  • This is so wonderful where Alan Spaulding and Mike Bauer spar. I'm especially glad they mention Hope, the true love of Alan's life who he couldn't protect from his family's dark legacy and his own ruthless ambitions.

  • if they still had writing like this guiding light would still be on today.i think it went downhill a few years ago when they had those weird wednesday plots.but it was and still is my favorite.miss this show.still catch my self setting the time on my dvr to record it,then i remember it is no more, damb cbs.

  • The chilliness between Alan/Mike was perfect, all that history there. GL will never be like that again sad to say. :(

  • Don't you notice that Alan & Alex were the only ones at the Ball without a date. That must have been a lonely feeling.

  • At least they mentioned Hope. I wish she would move back to Springfield!

  • I miss Don Stewart and Michael Zaslow. Roger Thorpe was such a great villain.

  • Don Stewart passed away in 2006, so, unless he did another cameo later, this must have been his final appearance. It's odd to see him here with the "new" younger Alan. I remember when Mike and Alan (Chris Bernau) were the same age!

  • @OceanKingNY I don't think he did return. I kept hoping he'd be back after this, but he didn't. I think he would have been especially effective in the Manny story. He does rate one more story reference when Jeffery O'Neill forces Danny to go undercover with another mob family and Robbie (Michelle and Danny's son) and for some stupid reason Leah (Rick's daughter) are sent to stay with Mike in Washington, D.C. for protection.

  • So far. Amazing how Don was able to refer to the old Alan/Hope storyline from 18yrs earlier.

  • @parisscott I think this was a critical scene because even though later writers like to suggest Alan's life revolved around Annie, I think it was his experience with Hope and his actions ended up destroying her that inform a big share of Alan's experiences for the rest of his life. That's really what they should have used as a problem Alan had to face in the end instead of that stupid made up draft dodging story.

  • @Robansuefarm You know what would have been heavier. If Mike Bauer had said that he knows Sid Dickerson and how well he's doing. He teaches part time at Howard University, he's a Member of The Black Caucus and he's a force to be reckoned with in Washington's Black Community. That would have been a Slap in the face considering how he never treated Vicky Brandon like Family.

  • Was this Don Stewart's final appearance as Mike Bauer?
