Man, this is super inspiring for me! I'm running Battery 3 on Logic, which unfortunately doesn't have the best sample editor (or one that's inline on the arrange). I'd love to see more detail on some of those noises, most of what you did were repeats, but I'd love to learn more about some of these glitchier sounds that are in your composition. How many different beats did you use to chop up? How long does it take you to make a beat like this?
yes, battery - It's a sampler, so you can use presets, or your own samples. It's also got a bunch of synthesis options and dsp options, so you can manipulate the samples quite a bit.
You can get Battery (and every Native Instruments plug-ins) in any good music store, or search for Native Instruments in Google, and go on their web page... you can buy all their VST plug-ins (including Battery) online.
I like the song at the end....good stuff. you don't need to bother with recording your midi track to an audio track. just right click or ctrl+click the midi clip and freeze it. then option +click the track and drag to a free space. rightclick/ctrl click on the clip and hit flatten. turns it to audio. doesn't seem that useful for small clips but save a lot of time with larger clips.
I normally just arrange the initial beat in midi and then work in all audio. I used to do a lot of midi sequencing, but I noticed I get the results I like more from working in audio.
did you record this with a potato?

Does Ableton Live 8 come with sounds and drum kits already and how many are they. Thanks.
MITYANYC 3 years ago
ableton live 8 isn't out yet.
Artelis 3 years ago
Oh, my mistake. Then how about other versions?
MITYANYC 3 years ago
it comes with some preset drum kits with the drum machine called Impulse. There's probably about 50 different presets in version 7.
