I'm 43 years old and originally from The Bronx, so I remember the first wave of Kung-fu films to hit the theaters in the early 70's. Trust me. There is no tangible connection between Hip Hop and Kung Fu flicks.

@Disposition446 How is it a completely opposite of hip hop? Hip Hop is a totally diverse form of music. How can anything be the complete opposite of what if represents, When you can go out and find any kind of Hip Hop? & Pray tell what does this movie represent except great storytelling and great performances.

And on a finally note I don't listen to Commercial Hip Hop but I know it isn't guilty of selling anything that you wouldn't find on the billboard top 40 if Hip Hop is gone

- Old school kung fu flicks, IMO, have never represented hip hop or vice versa.

The truth is, these movies were a mainstay in urban communities from the mid-to-late 70's into the mid 80's. Urban kids loved these movies, and they loved hip hop. Outside of Wu Tang, who took their love of the genre and mixed it with their brand of hip hop...there is no real connection other than a shared love.
