  • Sounds like a guitar to me

  • I want one! :D

  • check my channel out for some goods

  • Nice t-shirt.

  • 42 people not are people!

  • he hould make a solo with john myung on fretless bongo.now that will be amazing

  • The price o this instrument goes around 3000; but the fullsize continuum is 5000... Damn that's a lot of money.

  • wow a video uploaded in 2005

  • needs more mullet

  • juts look at the damn fuckin' gear this guy has to play with

  • I doubt if Pink Floyd has more 'soul' than Dream Theater or anything likely. They're both extremely talented, creative, innovative and amazing bands. I just listen and enjoy both very much.

  • -vegeta, what do your scouter says about his music level

    -its over 9000!!!

-i was specting that, and what says about the price of the instrument

    -its over 3000!!!!!!

    -what 3000!?!?!

  • This is sort of Instrument Beethoven, JS Bach and many other classical musicians would have had wet dreams about.

  • imagine if Pink Floyd had this instrument :)

  • @shadzudh

I definitly think, that Dream Theater are much more virtuos, then Pink Floyd, so it is in best hands..

I do not want you to missunderstand me, Pink Floyd are great, but this belongs to new Progressive music, I think..

  • @ShinzoKikuta DT are better musicians, but only have half the soul of PF

  • @ndgambella

I think both are great Bands, which are difficult to compare.. I am big Fan of DT, but I think everyone has to choose his own favorit or to listen to everything that is great music..

    Greetings

  • @ShinzoKikuta in parts i agree.. but the feeling that david gilmour possesses is so utterly brilliant that I am sure it would sound great... an example: the song Marooned, with this instrumet, my god how great it would have been..

  • @shadzudh Yeah, but David Gilmour wouldn't be playing the continuum, so that what you're saying doesn't really make alot of sense. I love Gilmour, btw. My fave musician but he was a guitarist with a great style sound-wise but not a virtuoso. No one in PF was. They were and are amazing, all the same, though.

  • @shadzudh Yeah, but Rudess is a better, more versatile keyboard player than Rick Wright. It seems to suit his style more.

  • Make that 40

  • 39 people are deaf.

  • i was listening dream theater, then the first thing i found searching the continuum is jordan rudess

  • Get ready for sticker shock. The full size Continuum runs over $5000, and the half version (which Jordan is playing) is just under $4000. You can bet Jordan is endorsed by Haken (oh and Korg!)

  • Why is this in the comedy category? :(

  • @NakedDeluxe94 Because it's so awesome that makes you laugh (and then cry) out of happiness.

  • omg what i could do with this thing but omg 5grand and i'd want the full size one ofc

  • @bensurex really?i didn't knew it man...thanks :)

  • NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Such a great controller! Well-played, and nice shirt!

  • I love jordan *-*

  • fretless keyboards...NICE!

  • Wow, great instrument!!! Want one!!!

  • Amazing instrument.........

  • That thing is fucking amazing. But Jordan is MORE amazing.

  • Wow! It's a ribbon-controller on steroids!

  • Wicked.

  • The price is a bit over $5k... without the stand and accessories.

This is not just a controller, it is a real instrument that requires loads of practice.

  • what is the price of this thing?

  • jordan rudess never seizes to deliver a cliche 80's keyboard solo.

  • wow is that a cow bell for a snare?

  • i can never tell for sure whether it's John or Jordan.

  • i find that dream theater currently control the world, and the death rates.

  • Octavarium

  • If I owned one of those I would be playing Steve Hackett solos all day long!

  • I wonder what Pink Floyd would have done with this thing...

  • Almost nothing :-)

  • @ORIONPOISON then you havent listened to pink floyd's music

  • i so badly want a full version of this song,, awesome melody!! :) esp when the beats start!!

  • Snore... with cheeze.

  • What a tone!

  • i like his yes shirt, he must like rick wakeman hehe

  • Why have I not heard of this device?

  • Oh yeah finger that board

  • I know the guy who made this!!! no joke

  • He has to be smart.

  • Jordan Rudess is the only guy who handles this with an interesting sound and style. The best keyboardist ever.

  • Rudess has got to be the best keyboardist of all time. I guess the continuum is not a common instrument. It doesn't matter, I bet you could give him a xylophone and he could still cause earthquakes in other countries from his awesomeness.

  • Instantly sounds like Octavarium

  • not liking the delay

  • Those nobs behind him controlls the rate of people dying and how fast the earth spins

  • @sigge951 all he needs to do is go into world domination mode by playing 180 billion notes per second

  • @sigge951 haha. nice petrucci psycho lessons reference

  • @KaslarProductions :D:D:D

  • @sigge951 thats john petrucci idiot

  • @mikecuzins your mom

  • @sigge951 you are so f****** right

  • @sigge951 I have a set of knobs like that at home. No one ever told me I could do all that with them. Stupid me here I thought it was just a synthesizer all these years. That's what I get for not reading the manual.

  • @poorwilly00 maybe if you didn't have so many penises shoved up your bum, you would have figured it out.

  • @johnnyanoodle Oh ok,, This is UK dark humor, I thought you were pissed because I have a modular. I always find it best to shove gold bars up there. Much better use of the space.

  • @sigge951 Or a huge modular synthesizer. It more or less shapes a sound. Put in a stock synth buzz, get a sexy anything.

  • Comment removed

  • @ChillinCherokee But improvs are still music.

  • hey i was wondering. could you use a continuum as a controller with the korg kaossilator pro?

  • What Much?

  • imagine richard wright with one of these R.I.P.

  • Did he use that in octavarium ?

  • @1dew indeed he did lol

  • @1dew Yes he did

  • the fingerboard is perfect for cheesy 80's power ballads.

  • eugghhh! wankery hell.....

  • oh Jordan - you're the best~ now stop showing off already :-)

  • I love his tshirt

  • Call me a sceptic, but its probably more like a steel guitar (bigger range though)

This sounds like s Steve Howe solo!!

Oh and yeah, Rick Wakeman dor Joe Zawinul are the ultimate keymen...we wouldn't have half the keyboards that exist today...or midi!

  • ha this dyude

    `

  • fuck! beatiful how much is that fingerboard?

  • @laconchatu

    Full size: $5,290

    Half size: $3,390

  • pura vida!!!!

  • Good Lord!!! I want that fingerboard!!!!

  • look at the moog behind him! OMG

  • Comment removed

  • i no better ronald jenkees search him

  • @MrGiomig jenkees is great, but seriously???? comparing him to rudess???? dude! apparently you have never even heard dream theater........

  • He has a Moog in his room! Damn, I am jealous ...

  • I want that Yes t-shirt!

  • is that kieth emersons keybord in the background???????

  • Well you have A R RAHMAN

  • I could listen to this forever

  • Reminds me of some psychadelic slide for guitar

  • :O <3 Where do I buy one !?!?!?!

  • @UPSID3downPRODUCTION hakken website, but they are $3000, and $5000 for the full size, and you need a nice synth to run it through via midi, haha

  • Holy crap.....that is a really cool instrument, lol. It also helps that the guy playing it is such a badass.

  • His setup looks like something from an old sci-fi

  • Man i'd like soooooo much to have that in my house

  • He's one of the baddest there are! Chris Codish from Detroit's no slouch either though!

  • It kinda reminds me of donkey kong country

  • I'm pretty shure that thing can be turned into an iPhone app.

  • @Andrexthor Volume is modulated based on the pressure applied by the player.

  • My God. I wish Jimi Hendrix was alive! He would rip this thing apart, f***ing awesome !!

  • nothing special

  • Some of this sounds like the Count of Tuscany.

  • this video is from 2005...wow, very old

  • the distortion makes the sound messy.

  • Steve Howe would call this thing SACRILEGE! (actually, he probably has one...)

  • dumb question. what is that mammoth thing behind him. also how can you figure out what pitch you are on. atleast on a piano you know what note you are playing.

  • @bmstylee My guess is that the thing behind him is a analog modular synth. The pitch question is an answer I'd like to know as well

  • @RedRavenRuler You use your ears

  • @Pied777 That works when you already have a note pressed, but what if you have your main beat going and you wanna do a solo with a synth sound and you need to be in key, how do you know which note to start on and be in key, unless there's a slight layout of a keyboard printed lightly on it i dont see how you'd know

  • @RedRavenRuler You need rudess's awesomeness

  • @RedRavenRuler There is a keyboard layout, but the 'black' and 'white' keys are the same length with the sharps being thinner. Then again, it is perfect for sliding notes, so that may be for the better.

  • @bmstylee I saw a video where Rudess was explaining how it worked, and I think I saw that there was a tiny set of keys at the edge of the board closest to Rudess, and I think there are markings for the pitches. Either that or you need to perfect pitch to play that thing.

  • true, but they already had a solution for this, the newer version of the continuum now have black bars just like a piano with ebonies. You can now determine whole-steps from semitones.

oh, that big circuit board in jordan's back?

that's a rendered synth, i have seen lives where he used it, he used it on an Octavarium live, he plays the song's synth solo with it.

  • is it basically a big touch pad?

  • It depends what you mean by "basically a big touch pad". It is basically a big touch pad in the same way that MIDI keybaords are basically a bank of velocity-sensitive switches. But like there are important differences in how MIDI keybaords operate and feel, there are many details about the feel and operation of this "touch pad" that make it special.

  • @LippoldHaken Yeah, I was just wondering because it seems like there should be more controllers similar to this.

  • these things look so kool. i would have plenty of fun just makin random noises. lol

  • Fingerboard is soo great :) i played it some month ago :) its so a insane feeling :)

    amazing

  • Quote from deathrape 'endless repetition is boring' ... please tell me someone else notices the irony here

  • holy shit! this deathrape guy is STILL going on.. he REALLY must have no life. I even tried to talk to this guy without starting an argument. I asked nicely what music he found good or w/e, and all I got back was personal attacks.. oh well.. it was a nice listen a few months later as well.

  • wow, sad isnt it

  • i thought the beginning of the song "octavarium" was a guitar, but without a doubt it was jordan on this instrument.

  • Hi, what would be the cost for it? how to buy.. I am from India..Interested..

  • Rudess got a Haken Continuum wow!!! Excellent control on this. Its definately not as easy as it looks!!!

  • Can you please let me know if you are aware of a cheaper version of this marvel?

  • All I know is that its hand made by Haken himself. $5k each.

  • hahaha, the intro and outro made me laugh. Also the part with jordan ruddess, I couldnt take my eyes or ears off of it. He's the wizard :P

  • Yes ftw

  • good job......

  • rudess is the best keyman, if u know better pls tell me :3, but i doubt

  • I don't disagree at all, Rudess is my favorite man, BUT I guess Rick Wakeman can match up with him ;)

  • i don't know if he is better than rudess but definitely he is a god, 'i'm talking about Vitalij Kuprij

  • @MsFikou Don't forget Jon Lord :)

  • @MsFikou I tell you, sure, its called "Rick Wakeman"

  • @MsFikou I love richard wakeman. Also derek sherinian(formerly of dream theater)

    Timothy

    ;o)

  • @MsFikou jean michel jarre

  • @MsFikou chuck norris

  • @MsFikou Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson

  • @MsFikou ehm.. Jean michel jarre

  • @MsFikou Chick Corea Dude. If you like Dream theater, then check out his band return to forever

  • @MsFikou yanni the best!

  • @MsFikou Hiromi Uehara is better in other aspects imo.

  • @MsFikou Best? In what way?

  • @MsFikou Not better, but as good! Vitalij Kuprij, look up "Some Serious Shred(2008) it takes a minute to get into it, but he goes insane!

  • qu sonido !! es espectacular el ambiente qu se crea con este instrumento y obviamnete con el talento de Rudess!! (Y)

  • Hell I need this machine!

  • WHere can you get one of these?

  • i think you need to order it from a special web site (Haken Audion). dude I want one too, but have seen the price of this beauty? its massive!!! $5290. If you like this, you will love this-- Hoedown-- Emerson, lake & palmer. thats some real music. ( as well as dream theater)

  • the half size is only 3390 i think. u would have to plug it into a synthesizer to produce this sound. Haken Audio doesnt even know how Jordan produced this sound. Im thinking about getting one.

  • @drewricomakeubu1 Likely he runs smooth synth tones thru' distortion. It's a typical way 2 get flashy keyboard leads.

  • @drewricomakeubu1 he uses a roland Vsynth XT i believe

  • the makers of the continuum dont even know how he produces hat sound.

  • @brainkiller512 $5k+? that is absolutely ABSURD! U could get one made FROM SCRATCH by an electrical engineer 4 less than that.

Seriously, think about it - if U read up on it and built one YOURSELF from SCRATCH would cost about 1/10 that - literally. Hell U could go 1 better & get yourself a big touch-screen LCD 4 less, & use software 2 configure the zones however U like! =D

$5k is absolute nonsense - what a ripoff.

  • good point dude, AND besides you can get your favorite color on it. (green structure with blue keys).

It would still be expensive to make it, but not as much as 5k. I think, finding the right guy for this job will be difficult, you will need someone with a lot of experience and with skill handling electrical apparatus.

I read your comment on Jordan Rudess, I do like his music, maybe you should see this guy playing, Keith emerson, from Emerson, lake & palmer. Great band

  • @brainkiller512 1 way 2 get something very similar 2 the haiken is a multi-touch touch screen LCD & assign volume along the 'vertical' plane, and then U can pan between sounds with a foot pedal or 2 =) This would B very simple 2 do, & can play a variety of software, & also not require N E custom building. It would also B MORE flexible than the Haiken.

  • @brainkiller512 It just hit me what machines like this R. Nobody actually buys them 2 actually use them. They just 'invest' in them as 'studio ornaments'. Studio is 'equipment rental' business. The more expensive heavily promoted meaningless useless unnecessary 'toys' U got, the more U can charge =) That & of course U must pack the hole with himeys top 2 bottom if U expect HollyWeird 2 come calling. Maybe use a hammer & sicle as your logo 4 good measure.

  • @brainkiller512 Rick Wakeman( from Yes) is in my opinion better than Emerson but different playing styles, Rudess has been influenced a lot by both i expect

  • @drewricomakeubu1 U don't want 1. Some dood says they cost over $5k - ridiculous.

  • @Deathrape2001 the full size continuum is but the half size is more around 3k but it doesnt produce sounds by itself so youd need a rack mount synthesizer with the continuum as controller, i'd go for moog voyager rack mount which would mean overall would cost much more than 5k

  • @Deathrape2001 well i see what you mean, thing is when your a professional you can afford to spend loads on random keyboard things you don't need. i wouldn't bother with the whole pc and virtual keyboard thing, i think that the real things look better and are better partly just because it is the original product. 3k and i could have less but really awesome keyboards but either way continuum is simply an interesting toy for keyboard players who have lot of money to mess with. p.s. analogue ftw

  • Octavarium... The first thing that comes in to my mind.

  • @majide09 Wonder why that is ;)

  • @clarencepogi, is there some way you can ban these two guys (deathrape and darktangent) from posting comments on this video?

  • @Tbannu Look at it in this way. At least while their in here fighting they want be wasting bandwidth elsewhere. See there is always a silver lining.

  • @Booger6995 There is no fight, just trolls like YOU trolling their trollspeak attacking people who post obvious, simple factual comments =)

  • @Deathrape2001 BWAHAHAHA. Thanks I needed a good laugh.

  • Bwahaha. Man I love it when idiots get to polay with mommies computer. Always up for a good laugh. You do entertain.
