That is some cool stuff. I have been doing a little work on genetic programming as well. Are you applying this to the ghosts as well? It would be interesting to see what kind of behaviors could evolve if both the ghosts and pacman evolved.
i'm running experiments on pacman as part of my phd thesis. i'm using gp with a decision tree representation and to be honest i think that the presented controller is not evolved but handcoded. it's too hard to evolve this kind of behaviour, unless very hight-level primitives are allowed in the evolvable individuals. But as long as the author idsnot clarifying this in mayraetais's question i simple don't believe that this was actually evolved.
im a bioe undergrad, and when i heard about genetic programming, i got hooked....i think im gonna do a thesis on this too...although i dont know how i could apply this technology to bioinformatics yet....
It's not very good at the game. It loses all of its lives before the end of the second (strawberry) screen. When I used to play the arcade game I didn't think I was playing well unless I got through the first 5 screens without losing a life.
It goes for the power pills when the ghosts are too far away. When it is not being chased it should clear the dots. It doesn't use the tunnels.

I think so too, it may be that hes evolving specific parameters from which a program uses.
At least that's what I do... : /

What primirives are you using in the evolved programes and what is the program's output? The controller looks really good! ;)

How are you interfacing with the game? Are you screen scraping, or reading memory locations, or what?
