  • lmao the person who disliked this video gotta be from Hampton..smh

    MDF$ 2010

    #3 Kev Hart

    follow me @smoovdaddy91

  • VSU and MDFS are very similar.. But to b honest.. I think VSU is better.. WTH HARNESSES!!!!

  • @KC816KC VSU has never been better than Norfolk..sorry.

  • @NSUMDFS But I believe VSU won with horsepower.. And honestly the drumline might not have won but I think VSU's chops r better the Norfol

  • @KC816KC eveyone has the right to an opinion

  • @NSUMDFS Yezzir!!

  • can some one teach me that very first quint solo

  • 2:40 Yhu Can Tell Dey 4rm DC

  • aye wheres the video to 2:02.?

  • ALL THESE HATERS OUTSIDE OF SPARTAN CITY...NAUGHTY BY NORFOLK... MD..TELL THEM HOW HARD CHECK OFF IS... THESE SHOWS ARE JUST PRACTICE... THE REAL WORK IS IN OUR CHOPPING SESSIONS.. MD CAN PLAY THE SAME THING FOR YEARS AND OTHER BANDS CANT DUPLICATE, MATCH, OR BEAT THE GOOVE OF MD..

  • did ralph nader from blue devils perform on this drumline?

  • naw, he plays for hampton university

  • I dont when that tenor lck is from but my drumline, Jacksonville State Univ, has a cadence thats pretty much the same there a little ore licks but idk either we stole oer they stole it??

  • @theprodegy12 i dont know where that tenor lick at 1:10 is from but my drumline, Jacksonville State University, has a cadence with those same notes!!! Idk who stole it...but im sure it wasnt us!!!

  • the thing i hate most is when ppl come to videos of other lines & hate. If you dont like it dont watch it! Different sections do different things. There is not one set percussive technique their are different styles and interpretations thats why percussion is so dynamic! But I got to give it to MDFS those boys be on point with what they do. One thing i like about yall is that yall dont let yall dancing take away from the playing which happens a lot in different sections...Kudos to yall!

  • The best.

  • they are so much fun to watch! you can't help but move!

  • their playig Delsate next satuday, i might be there =]

  • Just..............................AMAZING!

  • WOOOO! THAT TENOR SOLO AT 1:10

  • Great, and Fantastic Job you have done with this NSU Drumline Mr. Beathea.....

  • yall just look like a show band rather than have technicality like UNA drum line...

  • I have played for DCI Drumlines, and have written cadences for HBCU Drumlines as well. NSU by far is the greatest I have seen in a long time. No HBCU Drumline can compare. They have the entertainment style yet they can keep it corp style. That's what win championships and competitions. KUDOS to NSU Drumline.

  • Clarinetplr2004,

And UNA is nothing more than a Corp Style Band, with no form of Showmanship or Entertainment for their audiences Your Band is one dimensional with only classical music. Norfolk State can do both Corp Style, and Show Band (Big 10 Style) They (NSU) can perform competitive, and for their audience.

  • ~*MDFS CERTIFIED*~

The UNDISPUTED Heavy Weight Champions of the HBCU Drumlines!

    Continue the EXCELLENCE tradition.

    "RhythmSensei"

  • when is nsu highschool band camp because i would like to attend...

  • maaaaannn 2:01.....thatz my favorite part. i keep rewinding it baq!!!! lol. anyone know where i can find tha rest of that video???

  • I am honored to have marched to the beat of these men and women. I have got to have one of them run a clinic and start my high school off right.

  • Can sum 1 plz tell me wat it takes to get on this line i wanna join...

  • U have to first get accepted in the school, audition on an instrument for the band and report to band camp. MD is easily the most competitive section in the band and some prospects never make it on an instrument.

I would recommend that if u are in high school, go to the high school band camp first.

  • 3:03 is SICK!!!!

  • The BEST HBCU drumline period.

  • technically speaking, the mdfs is always gone be the best. period. who else can match that articulation, expression, dynamics, and tempo control? nobody....

  • Straight kiilin that shit!! fo real

  • I happened to view the stuff from Houston and it is awful. NSU has the best drumline hands down in the MEAC and I will go further to say, one of the best drumlines in the country.

  • i really like the way these guys are pressing the mold in black college drumline. I agree they are probably the #1 in this idiom. I see some corp aspects, very nice. Still i say, speed up and play hard stuff.

  • Norfolk State University Drumline is the Best HBCU Drumline by far in the US.

  • LMAO at Mr. Bethea after the last hit, running in the middle of us hype denabitch...I didn't even see him do that until I watched this.

  • lmao i aint even notice either. I know he was proud as hell.

  • ~*MDFS Certified*~

    30 Years of EXCELLENCE!

We stand on the shoulders of some very Accomplished Brothers. Let us continue to produce extremely talented Percussionist. When asked, be proud to say.....

I HAIL FROM THE MILLION DOLLAR FUNK SQUARD!

    RhythmSensei.

Take a moment to observe some of the Original Members.(page fav's)

  • 1:30 is my favorite part. Awesome drumline.

  • This is personally my favorite drumline. But as it has been stated, we have our differences in styles and prefrences, it is always good when u can entertain without tainting percussion as an art.

  • What an OUTSTANDING HBCU Drumline...... NO Other HBCU Drumline compares.......

  • 3rd?...lol. MDFS is not in any competition with any Meac/Swac/CIAA/SIAC lines. They perform to keep tradition and expand hbcu percussion to new levels and expectations. The reward they get is when alumni are pleased with thier progress. Mission accomplished, cause we are more than pleased. If anything, they are in competition with themselves to be better than the year before. So you can keep your lil rankings to yourselves.

  • Well said Bro.Graves!

    The e3 concept:Enhance Enlighten Educate!

We were always more concered about MDFS alums than ANY drumline. Our first priority was to make sure the level of EXCELLENCE was being upheld.

  • So true...but of course simpler minds don't, and will never try to understand. I am proud to say I was apart of this tradition, and now that my marching career has come to a close with Honda 08, I look forward to seeing what my little brothers and sisters have in store...I LOVE YOU MD...keep upholding the traditions that were laid before even I came along (so old lol).

  • Nice clip this prove that they are third best drum line in the Meac.I would like to see them battle BBI. That would be a treat.

  • i don't want to hear talking about The Box and Funk Train cause their not on our level. Actually when they saw M.D.F.$ the were amazed at the fact we are black and could play. Funk Train didn't want it in 99 nor 2000 and we actually didn't see the box so i can't comment on them.

    MACK 10

    M.D.F.$ Fall 01

    Snare

  • If you care about entertainment, imo, the BOX takes it by a slight edge. If you care more about music and less about visuals, MDFS has it down. The BOX, Sudden Impact and Platinum Forte are the only groups anywhere near clean enough to put up alongside or against MDFS. Great video Steve.

  • Gotta be honest... They can play. They can chop. But they aren't as extraordinarily tricky as The BOx or Funk Train.... They stuff they play is nothing new down here in Houston..... Their cleanliness give them a big edge, but that's because their Visuals are super-easy.... I know sum would disagree, but I have seen better from my section (Funk Train) and The BOX.

  • I guess the first line in your response is the difference. MD dosent concentrate on "tricks" they concentrate on rudiments and cleanliness. The "super-easy"(lol) visuals are just an added feature with these boys. The percussion instructor works really hard to teach "percussion" and we work really hard to attract students who want to learn. So the tricks and gimmicks can stay with SU/PV/A&T etc.

  • I understand your opinion, bruh... But our section at TxSU does the same thing, with a little bit more visual creativity... I'm not negating yalls "Percussive Awareness". Yall definitely have that... I just the know that I have done and seen better stuff without compromising the art of Percussion for the sake of crowd response.... I wish we could have battled yall at Honda. That woulda been a great match-up. Both of our sections shoot for the same thing...

  • We both may shoot for the same things... However, the deference is clear.

  • I hear you. I guess it depends on what you consider to be "better." That definition tends to change from region to region. No disrespect I'm sure we both prefer the style of our individual schools.

  • The difference really is clear...Wow, NSU rules!!!! 7:10-8:25 says it all...no other hbcu can compare...NONE!!!

  • Rhythmsensi...I deleted your post my by mistake...sorry about that...thanks for the props!

  • Comment removed

  • The bad part is ...you can look at a MDFS 87' clip and pretty much here some of the same material. If you gonna hate, atleast know what you are talking about. *smh*

  • Exactly...

    This is hall-of-fame Steve!

  • LOL...Haters never cease to amaze me!

  • lol@ mdfs not being original...I done heard it all now. Black people chop too nukka.

  • Man haul ass with that bullshat. MDFS has a host of writers for their material. They don't steal from nobody (white or black).

  • i wouldnt dare put those 2 against each other. lol NEVER

  • the best!

  • They're cool for that style, but i'm more of a chocolate thunder, wt, funk factory, rat pack kind of percussionist. I'd like to see them and The Box in a competition.

  • Honestly the BOX will win in my book because they are original. Million Dollar Funk Squad is cool and all but I saw nothing original in this video everything they did I saw a DCI or WGI line do
