  • In response to several comments asking what kind of fiddle she is playing, it is a Toussad Lee that her parents bought from me for her when she was about 10. That makes it about 11 years old. It was new at the time but was one of those "Flower of the Flock" fiddles that stood out even when new. She has kept it and the original bow as her major instrument ensemble. Being played in tune hours and hours a day and being loved and cherished bring out the best in a fiddle, as they do in a child.

  • Way to Go Maggie !! Great job on the fiddle ! :)

  • Wow, love it!

  • A young woman with a bright future. As we say on the bayou Tres bon cher, tres bon.

  • "Misty Moonlight Waltz" (Mark O`connor)

  • What were the names of the pieces? I couldn't hear her very well.

  • Whaw ! My english is very poor... as my fiddling. But I just want to say that's wonderfull. What a pleasure to hear and see such a beautyfull feeling. A huge happyness instant for me. Thanks ! As a dream : one more sweetness in my life.

  • what song is this?

  • well done

  • Franco Belgian is the way.

  • The belt obviously waisted a much larger defeated.

  • Couldn't hear the name of the two tunes. Could you let us know?

  • @honeytoto2001 the second one was billy in the low ground

  • Is that a chastity belt?

  • Awesome! otf in one so young. each cord sparkles. the bow never drags. listen up perlman!

  • She's incredible!

  • In answer to some question below, she is from Kentucky, started playing when she was 4, studying with Donis Schweitzer, a well known Suzuki Method teacher. Not too long down the road she began studying with other instructors in both classical and old time methods. She did home school so she could have more time to work on fiddle. She was a nice kid and is a nice adult now. She plays even better today if that's possible. All of us are SO proud of her accomplishments.

  • The divisions are based on age, not level of playing skill. She was about 15 when this was recorded. She is now 21 and attends Belmont in Nashville. She plays with Peter Mayer, there are some vids on the tube of her playing with the Peter Mayer Group. She is even better today.

  • This is the rookie version, its quite amazing?! I'm scarred to see the advanced division :/

  • what is this song called?

  • Maggie, you sound fantastic! It's hard to believe they put you in the beginner's division! Keep it up!

  • @Canoe571 no kidding, she's a fantastic player. plenty skilled to compete with better players than a beginner's division.

  • Beginning Division ...you kidding me right?

  • Both watered my eyes pretty good.

  • Very nice!!

  • i like the classical violin (lolz fiddle) more then this

  • @GOLDMATT123 I'm sorry to hear that, that's too bad...lol

  • Southern style violin is so basic, drawn out ,and lazy. Makes me want to hear some celtic.

  • That is some belt...

  • Wow! This girl's pitch on that fiddle is great on that waltz....it is a very difficult tune to play.

  • 17 people are BLIND AND DEAF

  • Beautiful!

  • i believe she plays classical too, moves this way!

  • She's amazing!

  • everytime I get into this fiddle shit on YouTube I loose sleep cause I can't stop

  • @420THECRYPTKEEPER haha, I hear you.

  • @WoolyBuggerPicker

    wooly bugger picker??? ROTFLMAO

O no now I'll be watching fiddles for 6-10 hours again

  • @420THECRYPTKEEPER 10-4 on that.

  • @420THECRYPTKEEPER 10-4 on that.

  • Other than her playing is excellent, I appreciate the value she puts on her instrument and the need to protect it from the microphone set-up guy...good fiddle playing...!

  • I came across this by accident when looking at Scottish fiddle players. I flicked throught the comments and was dismayed to see some were negative. I play the fidde, and I have to say she is, technically, very good. Another said she had obviously been practising + so what. Good for this young lass. Only committment and dedication gets you to this level.

  • 17 people must have fiddle envy. This is awesome.. So many talented young musicians out there right now.

  • Amazing double stops. Well done. I hope you won

  • Very nice double stops.

  • Not typically cajun in my opinion...

  • fantastica

  • absolutely beautiful -- How long has she been playing fiddle? There are folks who have been playing lot longer than Maggie, and could never beat her.

  • 14 people suffer mental illness.

  • Great playing but she is a violinist. Not a fiddle player. she been trained.

  • @mickkey7: What do you want to say with this? I guess most "violinists" can't play like her. So maybe she's just a very good fiddler? ;-)

  • @mickkey7: Well, and anyhow it needs a lot of training to be a good fiddler!

  • This is a great sounding fiddle and Maggie sure can play it. Thanks for posting.

  • Second song is awesome.

  • the Perfectionist

  • Holy moley! This kid is great. Dale Morris & Jimmy Don Bates ain't got nuthin on her.

  • it's beautiful

  • How much more do you need?She sounds great & looks great.That's a win win situation.Good thing I wasn't a judge.I'm afraid I would have been impartial.

  • that is violinist technique... But I wonder if she just learned the tune from ear... that's the hard part anyway! what' the name of the tune anyway?

  • that is violinist technique... But I wonder if she just learned the tune from ear... that's the hard part anyway!

  • i wish i could play that well, i bought a damn learning guide, thing doesnt even teach me anything...so i have a fiddle and dont know how to play it.

  • This is really good, just not quite like that Jessica Willis...

  • She is very good, especially for a young kid. I can't tell her age. Maybe in high school. I'll bet her parents are very proud of her. Her father will really need to watch as the young men beat a path to her door. Wishing her all the very best. Respectfully, RN

  • I like the belt. Southern style.

  • She is very good for only being in the beginners div.I would hate to see the expert div.

  • she can play my fiddle anytime.

  • @gunnyjones u sick bastard, what is she like 12??? wtg pedobear

  • @airmancanada replying to 1 year old comments are awesome!

  • @gunnyjones It's like bumping a dead thread...

  • @gunnyjones What is wrong with you...

  • Is old time the period after yesteryear?

  • she's wonderful!!

  • the first one sounds more of English descent than Scottish or Irish, second one, Irish, and quite possibly Scots, as well. great bluegrass influence though.

  • she's so cute :)

  • The second tune is played in Ireland too. Obviously quite a different style...

  • @plevyman sorry folks its not irish or scottish ,but its a good norwgeian folks music ;-)))))) and she is a whonderfull good player ,but i miss the bass ;-))))

  • Excellent performance and greatly motivating for my young fiddler!

  • no need for double guitar back-up

  • @jambrochill The guy on the left is playing a tenor to give it that banjo sound you may hear.

  • @jambrochill The guitar on the left is a tenor, in case you didn't notice.

It's tuned in fifths and it sounds different than a normal 6 string.

  • Que MARAVILLOSA MUJERRRRRRRRRRRRRRR , como toca !!!! por Diossssssssss

  • great playing!

  • One to watch. Serious talent.

  • THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THINGS IVE EVER HEARD WOW!!!!!! SHE IS AMAZING!!!

  • The belt is Southern Style. It looks good and so does Maggie.

  • I have trouble believing she is a beginner.

  • Simplismente muito linda! Belo som!

  • Not that anyone cares, but the guitarist on the right is much better than the one on the left.

  • @hobodoctor Your right, or my right?

  • @useryug The one not playing bar chords and strumming with his arm.

  • Misty Moonlight Waltz...what a hauntingly sorrowful, yet beautiful piece of music.

  • Grandiosa! Ferteio! Muito linda mesmo!

  • can anybody tell me what this tune is called? ?

  • @leclairjeanm the 1st song is,misty moonlight waltz

  • gotta be a quick one to put a ring on a girl like that!

  • She's rockin Billy in the Lowground. Nice!

  • If that's the beginning division, then what are the intermediate and advance divisions like?

  • @greadore

True, better consider moving to Clarkskville

  • @greadore

They play on burning instruments xD

  • is that Daniel Carwhile backing her up on guitar?

  • There is a sweetness and a softness to the old time style that is quite different from the hard-driving showiness of bluegrass. This clip is a great example of this.

  • This video is about 3 years old now. She has grown up and is going to college and playing with the Peter Mayer Group. You can see her on several videos on UTube. The reason she was in the beginner group here is because of her age. It should actually be called the "Juniors" -- not beginners. She is a special friend of mine and I like to think I had something to do with her playing so well. Among other things - she is playing a fiddle and bow I got for her when she was 9. A Sweetheart!!

  • Excellent. Very, very talented young woman. Thank you Maggie and backup group.

  • AWESOME comes to mind..... How could anyone not like 'THAT' performance????

  • i think it's sean o'connor 1960's misty moonlite waltz

  • this is the "beginning division"? she sounds great.

  • All there is to say is "Wow"!

  • Sweet !!! Very good

  • check out that chop at 3:23!

  • Beautiful! and great rhythm guitar and bass also.

  • Mighty fine!! The tradition is in good hands in Tennessee.

    Nice rhythm guitars also.

  • beautiful!

  • Wow, Great Job! Awesome stuff. Keep up the good work!

    ~Brien

  • very, very, very good stuff!

  • Misty Moonlight Waltz and Billy in the Lowground

whoa Maggie Estes is a fantastic player - Beginner Division? c'mon...

  • I've got to know what those pieces were, I'd love to learn and play them, as im a fiddler myself! Could anyone tell me?!

  • Spoken like a true noob. Btw, lamest vid on your profile I have ever seen, bertie. I'm +4, so STFU.

  • Maggie, you are a dream - but apart from that the guitar(s) deserve a big "hand" !!

  • Shocked to find tears in my eyes; how sweet! She sure knows her way around a fiddle...

  • ... and apart from that, this is just the most astounding Waltz ever I heard. Bless her, she's amazin !

  • Absolutely exquisitely beautiful fiddling. Just perfect. Thank you.

  • Can't be helped, It's love at first sight, I'm afraid. The sound has as much to answer-for as well !.

Dare I have a go at that music !

  • What song is that???

  • This is amazing! I play my self... not nearly as beautiful as she does, very impressive! I would like to be able to play with that kind of skill, it is truly spectacular!

  • Comment removed

  • It's interesting you noticed it, yet you fail to acknowledge the belt as attention getting positive. (Only some negative envious rant)

  • How can you even look at her belt? CAN YOU HEAR WHAT SHE'S PLAYING? It's good.

  • plays just like mark o'connor!

  • Very talented. Shocking for a young person to be that good.

  • She's obviously had classical training...she has slick moves...lol... very good.

  • Maggie you were wonderful last night performing with Peter Mayer in Denver at Bethany Lutherun church with your talent you will go a long ways. You are truly Blessed!

  • Maggie, that is really beautiful. Thanks to you and your friends for posting. Well done!!!!

  • Fantastic playing - I'm just starting and although it's been a steady diet of classic, I'd love to play stuff like this one day :)

  • Clarkskville, TN is where it's at....

  • Holy cow. Didn't expect that.

  • Damn. She is really, really good!

  • you go girl

  • The Misty Mountain Waltz is one of Mark O'Connor's early compositions. Beautifully played here.

  • what year did o'connor write this if you could tell me ........? thanx

  • Acutally, it Misty Moonlight Waltz - I odn't know why I typed "Mountain" (most likely due to the early onset of senility). I think it was composed in 1977 . He was 16 at the time anyway, and his dob is 5 Aug 1961. He recorded it on the 1979 album Soppin' the Gravy.

  • Thanks do much for the music info. I only just discovered Mark O'Connor, and incredible as I find some of his music, it titalyy rocks my sox that he was behind this - the best waltz I ever heard ! - and so perfectly dispatched here by youmg Miss Estes ! (I pray that she will recover from here clogg-dancing - so that I can. COME BACK !)

  • Wow, Maggie! Will ya marry me?

  • GREAT FIDDLING

  • Does anyone else know the second tune as "Billy in the Low Ground"?

  • It's the only way I have heard it called. I play this tune in the key of C, as she does. Great fiddlin' Maggie;)

  • It is Billy in the Lowground. One of the best fiddle tunes IMO.

  • It is Billy in the Lowground.....great tune

  • Cajun Fiddle, right?

please correct me if im wrong.

    she is Auhh-Mayyy-Ziingg!

  • Actually it's considered Old-time music;)

  • @kendraiscoolio misty moonlight waltz

  • @kendraiscoolio Not Cajun. Not Old-Time. Possibly bluegrass, but I doubt it.

  • @scbroadcaster 'Tard

  • I don't understand the "beginning division" part of this video's description. Maggie is DEFINITELY not a beginner!

    Great stuff, Maggie!

  • Great! Post some more recent stuff. I bet you have Stuart Duncan and the rest nervous.

  • why i have the feeling shes russian

  • Shy, shy, shy!

  • Smile Girl! Your playing is awesome!

  • great playing; terrible belt

  • @harneyjt miaow ;)

  • @harneyjt that was a stupid comment
