This is what happens when the government get involved with education. It's about test scores, time schedules and avoiding a law suit (the dangerous river). Teaching today has nothing to do with education. It's about government funding.
@TFMTraining It's not about government funding in the way you think - it's about MONEY. Textbook money, module money, training money, education-related companies padding the pockets of legislators who in turn muck around with the schools and make them purchase crap they don't need.
This is exactly why I homeschool. Even good teachers like the man in this video are forced to follow these ridiculous guidelines and make students hate learning.
Sadly, this is accurate. I'm a first year teacher and didn't realize that these day teaching is just reading scripted lessons written by the district and the taking the fall when they don't raise test scores :(
When you force intelligent, creative, effective, motivated, innovative teachers to march in lock-step, to follow a script in the pursuit of test results, you risk losing those teachers, and you guarantee that they will either deliver an inferior education, or waste time and energy trying to look obedient and compliant while still doing what's right for students. Unfortunately, the modern day job of teaching has become a realm in which teachers are not allowed to practice the art of teaching.
@nedfender No wonder a lot of teachers are fed up with their job. They basically turned what's supposed to be a very open career upside down and made it as regimented as a blue-collar factory worker.
People usually see teachers are figures of authority making students' lives difficult, but not many are aware that they, in turn are put in a choke-hold by higher authorities.
This is all too true. All too true.

@plugee Mr. Kent is constantly interrupted in his classroom, like all teachers, by administration, staff, and by the phone in his classroom.
