  • Marius is really ugly in this one.

  • Wasnt she suppose to be dressed as a man?

  • is eponine's voice dubbed??

  • Huh? They got it all wrong! The saddest scene for me in the whole of Les Mis and they got it completly wrong in so many ways. Hmph, I hate Marius. He didn't even notice SHE'D JUST DIED FOR HIM. God.

  • @PonineTeazerBlaze yeah in the musical Marius is really nice to Eponine talking about "words of love" and stuff. In the book though it's a lot more like this, so I don't think they ruined it. It's just more-- depressing.

  • What the hell is the matter with my favorite character? Well on the other hand, at least Eponine was done well.... I like this movie and I feel like it's dramatic in the right places. Even though it may not be so accurate.... But still, it's epic and that's why I love it. The only version I love better is the 1934

  • OMG the wors version of les Miserables ever ! And I'm french ! ^^

  • @Clemi12 No it's not! The Liam Neeson version already suceeded with that

  • why the heck is it in a different language?

  • @idiotsRus123123 Les Miserables is a french novel. So, the language, naturally, would be in french.

  • I can't speak French, but even I can tell she's dying. Why the heck doesn't he get a DOCTOR, god dang it?!?!

  • @lesmeslover95 In the novel it is explained that Marius wants to take her to a doctor because he thinks that she's only been shot in the hand, when in fact the bullet passed through her hand AND through her back, and she tells him not to take her to the doctors. She's going to die anyway. She dies saving Marius from being shot, only because she wants to die first. It's still her intention for Marius to die at the barricade, just die after her. I don't feel sorry for her. It's her own fault.

  • I don't speak French...but...I may or may not be crying right now...

  • can somebody please upload the entire miniseries?

  • Uh, 'Ponine is meant to be dressed as a boy. This isn't the movie is it? BECAUSE THATS WRONG!

  • WHY IN THE WORLD DOESN'T MARIUS GET A DOCTOR

  • marius est laid, là je vois pas pk elle veut mourrir pour lui

  • No song? Too bad... that's what makes me cry... this is just sad. I don't even understand. Got to love Les Miserables!

  • That's why I've never pictured Eponine ugly, I always pictured her pretty, not just because of her insight but also for her looks, even in rags , bare feet and unhealthy.

Because she was kinda when she grew up as a little lady , so it won't just vanish out of some years of poverty ( well even long years of poverty). Even if of course, it ravages physical appearance pretty much, I mean they were still humans ( but the author somehow described them as monstruous creatures from hell.

  • @fdgesw Yes it would. According to Victor Hugo, she lost teeth and turned very thin. Which is ugly.

  • I think first beauty is subjective, someone may be ugly for one pers & gorgeous for sn else. Second , I don't think it's sthg that can be measured with the amount of money you have, even if yeah,if you have means you'll buy plenty of things to look more attractive, but if there's beauty it won't die out because of rags, V.Hugo didn't think the same, for him Cosette in poverty were an ugly creature just because she turned out poor and exausted, but it is to emphasize poverty and its downsides.

  • does anyone know where i can buy this? i live in America so I'd need it to be a region 1 disc.

  • my friend is doing Les Miserable and i think that she's Eponine.. That'll be nice to see my best friend get shot.

  • was this originally in french?

  • @IfNerdsCouldFly Yep... the book was. So was the first 'play' production of it...

  • tbh i found tht quite disturbing! :|

  • Where was she shot?

  • i love les miserables...i don't like the englis version but i love this..

  • Translation: Eponine tells Marius that she threw herself in front of a gun to save him. Then she tells him that her father did not try to save his father but was trying to steal his watch cause he thought he was dead. And finishes by telling him of her lie and that Cosette has never left Paris. She tells Marius that she loves him and asks him to kiss her on the forehead after she dies.

  • Ok.....This Marius is not attractive. At all. Ugh. Why do Cosette and Eponine like him?

    Enjolras, FTW.

  • It's a matter of tastes. I find him attractive, for istance.

  • Why?

Why do attractive men always have to be the ones the majority adores?

    this romance is purer...

  • r u kidding, hes hot. hes fuking smoking hot. something wrong with you

  • She didn't murder herself she was shot. And wasn't about to murder Marius either, she was delivering a letter to him from Cosette and he didn't even know about her feelings for him.

  • Does anyone know where I can find the full movie with english subs?!

  • This scene is beautiful...I mean aesthetically. I can't understand French, unfortunately. The music, Eponine's pretty face (btw, why is she pretty here?), her sad situation...

dumb comment: Eponine looks like she's having trouble staying on the bed at 1:52

  • Eponine is pretty in this video because that isthe way she is described the book. The first time Marius sees her she is described as "dirty with holes in her clothes and no shoes and hay in her hair.... but still beautiful."

  • @tamarexxe Eponine was supposed to be ugly. Hugo had a completly different meaning when he said that. She had to be ugly to properly juxtapose Cosette and what happened to each of them through the ages. Cosette got pretty and rich, Eponine got ugly and poor. Hugo meant that she was beautiful because of her love for Marius and that made her beautiful in God's eyes. Remember from the musical "To love another person is the see the face of God." Eponine was hideous. It's how she was described.

  • @gerardwayslover666 No, the novel says that eventhrough her rags she was beautiful and Marius thought it was sad that her beauty couldn't be seen more because of her poverty.

  • @chickscheer I'm sure your looking at the quote "what was tragic about the girl was that she was not born ugly". Sure Eponine obviously would have been pretty if she was not poor. But she is poor. She isn't pretty. She is only beautiful in her love for Marius as shown by "she appeared at once more impoverished and more attractive... such is the miracle of youth". Yes, it is said that she is attractive but only because of her youth and her innocence in her love for Marius.

  • @chickscheer She is ugly and skinny and has few teeth and a voice like a man. She is not beautiful and Marius obviously does not think that she is as he proves by running off with Cosette. The beauty came from her innocent love of Marius even though she isn't an innocent person. It was probably one of the only pure things she had. That's what he means by the miracle of youth. Even youth who are impoverished, hideous and not innocent can be innocent in their love, like Eponine is.

  • @gerardwayslover666 And with all of this, she was beautiful. What a star, O youth!

page 874 the unabridged paper back version

but if your eponine is ugly, then keep her ugly. one of the wonderful things about books, and les mis particularly, is the way YOU intepret it and what it means to YOU

  • how sad!!!!!!!!!!!

  • mmm, i do not like this adaptation very much, i have heard that the 1982 tv adaptation is the closest one to the book that has ever been made, but i have not been able to find it, this book is excellent, it is one of my very favourites books of all times so its kinda sad to see the story distorted like they do in the adaptations, but i must say that this eponine is too well dressed compared to the one the book describes

  • I just can't understand why so many people hate this movie, and especially this scene. I like the musical version too, but this movie was closer to book, and it should be a good thing (though some heretics say otherwise). The movie is not great, but it's ok, and Eponine is a perfect character for Asia Argento (a gross, creepy woman XD).

  • eponine is so pretty!

  • God, could Marius be any more of an asshole??? Poor Eponine!

  • could u put sub titles up i can understand a bit but not alot and who is Marius talking to (the man in gery colour)

  • I think that's supposed to be Enjolras...

  • Ils ne chantent pas >=(

    Perte de temps!

  • This movie with Depardieu is wondeful! You can find it on 4 DVD. As I am french, here is the translation of the dialogue between Marius and Eponine: (This part is very sad)

  • -Cosette?

-Cosette yes... you have foud me really ugly right?

    -But no, no...

    - Oh yes, I know that, besides of her, I was ugly. But perhaps, if she did not exisut, you would had looked at me... this, I think I would never know... Now you look at me, here we are, you look at me and I know you do because I am dying.

  • - Eponine, I made you sad, I apologize

-Oooh, I know you did nothing you ignore nastiness

    - If only you know how I am nasty, me All Tenardiers are bad

    ()

Its like me, when I said Cosette ran away, that was untrue, she is still there, in the house with big garden, she gave me letter for you, but I did not tell you. I wanted to avoid you to see her, and punish you.

  • Cosette still there!waiting for me! Thanks Eponine

No please, wait, I need you, wait till I go, it wont be long.

    Yes

I swear, I dont know what I want harder, you happy, you sad.

Dont worry for me, turn toward god now

But it is you, the one I love Marius, promise me something When I will be gone promise me, you will give me a kiss on my front

  • This movie with Depardieu is wondeful! You can find it on 4 DVD. As I am french, here is the translation of the dialogue between Marius and Eponine: (This extract is very sad)

  • Subtitles , SUBTITLES DAMMIT!!

  • yes

  • Me, I prefer Javert with me ! lol !

  • marius is a dick. fuck him.

  • Nooo!!!!! This scene allways makes me cry, and makes me ANGRY!!!!!!!! Marius Pontmercy you motherfucker!!!!!!!! He should have stayed with Eponine, did you notice that when she tells him that Cossette is still at her house he is just ready to fly and leave the unhappy girl dying alone??? MARIUS IS AN ASSHOLE

  • I agree with you partly... I feel sorry 4 Eponine bt i prefer pairing Marius & Cosette. In Ep's defence, I dont like how Eponine is portrayed in this series: the script makes her pure evil! Musical's better cos she has more morals and depth: EPONINE was the 1 who prevented her father from harming Valjean (NOT Marius) & this scene cuts her out completely! I think we'd best read the novel 2 find out what exactly happened - after all, everything else is just an adaptation! Have you read the book?

  • Yes I did, but in the book they mention her just a few times. In this series I don´t think she´s evil, when she carries Marius to Cosette`s house for the first time she does it under one condition, she asks him to make love to her, but when they´re at Cosette`s house she refuses the price because she loves him! That can´t be evil. I think that she has learned that kind of life from her parents, yet sometimes in the series we can see how she really is.

  • i agree the musical is much better... i think 'a little fall of rain' is really strong... i think that marius and cosette should be together, thats what makes eponine eponine... her cahracter is there for a reason. i always like her tho, but i dont like her with marius...

  • In the book he is an even bigger asshole because when she was dying he didn't at all. And he only stayed with her because she practically begged him to. He was pretty much just waiting for her to die so he could read the letter from Cosette.

  • Well, if you obtained an inane little stalker, who go as far to murder her self, and you just because she couldn't have you, what would you do? Be all smoochy, or be freaked out?

  • poor eponine !

    D<

  • Is that Balki??

  • Did this same cast redo it in English? Cause Eponine's death is cut out in the English version of this movie, and it's the same voices and actors. So did they completely re-film it w/ out this scene?

  • The English version is completely different. Eponine isn't even introduced.

  • The English version with these actors has Eponine.

  • which english version are you talking about? the one with liam neeson? if not then please tell me which one!

  • It's the same cast....2001 version. It's English (not dubbed) It is an all French cast plus John Malkovich as Javert.

  • do you know where i can find it to watch?

  • You can try Blockbuster or Netflix. I'm not sure though.

  • Tu vois, peut-être?

  • eponine is ftw, she's awesome, so everyone stop bitching about her

  • pejadah ney?

  • I agree Marius looks scary and fugly. But Cosette looks sublimely gorgeous. No, she didn't actually wrestle a soldier for the gun in the book (because that's not girly, lol) but this change fairly communicates that (a) Marius is definitely about to die and (b) she stops it from happening. So I don't mind it. The point is that she's, right at the last second, in spectacular fashion, atoning for poor choices.

  • me no likey...

where's the glorious romanticism of it all???

  • In the musical. In the novel, Eponine directed Marius to the barricades because, Hugo explicitly states, she figured "If I can't have him THEN NO ONE SHALL!!" Right before she gets what she wants (him being shot), she realised what she was doing and threw herself in front of the gun instead. So one could argue she isn't dying tragically and romantically for True Lurve. She's atoning for all the mistakes she's made up to that point. Which is just as awesome.

  • Ehh. Too wordy, not sentimental enough...I liked the musical version better. There, Eponine's death was bittersweet--here, it's just sort of creepy.

  • ummm... I thought Eponine and her family were slightly more impoverished than that dress leads you to believe...

  • this is from the movie correct?

  • what the heck are they saying????

  • speaking in french

  • it explains it in the little info box

  • how does marius not notice her down there?

  • Gasp! Marius is a two timer! XD

  • honestly, asia argento shits me in this scene. ball gown? and i didnt know people who have been shot in the chest can get up and run after lovers, how talented :|

  • LMAO!!! HAHAHAHA the Ball Gown makes me laugh too u_u

  • i know, right? that's like the first thing i thought and i mean come on, at least have her die with her eyes closed ... eyes open just scare me!!!!!! : \

  • too funny but true! but, then again this is poetic license.

  • I agree, it's totally ridiculous...although it probably had more to do with the directing than the actress.

  • @AngelBallerinaHo I think that's more due to the directing than the acting.

  • @AngelBallerinaHo The ballgown at least makes some sense. She was originally quite wealthy and then became poor. She would have kept her nicest dress and it would have became tattered and filthy as it was her only dress.

  • shes a very good actress! i could almost feel her pain as she died

  • i've got this but this scene isn't included!!

  • Is there any movie production that does the songs?

  • Find the 1958 version of this scene on youtube... perfection... eponine wears boy clothes and everything!

  • WHAT is she wearing? This is a ball gown!

    OMG idiots.

Eppie should be a street rat.

Poor Marius, I imagine what he's thinking: "... just DIE already..."

  • erm... how come there is never a good looking marius????

  • Well there is Jon Lee from S club 7..He played marius and he's quite good looking.

  • And Hugh Panaro. Quite a looker.

  • i agree......lol

  • because marius is a tool :|

  • As best I can tell, she's telling Marius that she has a letter from Cosette but wasn't going to give it to him. Eponine is after all in love with this dolt. But she shows the depth of her love by confessing and telling where he can find the woman he is in love with. I think in the garden. Something,something,something...her father and dead bodies. That's all I've got.My french is really bad.

  • huh, they cut that part from the three hour English version.

  • omg,there's a three hour english version???

is there anyway i can get it????

  • Yeah, it's like everywhere. haha.

  • funny, i've never seen it anywhere.

  • Just look for Les Miserables with Claire Danes in it. It should just be at Blockbuster or something.

  • it suks tho .. theyve cut half the parts like eponine shes in it once

  • i think the 1998 version with clair danes was just as good as this one, if not better:)

  • does anyone have the translation of what they are saying or atleast what eponine is saying??

  • Hmm...Enjolras not only knows that Cosette exists, but knows her name?

  • agree.

    why that red dress???

  • Agreed all around. She's supposed to be a waif. She's far too healthy looking and well-dressed.

  • She's dressed like a diva... ridiculous... where are the boys clothes?

Check the classic 1957 version. There this scene is perfect.

  • I, too, am frustrated by Eponine's cleanliness, beauty, apparent health, and pretty clothes. The character that Hugo wrote is a street-rat in every sense of the word---rough, dirty, skinny, pale, and ragged, and she is expressly described as not being attractive. Nor is the scene of her death (although very sad and deeply moving) as dramatically cinematic as it is portrayed here, with her stumbling off to Marius in the infirmary to make a "deathbed confession" of her sins. Ugh, it irritates me!

  • woulda been better with the song "little fall of rain"

    lol

  • love this!!!

can you maybe add english subtitles please??

  • BEUTY MUSIC IN THIS MINISERIES.

  • why is eponine's hair so perfect and her dress so elegant? not rags?

  • more importantly, why is she not dressed as a boy?

  • Marius looks Indian...

  • Yeah, no kidding! But Indian guys are hot, so it's ok. Eponine, however, is not supposed to look so pretty and healthy. Poor girl.

  • No, Indians are different (in their racial features). He looks more Italian or from Latin America.

  • Poor Eponine. She dies to save the man she loves and what does he do? Gives her a simple peck on the forehead and runs off with another girl.

  • beautiful acting...i dont understand the french behind it but its still beautiful. is there a version of this film with english subtitles?

  • I like this better than the 98 movie, cause Eponine isn't even in that one.

  • Is there any way I can Find this in English?

  • how morbid

  • what i find annoying about this film is that Marius doesn save Eponine and they have got Eponines chaacter all wrong she is supposed to be in rags nt a fancy dress!

  • i want videos like this, can you give me videos ( les miserables )?

    GREAT!!

  • This is heartbreaking and I can only speak/understand a little French.

  • Ugh I like Marius, but he is just too dang heartless. C'mon, she's been shot in the heart and is dying, and he's thinking of leaving?? Uh-uh. That's NOT okay. Lol but good job, I love all the acting :).

  • This isnt in the English version...

  • Seriously? That's stupid.

  • Oh sorry, I didn't watch the whole video. This isn't anything like the book. Is this the French version or the French voices are attached?

  • You know, there are some mistakes in the "about this video" section. Marius writes a letter to Cosette which he gives to Gavroche to deliver. On a piece of paper he writes that his dead body should be given to his grandfather, and he keeps this piece. And Marius didn't kiss Eponine on the lips. He kissed her on the forehead, thinking that he won't cheating on Cosette that way

  • All of that is true in the novel but I was talking about this particular adadaptation whcih changed a few things. He does kiss Eponine on the lips in this video and the letter he is writing at the beginning is to his grandfather.

  • eponine is my fave character though..EVER!

  • hahah yah, what's with the red dress.eponine is supposed to be this boyish girl in rags.

  • What's with the pretty red dress? She's supposed to be dressed in dirty rags!

  • Hahaha, I've been spending the last few days watching this movie, and it's so much crack...

Oh fugly!Marius, you don't kiss people on the lips after they cough up buckets of blood! That's just a bad choice.

  • Bahahaha! I read your fanficcy summary of this. This part is just as you said! I thought it was kid of funny, kind of gross, kind of sad. And I don't know French.... anyway.... *off to go find more clips*

  • Well, at least he did a light kiss, not a make out session. Now THAT would've been gross. I was intrigued by the fact that since Marius did not notice her getting shot, Eponine actually got up and wandered around to find him and die in his arms. Seriously, is THAT the last face you want to see?

    Oh, the fugliness . . .

  • OOHH!! I don't uderstand a word of French and i was almost in tears!

  • THANKS... and do you know in which part of the movie there is Depardieu guillaume?

  • SOMEBODY KNOWS IF guillaume depardieu ACTS IN THIS MOVIE????

  • He has a very small part, if I remember well... His father has the lead part : Jean Valjean.

  • I believe he plays the younger Valjean, shown in flashbacks stealing the loaf of bread, very briefly at the beginning of the film.

  • thanks ^_^

  • I LOVE THIS MINISERIES

  • I love the book and this miniseries, I think it was amazing...thankx, dude could you upload some of the scenes with javert?

  • uhhmmm sorry but i dont think she is fat..j healthy looking

  • marius is so stupid! eponine loves him so much but he doesnt care.

  • omg your so right, he doesnt deserve her.

  • The sots showing Eponine (particularly around the one-minute mark when she's running towards Marius) are soemwat jerky. Is that patrt of the camera work, the fault of the frame rate, or what?

*curious, it's somewhat odd how the camera jerks while she's climbing and running. Still good, though.*

  • I think it's the fault of the software I used to rip this scene. It's not like that on the DVD.

  • poor Eponine

  • why does Eponine look like a prositute? She's supposed to be an urchin.

  • And she's supposed to be an ugly one at that, not awesomely pretty like this.

  • ya she is pretty but the dress annoys mes

  • read the freakin book you moron shes pretty just thin >:( and in the play shes supposed to be pretty but thin too DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH! :p learn more of something before you dis...

  • "...a blond and lymphatic pallor, dirty shoulder blades, red hands, the mouth open and sickly, some teeth missing, the eyes dull, bold and drooping, the form of a mishapen young girl and the stare of a corrupted old woman...one of those beings who are both frail and horrible..."

^According to the book, Eponine was definitely not pretty. She probably would have been with decent hygiene but her circumstances pretty much prevented that.

  • thats true, thats true. ok then shes supposed to be pretty/ugly and MissDookia, sorry your right. She isn't supposed to be this pretty, they just pick sexy actors to play girs to grab peoples attention ;) haha

  • They do often pick pretty people to play Eponine. For the musical, the casting description for Eponine even says "very pretty."

I, personally, would love to see her grubby, filthy and toothless as well as slightly insane the way she is in the book.

  • Amen to that!

  • Oh, definitely! I love insane!Eponine from the brick!

  • In the recent Broadway revival of the musical, I think Celia Keenan-Bolger's portrayal of Ponine was quite true to the book.
