  • Very good singing! Thank you! Professor Viktor Dimitrievich Huliganov is great! None of my students sing the way you do! I'm jealous! Спасибо! Сегодня Вы - "мое чудное мгновенье"!

  • Very nice! Very good Russian, I should say.

  • @sfumato77 Thank you! I work hard on my Russian diction. Thank you for noticing.

  • That's wonderful! I mean it.

A few remarks, if you don't mind:

'vdohnovenja' will sound better like [vdah -hna`venja, and bozhestva - like [bah-zhis`tva]

    ljubov - you don't have to pronounce [ j ] after [ l ]. The English [l] is palatal about enough - you can just say [ lu:-bof' ], the same with [mee-ma`lotnahje]

Music is by M.Glinka, words are by A.Pushkin, it's not a folk song.

    [dahsvi`danja]

  • @schetin Thank you for your remarks. I don't mind at all. My goal is to pronounce the words as accurately as possible. I understand that this is difficult as our native accents are hard to overcome. Especially troublesome has been the pronounciation of unstressed vowel 'o'. The natural tendency of English speakers is to render it stressed. Dropping the 'j' sound after the 'l' in ljubov is a new one for me. I think this song form is called a 'romance'. Thanks again.

  • @kenbank

There's an easy rule of reading words in Russian. You can do it yourself: the sound of unstressed syllables will differ depending on the order - the 1st pre-stressed (closest to the stressed) syllable has a strong position, the second - is weak (like shwa in English [u]). The word "molo`ko" (milk) will sound [mu-lah`ko] and only [o] will sound the way it is written. Likewise, horo`sho (well) - [hu-rah`sho]; ko`rova (cow) [kah`ro-vah]. The same is for the vowelsfollowind the stressed.

  • че за гавно?

  • Not bad at all, but you made a mistake... it's: бьётся (bjotsja) and not вьётся (vjotsja)...

  • @etiennegeert Thank you for the correction. I regularly made the mistake between the B and Б. It is an easy mistake to make for native English speakers because the English B is pronounced like the Russian Б and not like the Russian B which is pronounced like the English V. The good news is that while I not perfect, I make this mistake less often now. Thank you for watching!

  • maaan u definitely rock

    keep on it ;)

  • @Positivectrl I intend to do just that. I have another Russian song ready to record. Just have to find the time to do it. :-) Thank you!

  • @Positivectrl Thank you. I will!

  • Wow This is so heartfelt, soulful and quite artistic! Bravo! As to the accent, it's very sweet and I'd even say it's beautiful

  • @thatMikhail Thank you very much. I, too, feel the passion in Pushkin's poem.

  • Bravo! Well done.

  • @mayatatyana1 Thank you!

  • Such an accent.

  • Is that good or bad? I don't know. I must have an accent because I am not a native Russian speaker. My best to you!

  • It's the first time I hear an American speak/sing in Russian. Not bad at all. Wish you best of luck!

  • Вы молодец!) Respect to you

  • Спасибо! Respect back to you, too. Thank you for watching!

  • Очень хорошо! Я всегда поражаюсь, когда иностранцы, не имеющие никакого отношения к России, так ею интересуются. И у вас замечательный, мелодичный голос!

  • Thank you! I appreciate your comment. I am interested in Russia and Russian people,. language and culture. I find it very interesting and exotic. Thank you for watching my video.

  • Thank you. I'm glad you enjoy my accent when I speak Russian. :)

  • Очень классно!=)

Мне так нравится когда с акцентом на русском разговаривают!

  • Заметь однако как поёт, почти без акцента.

  • wonderful voice, and a beautiful song.

  • Thank you! er... Cpaciba!

  • Nice voice.I love accappello.

  • Thank you!

  • beautiful! thanks you made my day.

  • Thanks! I'm happy you liked it.

  • It's interesting that although you are not apparently fluent in Russian and your pronunciation at times made me ponder and wrinkle my forehead, your singing pattern: pauses, stops, accentuation, etc. are somehow quite correct. I wonder if you had some old record, which you copied. In any case it was a great effort.

  • Thank you! Yes, I am not fluent in Russian (yet). That is a long road to travel, but I'm working on it. I do have some trouble with my American accent and it shows through at the most inopportune moments, but I generally get it right. I am not working in a total vacuum as I have native Russian speakers as language coaches and I study style and delivery under the great Russian tenor, Sergey Lemeshev, posthumously via recordings.

  • Why such an interest to specifically singing in Russian? Why not Italian?

  • I'm into Russian right now, that's why. I'm studying the Russian language and since I'm a singer I naturally want to learn to sing Russian songs. The Russians have a wonderful portfolio of music largely unknown to the west. It is well worth exploring. I also do Italian songs. I've posted a couple here on YT. My rendition of Caro Mio Ben is one of my most viewed clips.

  • Great Voice.

  • Thank you very much.

  • Prekrasno!

  • Спасибо!

  • Splendid Dear Sir, as always, you entertain!! Have you listened to the other great tenor, Nicolai Gedda, singing Russian songs on Youtube? Best Wishes.

  • Thank you. I'm checking Nicolai Gedda out. Thanks for the info.

  • fantastic!! really beautiful

  • A very belated Thank You!

  • Великолепный голос! У тебя хороший русский! =)

  • Golos horosh, net slov; no ruskiy, ya b ne skozal.

  • Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the song. I guess you figured out that I'm neither Slavic nor Russian. Good work!

  • Спасибо!

  • bravo!

  • Thank you!

  • Excellent video response!!!

  • I'm pleased that you like it!

  • Krasivo.

  • Sir,,you are to be congratulated on your progress. You are also entertaining and good fun. This was impressive and your goodnatured posts enhance the enjoyment already present in "Huli's" great and altruistic works on here.

  • Thank you, Ivanhoe2. I have been working on my Russian pronunciation and diction. I still have a long way to go. In keeping with the season, my thanks go to Prof. H. His lessons were/are the inspiration, вдохновенья, for me to turn a casual interest into a passion.

  • Wowee! Russian "leider". You don't hear that every day. I need to watch this a few times.

  • No, you don't hear this everyday in the US. It is a great song and there are more like it where this one came from. :)

  • Since the Germans have the "art song" (Leider), what is the equivalent term in Russian?

  • I haven't learned that term yet. I suppose they have one. Mostly they refer to their own ethnic music simply as Russian Folk Music.

  • Great!! I'd love to learn Russian sometime. For now, German is enough to keep me occupied!!

  • Thanks! Russian is challenging, but interesting. I'd love to hear a few German songs from you! :)

  • Wonderful! It's nice to meet you here again. Glinka would be proud of it. Big hugs my friend!

  • Thank you, corronco! It's good to hear from you again, too, my friend. Big hugs back to you!
