  • 2:50 TRON Tribute? The music in this game is sick!

  • The sounds are much alike Midnight resistance and Two Crude Dudes. Both games with great music too.

  • never knew about this game, the music is amazing

  • The SNES chip sound is good for guitar. Just listen music of Battlemaniacs...

But, it's true that Genesis is more for hardcore/techno music. SNES is better at "orchestral" sound.

  • THANK UUU FOR POSTING!!!! IMA HARDCORE SEGA AND DEVILISH FAN!!!!

  • @nintygaming

Name one snes game that sounds like streets of rage 2 or musha, I can wait.

Each chip had a set of genres it was good at.

SPC700: Orchestral, Folk, can do metal somewhat well.

    YM2612: Metal, Techno, Jazz

  • @nintygaming You always have to remember, that the Snes is 2 years newer than The Genesis. The Genesis did a damn good job in competing (And in my mind, winning) against the Snes. the snes may sound more realistic, but that doesn't automaticly make it "Better".

  • @nintygaming Actually Thunder Force IV/Lightening Force on Genesis metal tracks totally destroy any metal tracks on SNES sorry to say. :)

  • @nintygaming uh what about lightning force.....for genesis

  • @nintygaming Well if were just going to pick favorites and bash the other, the Genesis was fantastic and making great upbeat themes that made you wanna dance. The Snes was ALWAYS focused on being "Real". that meant, the melodies were sucky, slow, and boring, but sounded Technically good. So The Snes FAILS to me and many many other people.

  • @nintygaming It better be superior it came out two years after the Genny. Nintendo sat down, looked at Sega's system and said ok how can we make ours better! Of course they didn't think having a fast cpu was an issue so they cheaped out on that!

  • Nice intro music

  • 2:50 I didn't even know that kind of sound was possible on the Genesis. Amazing!

  • Okay - this takes the cake as to best FM music i've ever heard - tied with streets of rage 3 ( which is a technicality because the synth programming in SOR3 is really intense.. but the music itself is allright. )

  • jeez.. Sakimoto sure knows how to make the genny sound great. All his stuff (Gauntlet 4, Midnight Resistance...etc) sound great!

  • what are some those 'etc' games? i'd like to hear them.

I'm amazed at the string/voice sounds in the track, how the hell do you get that out of FM..

For the record, i program synthesizers and know the challenge.

  • He did work on Verytex, Captain America and the Avengers, Master of Monsters and Two Crude Dudes

  • thanks buddy.

I happen to love Verytex muzak too, go figure.

  • the guy is a genius.genesis music is among the best, crank up batman and robin,it makes medern music sound like pussy serious.

  • lol.. i love FM but just cannot handle Batman / Robin.. it is just too caustic.

  • whats caustic?.i like batman and robin but it still as some glassy sound in it's music.altought yesper kyd is a genius he also did a soccer game and red zone wich both sound awesome.

  • Caustic means corrosive, but i'm using the word to describe something that is grating or very unpleasant. Glassy is a nice way of putting it, hehe.

Yesper is good, he just should have taken advantage of the PCM snd PSG sounds. FM can't do everything! Streets of Rage is a perfect example of using all of Sega Genesis' sound hardware to the max!

  • the dac you mean? that the only digital channel i know.psg indeed.streets of rage and even some other games used the sample channel for let's say drum or light guitar parts.comix zone streets of rage for the beach level etc.just one looped instrument gives a bt more depth to it.some composers used gems to create samples EA also used sampled instruments in some games.fifa and madden skitching etc.

  • Never heard of the game, but I'm impressed by it's unique take on the Breakout style of gameplay. Nice music, too.

  • Megadrive games generally had better music than the snes. This game is a perfect example, and yes I had both consoles back in the day.

  • Why hasn't this music been recorded by an orchestra? Used in movies? It's a waste.

  • Starting at 4:53 that's the best music track ever recorded for a 16bit game.

  • I disagree, The opening from Ogre Battle (which hitoshi composed as well) for the SNES is superior to that theme. However The soundtrack for this game is phenominal.

  • @RetroVGamer

    agreed godly ain't it?.

  • At 2:51 it sounds like TRON

  • I believe ( possibly wrongly ) that this guy also composed the music for Gauntlet 4...which would explain why this stuff sounds great.

  • Another great game that failed to get a European release, thankfully i managed to get a Japanese copy back in the day. And yes, the music is excellent

  • Man this is so awesome! I really appreciate what you done and the hard work it took to dig up those vintage games. I hope to hear more music from hitoshi sakimoto because I'm just one of his biggest fans. If you get a chance, could you make a column for hitoshi sakimoto? Thanks!

  • This game is worth owning just for it's fantastic music which in my opinion is up there with the best on the Mega Drive/Genesis.

  • I knew there were a few playformer style pinball games for the genesis, but was unaware there was a breakout style platformer. I would've played the hell out o f this back in the day if I knew about it :/
