  • 7:10 EPIC GONG-NESS!!!!!

  • Maynard is the only singer (I've heard so far) that can strecth his voice to the maximum, he can vary it depending on song, message and mood, but even if it sounds a bit different, you know it's his voice. Now that's a real singer.

And the rest of the band is fucking awesome as well.

    Spiral out.

  • This is like having an orgasm!

  • Ive come to the conclusion that the best shroom trip EVER would be at a Tool concert

  • @Bballah323 agreed brother, actually when listening to any metal, imo acid is way better, metal tends to scare me when im trippin on mush.

  • Awesome performance...I love Tool and this song, wish I'd been there :D...

  • His vocals are insanely good live as well as in the studio.

  • This was 5 months after I saw them in Milan, Italy for the the first time. One year later I'd be watching them in Salt Lake City, Utah.

  • háha_lëÙtê_sùcht_mál_NÁch:_olikohle_ÂÛf_gõÓgle_vØll_geÏl

  • wish i could have been there.

  • Maynard. You are the prophet, saint, leader, whatever you want to call it, of our generation.

  • tool ..yeah

  • I am sooooo glad austrians don't sing along and ruin a concert like all the US dudes :)

  • @GuidoGallenkamp Everyone experiences music in different ways.

  • @GuidoGallenkamp that's because singing in english is even harder than speaking it if it isn't your first language. Otherwise they would sing along too.

  • @jboogey101676 I actually disagree. I think singing in English is easier than speaking English. I'm Dutch, by the way.

  • nardsmay tha bass

  • embrace my desire to feel the rythm, to feel connected

  • naerdos tha mayne

  • Fuck anyone who doesn't like this song. It is a story of feelings strung together by sounds and accompanied by words. Most accurately described as art. This song was the first song i heard by tool, and i have been hooked ever since.

  • Tool is the my favorite band by far. And the best part is that all the band members are humble and don't have huge ego's like most rock stars these days.

  • @Onlinejaguar hahaha have you seen any of maynards interviews?

  • ive got a better quality version of this video on my channel if anyone's interested?

    VISIT FOR TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

  • Danny Carey is the shit, Alot of dudes cant even hold his drum stick let alone play on that set.

  • Comment removed

  • this is what you get when you put 4 mathematical geniousis in a band and give them some drugs :)

i would do some baaaaad things to see them live

    cheers from croatia !!!

  • Oh man, I remember when I first heard this song.. I was like, wtf, modern day art?

  • Oh man, I am so high right now. I have no clue what's goin' on..

  • man listen to their songs high everytime and man does it sound coooooooool

  • this song is too good to even masturbate too

  • "Incorporates the Fibonacci sequence. The syllables of the lyrics follow the pattern, the time signature of the chorus rotates between 9/8, 8/8, and 7/8 time, referring to the 17th Fibonacci number, 987. The lyrics "spiral out", refers to the Fibonacci spiral, which is formed arranging squares for each number in the sequence's 1,1,2,3,5,8 pattern, and drawing a curve that connects to two corners of each square. This would, allowed to continue onwards, creating an infinitely-expanding spiral."

  • i love tool, and maynard, but he sounds like shit here...

  • @cashmerestaten this is also five years after he originally sang it. that's why 10,000 Days, while awesome, was not Maynard's best work. Lateralus weakened his voice.

  • @cashmerestaten not every performance can be kickass.

  • With my feet upon the ground i move myself between the sounds & open wide to suck it in. I feel it move across my skin. I'm reaching up & reaching out. I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me. What ever will bewilder me. & following our will & wind we may just go where no one's been. We'll ride the spiral to the end & may just go where no one's been. Spiral out. keep going. Spiral out. keep going. Spiral out. keep going. Spiral out. keep going.
  • tightest, heaviest band I've ever known... this shit makes me want to get p in the morning

  • just my opinion, but this song always sounds even more awesome live.

  • They always outdo themselves every time at the ending of this song!

  • Hrmmm odd, I don't know why the band didn't play like it's studio version, I know they are one of the few bands that actually sound as real as they do in studio, maybe they were trying to avoid being called on playing to a track.

It's still incredibly awesome, I'm just curious, and that's just an assumption, most ignorant people who think that a band that actually sounds good live, must be playing to a track.

  • @AmrasTalarom it's an experience. what i love about a tool concert is the acknowledge the flow of time, the moment, and they ride that flow. the songs may be written but the feel carries it differently every time.

  • "spiral out, spiral out, spiral out....." epic!!

  • I was blaring this song over and over again the first time i ate mushrooms. I've never been the same.

  • @GodHatesPortugal Lmao, nice trolling fail.

  • heh i was drunk drinking jager bombs in a hostel in prague... travelling buddy comes in and says "tools playing tomorrow night!!" bought tickets online, picked up the next day, they played directly across the hostel.... good times.... good times.. he wore a cowoy hat like kylie minogue rockin his hips away... epic gig

  • @balkans01 ahaha, i saw them on 9/11 about 3 or 4 years ago in Houston and maynard was doin that exact same shit with a cowboy hat and rockin his hips like that..funny as hell. Best show i've ever been to and still has an impact on me to this day.

  • This is one song I don't think they should've sped up.

  • @jofus2019 Wasn't intentional. The natural tendancy performing live is to speed the song up. Just the way it goes

  • Could Danny's toms sound any better, mmm tuning.

  • People need to stop giving a fuck. Life is like a movie. Your soul is sitting in front of some tv screen, and it's been so long you've forgotten there is something outside of this tv screen, so you think you are a part of it, you think you can make choices, you think you have free will. you don't. you're just watching tv, nothing matters for you. Just like when people get choked up at sad movies, they start to relate. now try that for a lifetime. welcome to the universe. be happy.

  • @4v3ng3d if we do not have free will then your comment would have never been posted, or mine, or anyone's.

  • @acesonfire or do the things you've experienced (seen, heard, touched, tasted, smelled) dictate how you feel, how you think, and how you act? its the butterfly effect, mister. as far as we know (<- and thats a big as far as we know, a big "if") its a scientific law that you cannot escape from.

  • @acesonfire or another thing to consider is yourself. however long ago, your mother's egg and your father's sperm collided, and an entire life full of every emotion spiraled from that microscopic collision.

  • @4v3ng3d <3

  • WOW. Oh my god this song with all the visuals and everything just absorbs your mind and puts you on an adventure. What an experience.

  • the 25 people that dislike this can suck a dick

  • @iDeathFromAbove Best Answer EVER!! hahahahaha

  • @iDeathFromAbove yeah no shit, who the fuck are these 25 ass munchers.

  • @iDeathFromAbove they're probably not alive anymore

  • epic a fucking hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no mames cabron que puta rolonona culeros.. chinguen a su puta madre al que no entinda el perro significado de esta chingoneria.. maynard chinga tu puta madre cabron.. de carino pendejo!!

  • Music wound't be the same without Tool.

  • solos sound a bit low in this video :(

  • he always at a funny twist to the lateralus solos live

  • imagine this while on acid!! WOW MIND TRIP

  • @MrScue Lol, mind trip of a lifetime. I went and saw them live after putting away about 5 hits...i dont even think i blinked a single time during the entire show.

  • nunwär echt cool wenn jemand mich vor meinen einsamen dasein retten würde

  • The syllables in the verses follow the fibonacci sequence:

    1 red

    1 and

    2 white are

    3 all i see

    5 in my infancy

8 red and yellow then came to be

    (then it reverses)

    5 reaching out to me

    3 lets me see

  • @multiwebinc you might want to get the lyrics right if you are going to analyze them

  • @ElvisAndrus haha yeah you're right. oops

  • @multiwebinc so do you even know what the fibonacci sequence is or do you just post random trivia from wikipedia?

  • @LazyRWT uhh.... the first option.

  • This is by far the best Lateralus vid i've seen yet.

  • I fuckin' love this song. Saw em in Montreal in 07 and this song was the best part of the show.

The camera shot in this vid at 4:00 was the best...shoulda kept it there the whole time...Tool puts on a show to be seen on the whole, not close ups on them.

  • It's one of the most addictive bands I have ever heard... my brother (2 years younger than me) was the first to get keen on them, than he started my fever on them...

  • 7:12 ???

  • Maynard rocks dancing!

  • I was somewhere in the first row. Probably the happiest two hours of my life

  • @beinful i almost envy you, you´re so lucky, i´m from mexico and they have never given a concert here, and i guess they never will, it is so sad for me to know that...

  • @mariokesada They play in the southern United States all the time. I missed the last time they came to Canada. I was pretty pissed.

  • *wipes tears from eyes*

  • happens to me too everytime i hear MJK's voice

  • Looks like a bad ass show, whish I was there! :(

  • tool, pink floyd and rush are the three bands that have the coolest live shows out of any other band no matter if you like the band or not you gotta admit all three of thos bands are amazing live

  • I agree 100%!!

  • Thats exactly what i telll all my friends exact same words and exact same three bands

  • @tap22 thats because is so true

  • @Jackstock500 phish has an excelent live show too !

  • they have one of the best live shows i love this band

  • I was there!! Nice memories... they are still the best!!

  • epic

  • yes that`s right

  • So in the end of lateralus..in this vid it occurs at 7:10..they have been known to add an orchesteral part on top of the melody usually in a higher octave that sends this part into overdrive...if you know what I'm referring to do you know a live vid that contains this? everytime I've witnessed it live it's brought out an extreme emotional moment and sent tears down my face for minutes after and would love to hear it again...

  • Definitely a little fast... but always a great song live. Also, I imagine it's as fun for them to play as it is for me.

  • sped way up from the album version. Still bad ass. Danny Carey is a beast!

  • beautiful. listening to this song every once in a while keeps me sane.

  • Me too!

  • @jambi1983 right.

  • @jambi1983

    Same here brother.

  • fuck yesssss man :D

  • i wonder since the name for this was 987 if they woulda called the album schisim

  • fuckin amazing

  • when i sleep, all i see are spirals, could i be looking into the universe, or is the mindinside my mind the universe itself?

  • how do u see in your sleep,

  • Thanks, now you got me thinking about that.

  • i love tool ive always been a fan of these 4 amazying people, ive seen them once i only went for this song,i chanted a dance in celebration of life and celebration of this sacred music and celebration of this sacred life as a human, thats what tool is to me,very sacret art, also alex gray is very sacrament along with the insight with our spiritual beings most above all the piller of sacredness,we are all so divine beyond and so far from, being powerless and epic, this universe fucking rocks,

  • i always have to listen to this song by myself because i don't want to lose it in front of other and embarass myself thats how much i love it

  • same here man! i fucking cried when they played this live! IT WAS SOOOO EPIC!!!!

  • Oh man I know! This a personal song for me too, I wouldn't wanna play it in the car with my buddies anyway...I wanna focus on the song when it's on, not talk over it. And if it is on, you better believe I'm gonna be headbanging and slapping the wheel dammit.

  • No band right now as organic...as true, or as questioning!!! Awesome, beautiful- they'll always be such an inspiration!!!

  • hahaha

    fucking maynard trips

    me out hahaha

  • Awesome, but they played it too fast.

  • it' their song, so they play it as they like

  • this song sounded awesome at their NH show...best rock band alive...no doubt about it anymore

  • such an awesome composition and the incorporation of fibonacci sequence into music is an art....tool totally rocks...happy trip!!!!

  • Going to see this live in a little less than 48 hours (Manchester, NH)

  • man i think this song is way better live:)

  • is it just me or is this alot faster than they usually play?

  • The graphics are the most awe inspireing things that I have seen. I was blown away when I saw them.

  • These people are trolling you. If you love Tool's music - and I do - who gives a shit what someone else thinks about it? If I was the only person on the planet that loved this music, I would still love it.

Troll away. Fuck off, I don't care. If you let every random internet stranger that you come across bother you, you're going to enjoy life a lot less.

  • Tool is amazing. Great performance

  • Danny Carey = best unique awsome drummer ever.

  • HOLY SHIT!!!

I can't comprehend how outstandingly powerful this band is. I need just one date somewhere in the north west hemisphere on this tour.

I live in Edmonton AB, but anywhere within, say a three hour plane ride and I'm there.

  • yeah i believe maynard still tripps. thats what this song is, i think its about his first tripp. in which he may have felt re-born and i feel that. Its like gaining consciousness. and he says ride the spiral till the end, and im gonna guess he still is. though it took some time to get out of the undertow days, i believe; maynard is one of the most spiritual people on the planet, along with everyone else in the band.

  • Its actually about the Fibonacci sequence, and when you study this song in its entirety it's really quite interesting and has an amazing effect on you.

  • Its about the Fibonacci Scale, Its too Complex to explain so i'll leave it at that. But Maynard never really says what his songs are about so it could be anything

  • theres a book, that says what tool songs are about. Lateralus is about, exploring life as if it wasnt human.
