Venom had good conception of heavy music, but technically it was realised by bands like Cannibal corpse, Nargaroth, Death, Vital Remains, Slayer, and other giants of technical playing. it's funny, Slayer was often referred to as America's "lesser" Venom. My god they were right. Venom started extreme metal, Thrash, Death, and directly inspired Black Metal. Metallica actually opened for them on their Black Metal Tour in '83. I'd credit Metallica owing some of their fame to Venom

Venom were Slayer's idols and role-band when they started (and even Metallica's). Venom started a whole new genre, yet back in their homeland they were being given a bad reputation by some metal zines. They didn't deserve that. They should be hailed as pioneers of thrash metal... Slayer, Metallica and all others followed behind, Venom lead the pack... and to this day their first few albums are still regarded as of the best thrash albums ever. Thank you Venom

Venom were pioneers I agree, in playing fast and heavy and using satanic imagery. But to be honest, they are not a very technical band and neither do they sound good playing their instruments.

Venom are to thrash metal, what Sex Pistols were to punk, they didnt contribute much musically, they mostly brought the attitude and imagery.

Being a major early Venom fan, and Black Metal junkie, I say none ever was more original than Venom.

Further: they (well, Conrad Lant to be correct) 'invented' the so called 'Bulldozer Bass' by plugging a borrowed bas guitar into a Marshal amp, and using a few pedals on that thing.

It created a heavy, evil-sounding deep bass, wich was unheared before...

Nowadays there's hardly or even NO band (metal) that's not using this form of bass....

@wales2k4eva: Well, try your PC. Make sure you got a GOOD microphone, set up yer PC, and voila... you got a recording, in whatever format you prefer. There's a bunch of recording tools out there on the web. Or use an old cassette recorder/band recorder. Note: the microphone is the most important part: a cheap one records badly.
