the mayor who created the Prop 8 ad. Gavin, you are a moron's moron.

  • This is the future and it is now Yes on 8 won the future is now ...

  • all gays and lesbians do is complain

  • No Marriage for you FAGS!!

  • it was the future.

    feggot.

  • WE DON'T LIKE IT, GAVIN!

  • This douchebag is the reason Prop 8 passed. I was undecided on the issue until this bonafide bigot stepped on stage and said that tyrants in black robes overriding the will of the voters is fine by him.

  • Actually "tyrants in black robes overriding the will of the voters" is why black people have the same rights as everyone else. You better believe that white people(the vast majority, loldemocracy) didn't want their rights degraded by some goddamn niggers having those very same rights. Sound familiar? What was the result of Brown v. Board of Education again?

  • Sounds to me like you are a racist bigot. Ironic that you would give me a lecture on civil rights. And comparing the civil rights movement of blacks to Prop 8 is ridiculous. Gays were not brought to America in chains in the cargo holds of ships. Gays aren't defined by our constitution as 3/5ths of a person. Gays aren't required to go to seperate schools, washrooms, restaurants, and seats on a bus. And gays weren't hosed down and beaten for daring to vote. It is NOT the same thing!

  • Gays are fighting for their rights just as blacks were. I'll play your game too: Gays get beaten and killed just for existing. They didn't even have to want to vote!

Gays wanting marriage rights is exactly the same thing as blacks fighting for racial equality or woman fighting to be able to vote. I cannot comprehend how someone could delude themselves into thinking someone fighting for their rights, no matter who they are, are not comparable to someone else fighting for their rights.

  • Actually "tyrants in black robes" have done more to suppress civil rights in this country's history than promote them. Does the Dread Scott Decision ring a bell?

The US Supreme Court had also gutted the 14th amendment and the civil rights act of 1875 with shameful decisions in 1883 and 1896, allowing segregation to pollute so much of the nation.

And keep in mind that 70% of all blacks voted yes on prop 8, so clearly they can tell the difference between racism and family values.

  • "And keep in mind that 70% of all blacks voted yes on prop 8, so clearly they can tell the difference between racism and family values."

Bigotry is still bigotry. Just because the majority agrees on it doesn't mean it's not bigotry.

  • Traditional family values is NOT a form of bigotry. If legalizing same sex marriage makes such values a civil rights violation in the eyes of the law, then that justifies proposition 8.

  • Fuck gay hating bigots.

  • gaving newsom is a dumb ass -- hes the reason prop 8 passed. kudos for him

  • what a fag

  • almost as big as you are, but at least he has a life and does not have to worry about others happiness. The sad part is that almost everyone who opposes gay marriege are low life, fat, good for nothing looser or a nigger. Have not yet found any wealthy and educated white person opposing gay marriage.

  • dont be an idiot. your first sentence doesnt make sense. you are terrible at spelling. and no, not everyone who opposes gay marriage is "low life, fat, good for nothing looser or a person of color." and you morons call us the bigots? there are "wealthy and educated white" people opposed to gay marriage, the ones with values and a true sense of preserving those values.

  • (con't): many of us out there have a vision of giving our children the privilege in growing up in a society free of people with sick, deeply fermented fetishes, deeming their thoughts and cravings as natural. God did not create Adam to choose between Eve and another Adam. Nature has been clear, pull your heads out of your asses (or each other's asses for that matter).

  • As far as I'm concerned, anyone who believes in magic gardens and talking snakes is obviously insane, and not qualified to vote on the rights of the general public.

  • Haha, I bet you're a Gay that's just sore about losing; probably also sore from having your ass fucked you ferry fuck.

  • I literally lol'ed IRL at ferry fuck. "Man the harpoons, boys! We got a ferry fucker!"

  • SALT LAKE CITY - Utah's growing tourism industry and the star-studded Sundance Film Festival are being targeted for a boycott by bloggers, gay rights activists and others seeking to punish the Mormon church for its aggressive promotion of California's ban on gay marriage. It could be a heavy price to pay. Tourism brings in $6 billion a year to Utah, with world-class skiing, the spectacular red rock country and the film festival founded by Robert Redford among the state's popular tourist draws.

  • christians are going to vacation in utah instead of california. so there

  • If you want to blame someone, blame the Gay marriage poster child San Fransisco Mayer Gavin Newsom, who single-handily gave the victory to prop 8 supporters on a silver platter by running his mouth. The often aired "whether you like it or not" TV add is what sold California and the USA 37+ states already have a constitutional amendment against gay marriage. To the rest of the US, this is not a big deal; in the eyes of the everyday non-progressive American, Cali is now just like most of the USA.

  • Thanks for the win Gav.

    what a tool

  • this door is close now whether you like it or not

  • I dont like it, but for you, probably this is the most happiest time in your life. If a ban on someone's happines makes you feel good than you must have a very miserable life.

  • Newsome is the Joel Osteen of debased secular humanism.

  • Not to peddle every decision stupid voters make? Dumb fuck, this country is by the people and for the people and they have spoken...So you are saying that three maybe four people (judges) have the right and knowledge to over turn the vote of over 1 million voters? You are a stupid mother fucker...And by the way, no gay fuckers rights have been constituionally violated. Two people other than a man and women to marry were never constitutional rights.

  • Well, you won! So here is what u will get: my partner makes over 300000/ year, but I am a stay at home mom on welfare and onfoodstamps. Because you all think that putting a ban is so important she will rent her house to us as section 8 housing paid by the gvt. Also, I am carrying huge debt, that some has to pay off because I will not. (and my partner is not obligated as we are not married) Meanwhile I will drive her bmw, fly to Europe every other months and live better than you ever will.

  • You must be very proud of yourself! Way to be a dirtbag! By the way, I hope you didn't vote for Obama. Under his new tax code your "partner" is going to get the shit taxed out of their salary.hahahahha

  • Famous last words chump. Prop. 8 passed.

  • Gavin, whether you like it or not... here is what is coming to you.

"Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid in California" -- California Constitution 2008.

"Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid in the United States" -- US Constitution 2012.

"Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid in the world" -- United Nations 2030.

  • 0:15

  • :15 best part LAWL

  • ROTFL! What an IDIOT he is!

  • HAHA, ibet he wishes he didnt say that :P

  • HAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.......HAAAA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.............HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA! Whether you like it or not.....Thats a good one!

  • Yup. Like it or not, Gavin. California has spoken. It's okay Gavin. You still have the right to bend over for any guy (or guys) you want.

  • You guys just give it a while. My generation will overtake the bigots who die off, and then gays will finally be treated like real tax-paying citizens.

Though honestly, we should get rid of marriage entirely. Marriage is a religious thing that has no place with a non-religious government. Civil Unions for all!

  • Won't most of your gay generation die off from aids? Probably so...

  • Hetero people aren't immune to AIDS, but that's besides the point. I certainly hope that decent-minded folk would carry the non-bigoted torch even if all this generation of gays died off. Shit, isn't them dying from AIDS enough? Why make them suffer even more by taking away their rights? Some people are just sadistic and it's fucking sickening.

  • Oh, Gavin...

Whether you like it or not ... gay marriage has been banned.

  • LMFAO "whether we like it or not"...yeah, right. California has spoken: a marriage is between a MAN and a WOMAN.

  • Hey NeutralVista, in case you haven't heard.... you lost! Arizona, Arkansas, and Florida also voted to ban gay marriage. Like your fearless leader said, "By the way, as California goes... so does the rest of the nation." "like it or not" .... the states hae spoken: no on gay marriages. In case you're wondering, myself and my family were within seconds of voting NO on this matter. But it's funny what happens when people feel as if politians and people "push" their views on others."LIKE IT OR NOT"

  • Well, Mayor Dumb Fuck, go ahead and make my day, marry some homosexuals now...you'd look good in prison stripes...maybe big Bubba will marry you!!!

  • I cannot get over how bigoted some people are. Is this what the Bible teaches? Honestly?

  • You people saying that your born gay are ridiculous. Prove it?!?! You people saying it's a choice, are equally ridiculous... Prove it?!?! None of you have scientific factual data to prove in favor of either argument. Whether you believe it's born with it or choice. It is based off of nothing more than your opinion and whatever your belief system your getting your opinion from....

  • ask 100 gay people if they believe they were born gay. You would be hard pressed to find 1 who would say he/she chose to be gay.

  • Asking proves nothing in this context.. Find me actual real scientific data that proves Homosexuality is in the genetic make-up, in the genes, DNA, therefore the individual has no choice. I now believe it's ultimately a choice. And I did ask a friend of mine that is gay, he feels it's both born with and choice.. Not sure how you reconcile the 2, but he does..

  • who really cares? Its no business is it of mine what a man and his boyfriend want to do and why they want to do it.

  • what do you mean down with this and down with that, shut ur mouth and tke it up the ass like you like to do....

  • LOL that Guy Is Awesome.

  • NOTHING CAN STOP OUR COUNTRY'S VICTORIOUS MARCH

    Hail Newsom!

    DOWN WITH CHRISTIAN TYRANNY

    DOWN WITH BIBLICAL AUTHORITY

    DOWN WITH THE CHRISTIAN RELIGION

    DOWN WITH CHRISTIANITY

    DOWN WITH CHRISTIANITY

  • Article ??: This state shall not recognize any vote made by a person deemed "conservative" or suspected of voting on behalf of any religious belief.

    Article ??:

No new church buildings may be constructed in this state.

    Article ??:

The state of California no longer recognizes any religion

  • read above: The difference between marriage and civil union has nothing to do with loving each other; it has to do with joint filing of taxes.

  • HURRAH

  • Let's make a proposition 35, shall we? Let's propose a constitutional amendment! NO! LET'S PROPOSE 3.

Article ??: This state shall not recognize any vote made by a person deemed "conservative" or suspected of voting on behalf of any religious belief.

  • Kishona: Furthermore, California Education Code 51933 requires teaching respecting marriage and the importance thereof. Some teachers will naturally embellish it, as each has their own interpretations of what is meant by "required teaching."

  • anyone know of a better clip with decent audio? My grandma can't hear it ... and yep, she's gaaayyyy!

  • Is this the devil incarnate?

  • DOWN WITH CHRISTIAN TYRANNY

  • This man is a true hero for speaking this way. You can not STOP same-sex marriage. You may delay it with your discriminatory constitutional amendments, but you CAN NOT STOP it. Homosexuality is here, it will stay here and none of this whining about tradition will make it go away.

  • Yes. You can take away our freedoms, but you can NEVER silence our voices!

  • NO ON 8!!! Or better yet, no marriage for any. But definitely EQUALITY!

  • Children will not be taught gay marriage in school. The CA school board confirmed this.

  • That guy is an IDIOT!!!

Why is it that large cities in CA all have morons for mayors? Los Angeles has their own moron... Antonio Villaraigosa... what a clown! Gavin Newsom wants to change the definition of my marriage. Villaraigosa wants more illegals in the state. Argh! Poor California.

  • Future First! Vote Pro-Rights! Vote YES on 8!

  • Furthermore, it's mandated in the Education Code, section 51890, that children be taught about marriage. Redefining marriage would, indeed, put same-sex marriage as a part of school curriculum, by that very same clause.

  • But why, why I ask you, would it be so bad? What if the child learns their entire life that homosexuality is wrong, and turn out to be gay when they're older? Being gay is scientifically proven to be natural, but they'll think they're demented, and become depressed, or even worse, suicidal. Teaching against a certain group of people is just wrong. Your Yes on 8 protesting is the same as if someone where standing on the side of the road, holding signs against Black people or Buddhists.

  • Ahhh damnit i hate this speech, it does the opposite of what it should do as you can hear from all the Yes on 8 ads lately -_- Damnit Gavin you idiot..

  • Scary Video, Scary Mayor,

    Sad Video, Sad Mayor

Time to slam this door in his face.

    Vote yes prop 8

  • Gay people are still people, and I think that they should be given the same rights, they are still human beings.

  • To gossipgirlfan4567: In the passing of Proposition 8, no one will lose rights whatsoever. Civil unions give full benefits to homosexual couples. The question is not about civil rights, because none are being lost through Proposition 8.

  • Actually,

    they are.

A civil union is NOT a marriage.

    It has limited rights,

thus continuing to make gays second class citizens.

  • Kishona: Not a single right is excluded from civil unions that is granted to traditional marriage couples, as per California Family Code 297.5. Civil union is the exact equivalent of marriage in civil rights. Gays are not second class citizens.

  • That sounds a lot like "separate, but equal"

    Interesting...

  • If they aren't, then why can't you call it marriage? It seems like we're still getting excluded something, wouldn't you say? How is gays getting "married" hurting you? It isn't. And prop 8 passing has nothing to do with education. You supporters even say yourself that it's just a few simple words, where does it say anything about education? I don't even think they teach about any type of marriage in schools, let alone gay ones. UGH. >.>
  • Kishona: Because we have to understand that we're not just adding in a loophole to let gays into marriage. It's not a simple change that's attempting to be made. We're changing the very definition -- or the existence and concept -- of something that society has always depended on, which is marriage.

Once redefined, marriage will be taught, homosexual and traditional, in classrooms to children as young as 5 years old. This is a moral issue that parents have the right to teach to their children.

  • Marriage is a piece of paper. A contract, if you will, between TWO PEOPLE who want to just, share all their possessions. So, in essence, it has nothing to do with love, or commitment. Many so called "marriages" that you're working so hard to protect are open, or failing. Society depends on marriage? What about your %50 percent divorce rate? I don't think you people are too worried about keeping marriage "sacred". Teach your kids what you want, schools don't get into that subject.

  • Kishona: The institution itself is of incredible value, but people are not perfect. Sometimes bad people abuse good things. I can't answer for everyone, but I know that marriage has to be preserved.

If there were a way to outlaw divorce without causing incredible societal backlashes, I'd definitely be for it. Unfortunately, banning divorce is not an option.

  • Well, I see a flaw in your defense. You're saying they can't change the definition of marriage, but marriage has actually been changed many a time before you got afraid the gays. Marriage was changed so Blacks could marry Whites, marriage was changed so women had rights, marriage was changed so divorce could be let in. Massachusetts has had gay marriage for years, nothing bad happened. I don't know if this is a religious thing for you, but really. If it isn't physically hurting you, leave it be.

  • Kishona: That was not redefining marriage, that was changing the limits that could be put on marriage, without changing its nature. Since the beginning of the country, marriage has always entailed union between man and woman, which is a characteristic that has never changed.

The issue is about the next generation. Children will be taught in schools that same-sex marriage is "just as good" (or the same) as traditional marriage, which will damage their perception on society and male-female roles.

  • So, now you're saying that male-female roles should be kept traditional as well? What, the man goes every day and does all the work, while the woman stays at home with their 2.5 kids and stays in the kitchen? There's nothing wrong with tweaking male-female roles, my friend. Women's rights, okay. Before, male-female roles would be like men are dominant, and women can't vote, that sort of thing. Children should have freedom to grow up with their own thoughts and feelings.

  • Kishona: The gay gene is not proven. It's a logical fallacy to compare being black (something that cannot be changed) to a behavior (homosexual behavior, for example).

We can't trust society to educate children. We already see that society is corrupt, and giving our children to it to become educated by it would be requiring them to start life on the wrong foot. Children should be educated by their parents, who have the responsibility for their care, at least until adulthood (age 18).

  • Actually, being gay is something proven not to be a choice. When did you choose to be straight? And yes, children should be educated by their parents. That's why schools DON'T TEACH ABOUT MARRIAGE. Teach your kids all your intolerant ways, that's fine, but quit trying to use our schools for your argument. I remember clearly my elementary school days, and they didn't even teach me about straight marriage, let alone anything else. And I saw your recent video, comparing gay rights to Nazi Germany.

  • Kishona: Being that homosexuality is the deviation from heterosexuality, there is no choice involved in being heterosexual, since it's the natural state; to turn away from the natural state is the choice; to not act upon the natural state is to make no choice.

Furthermore, this isn't speaking about choice like turning on a car is a choice. The termination of homosexual activity isn't something that's done like flipping a light switch. Like all major psychological processes, it takes time.

  • Exactly my point, sir. It isn't someone makes on a whim. Either if they're born that way, or they're conditioned that way, for whatever reason, it really isn't their fault who they fall in love with. You always try to stress the argument is protecting marriage and children, but I see through you all. You're mostly being prejudiced, who have based our governing laws around your anti-gay religious text. You know they won't let hate speech on TV, so you mask your discomfort with lies about kids.

  • Kishona: The fact is that homosexuality can be changed. All major changes in human psychology can be reversed, and homosexuality is a behavior; hence, it can be changed.

One issue is the detrimental psychological effects that ensue from teaching that "men can marry men with the same validity that men marry women," not about religious texts that talk about men lying with men.

Redefining of marriage, to the possible detriment of the future generation, is not necessary for a behavioral minority.

  • should we limit the rights of some people to avoid "detrimental psychological effects" for others? I am in no way harmed if gay folks can get married, my psychology will be just fine.

  • jeffmagic32: You're an adult (I assume). You're generally done with your process of forming perceptions about yourself and society. Children do not have that advantage, still being at that stage where they form perceptions, and what we teach them at a young age will stay with them for a very long time.

Furthermore, I see no other rights that can be detrimental to other peoples' psychological well-being, to answer your question.

  • If I am offended by your speech, then your right to free speech is offensive to me. So, I am detrimentally effected by your right. You should still have it. Gay people being married next door to a kid will have no effects on him, except to make him more tolerant of a life that causes him no problems at all.

  • jeffmagic32: You are not affected by hateful speech, having already formed a solid perception of yourself. Others' offensive comments shouldn't damage your self-esteem, since you're an adult and already know what you are. However, a child's psychological foundation is still weak.

Furthermore, this isn't about offensive speech. This is about distorting the internal image that a child has of the differences of male and female, which are essential to a child's identity. Very different.

  • So your theory is by allowing gay people to marry each other, children everywhere will be incapable of distinguishing a man from a woman? Should we lie to them and tell them there is no such thing as gay people? That would keep them nice and ignorant.

  • jeffmagic32: Is it common to exaggerate other peoples' words to the extreme?

I stated that children will be confused and will have their perception-forming process damaged by equating men to women. The logic is inherent; men and women are different, and the difference between the two sexes gives each their own value and natural qualities.

Homosexuals can exist, and I have stated nothing against the existence of homosexuals. Marriage need not be redefined for homosexual activity.

  • so a married gay couple down the block will damage the perception forming processes of children nearby? I don't see that as reality. People are born gay or straight, a contradictory couple nearby will not change their sexuality, nor will it cause any damage to their brains.

  • jeffmagic32: I don't understand why you intend to bring out examples like "gay couples living down the block" when we're talking about children being told about same-sex marriage in schools. The two have nothing to do with one another.

People are not born gay. The gay gene is not proven.

  • People are most certainly born gay. Do you know any gay people? Ask them if it is a choice or not. As far as I know there is no specific language in Prop 8 on teaching kids about gay marriage (any more than they do already), but it may leave the schools open to such teaching. So, worst case scenario your child learns the truth that there are gay people and they sometimes live together, and (the horror!) even get married.

  • jeffmagic32: If there is no gay gene, then it's not possible to be born gay without choice. That doesn't mean it's a choice in the sense of flipping a light switch is a choice. Like all major psychological changes, it takes time, but it can happen.

No one has a problem with gay people living together. The civil union exists. The problem is with redefining the concept of marriage.

  • Let me guess, you are not in the field of genetics or brain chemistry? It is you who seem to have a problem with gay marriage, and you are using absurdly strained legal/moral/scientific reasoning to justify a ban on something that you find offensive, but which any reasonable person would conclude has absolutely nothing to do with you or your kids.

  • jeffmagic32: Tell me when the gay gene was proven, or by who.

If you don't understand how human processes change over time in reaction to stimuli and internal beliefs, you have no right whatsoever to comment on other peoples' understanding of brain chemistry.

  • one can be born gay without there being such a thing as a "gay gene". If you believe God made all people, then he made a whole lot of them gay.

  • jeffmagic32: Yes, it's clear that some people are gay from a young age (it's impossible to speculate that a child is gay from birth, since there is no gay gene and a child has no sex drive at 1 day). The fact is that it can be reversed. It's a behavior. It's not reversed in one day or by saying "I think I'll decide X today" and having it suddenly happen. Deep and long-lasting psychological changes require more effort and time, later in life, to uproot.

  • Being gay is far harder than being straight. Yes, people can reverse this gay behavior, but only when they deny their true feelings and live a lie. But more to the point, laws are about individual rights. Gay people getting married has very very little to do with anybody but the people getting married. Teach your kids what you want, and respect the rights of others.

  • jeffmagic32: Respecting rights includes my right to vote (which was taken away) and my right to raise my children how I judge best (which may be taken away). This is no civil rights movement at work if it takes rights from others.

The fact that homosexuality is not genetic means that it is not permanent; it can be changed, or reverted, to the natural state. Returning to the natural state is not to live a lie. It's a process, yes, and it takes time, but it's not betraying self.

  • No rights are being taken away from you - except your right to limit the rights of gay people to get married like everyone else. Being straight is not the natural state for gay people. Being gay is their natural state. Their "choice" to be gay has nothing to do with you anyway.

  • i think you'r missing the point.

BEING GAY IS NOT NATURAL OR NORMAL IN ANY WAY!

  • Neither are taxes, but op, we have to do them anyway. Name one creature besides humans that have to do taxes.
