  • Dazzling mechanics....plus this guy had breakaway speed as a running QB in hs and college before the injuries. He was a phenomenal talent

  • This guy threw more picks than tds

  • @tamzokes You're right. Joe Namath threw more picks than touchdowns. You're absolutely right.

But, to come to Joe's defense, back in the 50s, 60, 70s, quarterbacks, in general, threw more picks than quarterbacks do today.

Take Terry Bradshaw as an example. Bradshaw's TD-INT ratio was 212-210. Terry Bradshaw, 4 -time Super Bowl champion, and 2-time NFL MVP, threw an interception for every touchdown he threw.

Since the 80s, the game has opened up on offense, allowing for fewer INTs.

  • Sanchez wishes he were 1/4 Joe Namath!!

  • anyone who thinks joe was an over rated qb by looking at his stats doesn't understand football or it's evolution. all they're doing is displaying their ignorance.

he isn't in the hall of fame by mistake.

  • i think Madden knows a thing or two about qb's he head one from Bama too !

  • roll tide , nobody threw like Joe , most of the time he was taking a beating and his recievers were being assaulted !

  • My favorite quarterback of all time. I'm from Drew Brees country and he is good but to me, Joe was the best.

  • all everyone cares about is stats now just stfu he was a good qb thats all you need to know.

  • He was the greatest. Forget about QB ratings. He filled stadiums. The first Monday Night Football Game on ABC was Jets at Cleveland. No accident! It was the star power. You don't find that in QB ratings! Once, he threw 496 against the Colts (Baltimore) on 15 pass completions! I was at the game in which he came back after 19 straight games. The Jets without him was a lethargic. Once in to the game, the offense was like a racehorse. He almost won the game. And of course the Super Bowl!

  • Joe Namath loves to throw INTS his all time QB rat is 65.5 thats bad he threw 220 ints i would have beat the shit out of him if i was the coach!!!

  • my fav qb of all time,,,and then Montana

  • i wanna kiss him

  • I saw his entire career. He was the greatest bad knees and all. Credit weeb for building an offensive line to protect him.

He could throw off the back foot 35-40 yards down field.

Saw one game on tv against the Colts (Baltimore) where he threw 496 yards on 15 completions. (two of the passes were back to back 80 bombs!)

He filled up stadiums. Period. I doubt we'll see another one like him in my lifetime.

  • Roll Tide!

  • grestest jet ever

  • Guaranteed a victory inSB3,AFL was laughed at back then, his bad knees hastened his retirement, watched him pass for over 400yds, in a losing effort on Monday Night. quickest release among QB,s in his day.Dual -personality gemini Joe, one minute in the spotlight ,next avoiding all media and fellow players, brooding alone in the corner of the locker room. Weeb Ewbank, how can you ever forget that coaches name.Unitas was finally put in the fourth, for Colts only TD. Namath never threw a pass in 4th.

  • Starting at 2:10 That has to be Namath's most perfect TD pass. The drop back, the pass itself, not too high not to low, spiral..........anh oh yes.Perfectly placed.

  • My favorite QB of alltime

  • 26marbay: Check your facts before you talk.........Sammy Baugh, Bobby Layne, Norm Van Brocklin, George Blanda, YA Tittle are all HOF QB's and all have more INT's than TD's!! Before his knees gave out for about 5-6 years he was truly great. Once his legs gave out he thru a ton of INT's in the last 5-6 years of his career because he could no longer move. Still one of the alltime greats!!!!

  • 40 yards n a cloud of dust.....!!!

What a guy ......sure got us ladies interested in Monday night football...;-))

  • Joe was the Greatest !

  • Joe Namath had it all.

He knew he was IT back then, but he backed it up.

His style took football into a new age.

    Joe made cool, well, cool.

Very few players can say they changed the game.

    Joe Namath changed the game.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • this was back when football players were real men. These punks today walk around with ear ring son, and hair going down their back like clowns. They never could have played for Chuck Knox, Tom Landry, or Bear Bryant looking like girls.

  • Only QB to win the superbowl for the AFL.

  • @calimar28 close but no cigar..............Len Dawson won SBIV for the Chiefs over the Vikings 23-7 in the final game for the AFL before the merger.

  • namath to moss

  • ...very hip, lotsa heart and lotsa lip. a swingin' ladies man who has a ball. but put a football in his hand and right away you'll understand why broadway joe's the greatest of them all. he's a hero, he's a pro. he's that mr. somethin' else that broadway joe. he's a groovy kinda guy. he can put a football through a needle's eye.what a feeling, what a sight, when we see that #12 in green and white. 1-2-3 yep! go-go-go. no one else can throw like broadway joe!!!!!!!

  • it wud b cool if namath and curtis martin played in the same team..

  • The stats do not tell the story. Listen to Davis, Madden and Walsh... What better endorsement could you have. Pure quarterback, perfect technique-- no illegal contact rule back then.

  • THE GOAT!

  • Broadway Joe Baby!!

  • If anyone sees Joe the drunk ask where his daughter is...I need to buy some weed. LOL. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to substance abuse.

  • @MelC54 Now I get it. Your an NFL Fan. Namath kick your ass. You wanted the Mighty Colts to win. This is a real case of jealsousy. Mel you are a Cry Baby. Not only did Namath win the Superbowl, he guaranteed it. CRY BABY!!!!

  • One game. That's all this jerk is remembered for. Go look up his passing statistics. He threw more interceptions than touchdown passes and in the only game he's remembered for, it was a fullback, a placekicker and 5 turnovers that won the game. "I guarentee it" is now his second most famous quote, replaced by "I want to kiss you" LOL

  • @MelC54 @MelC54 @MelC54 @MelC54

Joe Namath was the only QB to win a National Championship and a Superbowl. He was the first QB to throw for over 4000 yds in season (that was not the Superbowl year). He is the is the only QB to throw for over 4000 in a 14 game season and this was during th era of lineman killing the QB and the mauling of receivers.

  • @everest00712 And your point is? Did he ask too kiss you too?

  • imagine him with the current passing rules and the more athletic receivers today

  • Namath was a one of a kind talent...YOU had to be there when he played...the NFL was a different game then and he changed the game...The ESPN/Madden video game generation of today dont know what they are talking about...I guess they are smarter then all the great coaches and players who testify how great he was...all QBs are compared to Namath, he is compared to no one. Just like with Muhammad Ali...you had to be there!

  • My childhood idol..made Sundays in the 60s...THE WONDER YEARS..

Thanks Joe..I hope all is well..

"I Cant Wait Till Tomorrow..cause I get better looking everyday"

  • i agree with this guy b4 me. namath was not that great...he specialized in p.r. stunts...ala brady bunch appearance....yada yada yada. however...he was vital to the game as he broke things open. virtually all qb s at that time looked like they were drill instructors. he changed all that. that in my opinion....is why he was great.

  • @allpro777 youre wrong it was a era of having more interceptions than to touchdowns and he was a great quarterback just look at the highlight. also, if he had the receivers today then he would be great and he has a better release than most QB's today. so he deserves to be in the HOF n he got his ring and fortunately he is in the HOF

  • I always thought Namath and Roger Staubach were the best I've seen, I thought Mike Vick was going to be in that class when I first saw him but boy was I wrong

  • @impassable

Wild statement. Unitas was better than both of those guys, and Namath doesn't even belong being mentioned in the same breath as Staubach or Unitas, lol.

I question if any of you REALLY paid attention to Namath's career, because he was incredibly inconsistent and only had a handful of really memorable games. Most of his career was marked by throwing too many INT's and being injured.

I just love the revisionist history people use for Namath while ignoring the facts and stats.

  • @impassable You are right imapassable. Staubach may have been the greatest comback QB of all time. If not for Namath there probably would not have been an AFL/NFL merger. AllPro777 is one of the guys that thought that the Colts were going to teach him a lesson. They had their chance but Namath easily won that game over a team waht was considered the greatest of all time. AllPro777 is still crying about that day. He is a sore loser.

  • @AllPro77. you don't know what you are talking about. Joe Namath showed everyone how to do it. Emabarrassed Jonny U when they faced each other.

  • @everest00712

You don't know what YOU'RE talking about, and you sound stupid. Unitas was a backup in SB 3 coming in late in the game against a good deficit. Namath showed Unitas nothing. The game was lost before Unitas ever got in the game.

You don't know your NFL history and I'd suggest you study up before flapping your gums.

  • @AllPro777 Oh really, thanks for telling me that Johnny came in late in the game. No kidding!!!! They did face in 1972 for your information and they both had what may be considered their greatest games. Unitas threw for 396 yards and Namath threw for 496 yards and 6 touchdowns. Namath won by 10 points. So study up on your NFL history. By the way there would not have been an AFL NFL merger or Superbowl if not for Namath.

  • Namath was great student of the game. Imagine if he had two good knees.

  • @ C1rob,

LOL. "A great student of the game" who couldn't read a defense to save his life, lol. His TD-INT ratio was disgusting even for his era. He was one of the worst QB's of his era in efficiency. The only ones worse were journeyman who never had any success.

Joe Namath is the most overrated QB of all time.

  • I cant stop watching this video

  • Just a great video. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Joe Namath is unbelieveable. It is great to hear Madden and Walsh talk about him. THere are so many idiots that fight me on how great he was. They think that he was only good for one game. Google "Why Joe Namath is the Greatest Quarterback of all time" my article will come up.

  • @everest00712 Yea Walsh sounds like hes in love lol.

  • Keep in mind that Walsh also had great things like that to say about Jake Plummer and other guys that busted. And Madden has said lots of nonsense over the years. Namath's drop was ugly, and I guess Madden never payed attention to Joe Montana's because his was perfect.

Take away Super Bowl 3, and all you have is an inconsistent QB who threw 173 TD's and *220 INT's*, who couldn't stay healthy and didn't have that many great games when he did. Ever hear what Unitas thought of him? Wasn't good.

  • Super Bowls are the credential. If quarterbacks don't win them they are remembered as the guys who couldn't win the big one.

Plummer was not that bad of a quarterback. I can't believe you would mock both Walsh and Madden. Montana was great yeah, but Namath did all this in 14 games and when defenses killed you. He struggled later because of injuries.

If you don't like Namath, get the hell off the clip.

  • @Coganboy,

I didn't "mock" Walsh or Madden. I stated the things THEY'VE said. Go look it up. They weren't always right.

And you did no damage to my claims. If Namath doesn't win SB 3, we're not talking about him now because his overall body of work was weak. Unitas often spoke ill of him and NEVER respected him as a great QB. Unitas was right. He saw Namath for the imposter he was.

And finally, I can watch and comment on whatever I like. Don't like my comments? Go to hell.

  • Whose ever always right? Nobody. Not even you about Namath, I can say that.

Namath threw for 4000 yards in a 14 game slot before the passing rules were changed to help out receivers. No quarterback ever did that in 14 games, no quarterback ever did that before the new passing rules. That's almost, by itself. enough to show how great a passer Joe Namath was.

And about hell? I'm sorry. It's too hot there and I don't want to join you.

  • @Coganboy Listen AllPro777 is just one of those sore losers that are still crying that the Namath won that game. AllPro777 were salivating thinking that the Colts were going to destroy the Jets. Sorry the Jets won easily. Namath was dying to open up that game but he read the defense so well he did not have to. Don Shula even said that all of the other QBS that year got rattled by the Colt Defense but they could not rattle Namath. Shula said that Namath was too good.

  • And let's not forget the fact that he finished his career with a losing record.

Joe Namath is an historical figure because of the guarantee, the SB 3 win, and what it meant to Pro Football. But a great QB he was not, and he doesn't belong anywhere in the discussion of Unitas, Montana, Elway, or any of the other truly great field generals of the game.

If he doesn't pull off Super Bowl 3, we're not even talking about him right now, because his overall body of work without that is weak.

  • @everest00712 Do you really think Madden and Walsh are going to publicly bash Namath? He played more than one good game in his career, but not many. He played a lot of bad ones throwing 4, 5, or 6 interceptions. His mark on the game is Super Bowl III and even then his numbers were pretty pedestrian. Matt Snell and 5 Baltimore turnovers were the ingredients that won that game.

  • @MelC54 There is a difference between bashing a player and refusing to glorify him. I think it is an error to think that these three mens' praises are insincere.

Look at that spiral, look at the feet, it is blackboard perfect how he passed that ball. I can only imagine what Namath might've done today with the West Coast offense or Air Coryell.

BTW, that Super Bowl? He called the plays in that game, and he was the leader of that team.

  • my gooood , the release!!! it's sooo fucking good.
