It's a simple pond pump from Lowe's. I believe it's a 500 gallon per hour model. At the end of the video you can see all the items that make up my kit.
Great video Steve! Good clear and straightforward instructions. We bought a home with the noritz TWH already installed and the label has been washed by the sun so I am unable to determine my model number. Is there a secondary way to get this info?
You can always call Noritz Tech Support and they can talk you through it. If it's sun bleached, I assume it's an outdoor model of some sort. Can you see the S/N? It will usually start with the year it was manufactured (i.e., 2006 000006772 etc).
@Essanaye Thanks for the reply. The SN is washed out as well. The nice people at Noritz couldn't really help without any numbers. Thanks again for the video- keep making more, your a natural teacher and a great resource for the DIY homeowner!
As I mentioned in the video, I don't recommend CLR because it isn't food grade. Here in the Pacific Northwest, we have excellent water quality and therefore distilled white vinegar is fine for the task. If you live in an area where water quality is poor, then you may want to use that product. If I were to use CLR, I would make sure and flush the water heater for at least 5 minutes after the descaling is completed and BEFORE you put the heater back in service.
Great, thorough instructions. Thank you for the important detail about keeping the unit ON considering everyone else says to turn it off. This is YouTube is all about!!
You're the only one I found that said to leave the unit powered on. I just had a class on Noritz and they said power needs to stay on and just gas off so that the bypass valve in the unit opens up so you flush the complete system.
awesome tutorial. just wanted to say thanks steve. I am a second year plumbers apprentice down here in california, and I totally used your video with great success.. again thanks for being so clear about everything..
Hey Steve, what type of pump are you using in this video?

How about running CLR through the flushing process, then clean water afterwards to flush out the CLR?
