  • Somehow didn't watch this ep until now. Interesting contrast with the moff, I must admit I did love the melodrama of mr tennant. And running in around in corridors can never get old! Much. I might have to review some of my thoughts on the end of time now. Still got to watch the bus one now.

  • @gadgetgeekgirl Don't worry about the Planet of the Dead. Aside from Tennants opening line pre-credits you're not missing much. But Waters was a real high point! A high watermark?!

  • BBCAmerica showed the 2009 Christmas specials on the 26th and on Jan 2.

  • So only a day behind for once - nice! Now if only the UK showed shows a day behind the states!

  • I live in America. The episode "Planet of the Dead" is an Easter special, and it premiered here in NOVEMBER!!! I've given up on waiting for these episodes to show up in America. From now on, I'm watching them on youtube, instead of having to wait for a Christmas special to premier in the middle of July. I saw the Waters of Mars earlier today, a week before the American premier! HA, TAKE THAT REST OF AMERICA!!!

  • Wow, I didn't realise they were taking that long to show them over there! Then again it was a devil's age between Dead and Mars over here - 4 specials in 2009? More like one special and then three Yuletide eps!

  • YOU GOT 4 EPISODES?! WE GOT THREE! (I think)

  • Dead, Mars and End of Time pts 1 and two (Christmas Day and NYD I think for the End of Time I thinks...)

  • if I recall correctly they said that Gadget was adapted from the giant robots that built the Mars Base, so yes Gadget built it.

  • I was clearly laughing too hard at the "funny robots" line to catch that bit :)

  • @llordllama we all miss something

  • lol funny review!!!! just a point on the building of the base, Roman said that they had robot droids that did the work. He based Gadget on them, albiet a smaller version of those robots. Loved the epsiode my self!!!!

  • AH! The line clearly didn't register :) Then again it was still very big for just a few people, but at least they had somewhere to run!

  • The Doctor's craze at the end of the episode was the highlight for me. He had so many great and surprising lines in that scene and David's acting was superb - he's making it harder and harder for Matt Smith to live up to expectations (although I've seen clips of MS as the Doctor, he's not DT, but he's definately entertaining ). Also, he said it so casually that I didn't notice until later, but the Doctor actually asked to be thanked for the first time. A great episode with some great twists.

  • It's not a long stretch from "Time Lord Victorious" to "Master Vainglorious" if you ask me. But DT just stole every moment from that moment of decision! He's gone too far this time...bring on the Valeyard!

  • Good calls! I'd be shocked if the similarity between the Doctor and the Master don't come into play in the final 2 specials. And you could be very right about the Valeyard. Have you seen the photo of Timothy Dalton standing with David Tennant and John Simm?

  • Yes. Yes I have. Christmas can't come too soon...

  • @llordllama Yep, judging from that photo, it seems you're on the right track. I've also heard the Valeyard was part of the Doctor in a way. Is this true because I've never seen the classic series, only clips.

  • He was the 13th (last) incarnation of the Doctor, assuming the Colin Baker (6th) carried on the way he was going. But then he was only a "possible" future Doctor.

  • "And who'd have thought that Russel wrote this?"

Well, it was a giveway that the script was Russel's when the Russian character randomly said, "I'm watching a video from my brother. He has a husband." It's understandable that Russel wants to represent his sexuality on TV, but whenever he tries to, it feels so forced and random. lol

  • Ooh, damn I missed that line (I was serving dinner at the start of the ep!) - well yes, agenda all round.

  • Crunchy monsters! brill review!

  • Tasty tasty monsters

  • LOL awesome

"You had better not be talking about the bloody ood!" XD

    and

"No one dies! Erm, apart from Adric, yeah he was asking for it!" XD

Best two quotes of the review! XD

  • Heh. The 2nd was the first thing I thought of post episode!

  • Apart From Adric...Very Funny..Tee Hee

  • I love him really...not.

  • You forgot to mention how depressing it was that we finally find out the Doctors encyclopedic knowledge of history comes not from his time at Gallifrey High, but from Wikipedia!

  • *laughs* Or the BBC News pages - but yes, maybe the BBC becomes the Matrix!

  • I didn't like the story much but loved your review.

"Everybody lives ... except for Adric, he was asking for it ..."

  • No love for Adric it seems :) I can live with that, though I suspect he can't!

  • Yeah, kinda like with most modern sci-fi, there's some things I just have to forgive in order to enjoy it.

The music was dreadful, as always.

There was too much spent on leading up to the real interesting part of the episode...that is, the Doctor going a bit scary.

All in all, though, far more palatable than the last special.

    Solid 8/10.

  • Far. Too. Much. Pointless. Running. And don't get me started on that bit riding the robot...

  • Yeah, where does the propulsive energy come from?

If the thing is DESIGNED to go 2 MPH, guess what? It's not gonna go any faster, no matter what you do to it's programming!

  • Sonic-Nitrous Oxide?

  • @vengeance1701 I agree with everything you said except for one thing: What do have against Murray Gold's score?

  • It's just so....loud and intrusive.

    "FEEL THIS WAY, JACKASS, FEEL...THIS....WAY!"

    He has no subtlety.

  • I can see why you'd say that. But it may have to do with the editing, too. The music may need to be turned down a little. And certain scenes wouldn't be the same without louder music. The Doctor and Christina's race back to the bus in Planet of the Dead is a recent example of music playing a prominent role in a scene.

  • Nice review, guys!

  • We thank you!
