how can i mirror my macbook pro threw apple tv??? like if im surfing the web it will show up on my tv with out connecting my mac to the tv via hdmi ?? plz help just subscribed!
Apple tv is awesome, for $100 I can watch everything I downloaded from iTunes on tv perfect. I wish I knew about this before. I would buy another one for my living room but I'm going to wait for the 3rd gen to come out
can i play apple tv through my surround sound system without the optical audio cable and just use the hdmi cable? my surround sound is connected to my dvd player and the apple tv is obviously connected to my tv
if i bought apple tv and use airplay with ipad 2 can you browse the internet on your tv will it show this or does it only show moves ,,you tube,,and music???? i want to browse internet on my tv with my ipad 2 with out wires :)
If I got Apple TV, I'd be using homeshare for my movies. The movies would need to be stored on an external hard drive which iTunes would use as its library location. Would USB be quick enough or would I need Firewire?
@Mr2018TV - See my other videos. I do not leave my computer on at all. I can stream from other devices, or you can rent movies straight through the AppleTV2.
@mrsnads1 - Yes you need your own seperate HDMI cable. Good internet speed depends on your use. If you will be downloading or renting movies etc, then you'll need a decent speed. If you are only using it to airplay from you iDevice for example, then its your internal network speed that needs to be decent.
Can ya tell me what router you are using..as my BT home hub 3 keeps dropping the airplay ion over Ethernet with my pioneer 921 home cinema reciever..will the wireless work better....?..it is about 38mbps..as its BT infinity
but u need to have good internet for streaming and that, right? damn, cuz i only get 160kb/s at tops :( will airport extreme give me faster internet speed ?
@iAUZGAM3R - If you are using airplay from your computer/iDevice then you Internet connection has nothing to do with it - it about the speed of the wireless within your house.
is the airplay exclusive for itunes only? i mean is it gonna work if i play a down loaded movie to VLC or quicktime movie player then airplay or sync it to the apple tv?
Ok so your just gonna put al the cables everytime on the tv? Its just an example why apple is genious it focus on how easy and wel designed their products are without putting cables everywhere installing drivers everywhere.
@up97 actually your comment looks stupid in this video. While you may have your own opinion and I respect that, you clearly don't get the point of the device. You can airplay any device not just a computer. You can play a game on the iPad and watch it on the TV, you can stream a movie from your iPhone and watch it on your TV, you can play music on your iPod and list to it on your TV,you can create a 1080p video from iMovie and watch it on your TV....all devices, all wireless.
@dearash07 - Yes, you can continue to use your iPad as normal, and the AirPlay content will continue to stream in the background since it continues to run in your multitasking bar.
I have some films and tv-shows in my Itunes, and i want to buy AppleTV2 so i can see them on my widescreen tv.
Some of the films and tv-shows is not widescreen when i play them in Itunes. My question is... Will they become widescreen on my tv when i stream them to my AppleTV2 ???
- Sorry for my english - I hope someone answer me :-D
@02johnmatt - Press the Menu button on the remote. Or if you have the 'Remote' app on your iPhone or iPad, you can switch on my pressing the menu button via that app. Alternatively, if you just start Airplaying a movie, it will switch itself on automatically.
@tevine580 - No. I have Home Sharing enabled on my AppleTV2, iPad and iPhone. Although its also enabled on my MacBook, my MacBook is usually switched off when performing the tasks shown in this video.
For the cable ports on the back of the apple TV unit, to connect it to my Television do I need both the HDMI and Optical Audio cables? And, Im under the impression that if my home is a Wi-Fi spot, then I don't need an ethernet cable, right?
Yeah I want to know the same thing Damian wants to know. Does it play things you download through sources that may be illegal, or may be immoral? I.E., torrents, and private trackers.
@kjeezy101 - I stream anything. I have my movies on my NAS, and then use my iPad or iPhone to play those movies using an app called 'AirPlayer'. I then airplay these wirelessly across to the Apple TV - hence no instance of iTunes needs to be running etc.
Great video, Q. Does the apple TV only stream movies and music that are purchased in iTunes, or can it also stream other films and music outside of iTunes ? liked downloaded content. Ty :)
Great review going to get one as my dads mate is selling it for £50 and he only had it for a month looks great my dads mate said it's great but he getting rid of it cause he has no apple device and just wanted it to play movies of the pc and he said there's no point when he could get a cable to do that but I am getting it so happy :)
@1d2p3 - Yes, you need to have an instance of iTunes running. I get around that by placing the content on my NAS and using my iPad or iPhone to AirPlay it across to my ATV - works perfect ;o)
Well I know I should have read the box, but I'm 30 now and the print is SMALL AS HELL!!! It woulda been nice if the fool at BestBuy would have told me I needed to buy an extra device (HDMI Cord) to use this!!!
@iftibashir exactly! And since it was Apple thats what I assumed. Like i've always heard, never ever assume. Thank god I found an extra one. I still dunno what its really for though? lol just playing with it……did u JB yours?

@ironscabula1 - Yes it will work with any display that supports HDMI.

@iftibashir Oh awesome! I would have thought I would have to have an HD TV to do so. No other cables required? Thanks for the fast response!
ironscabula1 1 day ago
@ironscabula1 - Nope. HDMI carries both audio and video, so no other cables between the two are required.
