But most of those 33 nations you mentioned were actually defeated.However, it is widely known that sooner or later, the Germans would have to fight the Russians. In fact, 80% of German forces during the war was spent fighting the endless waves of Russian soldiers. The original Barborossa plan was to blitzkrieg Russia fast enough that it would not become a war of attrition that Germany would definitely lose.

For your information, the French fought for an entire month in their soil before signing an armistice, and furthermore, they continued resisting in form of the French resistance. Italy on the other hand, defected to the allies right after they heard the allies are planning to invade the mainland.

30 nations against 3? That may be true for Germany and Japan who were often heavily outnumbered, but the Italians? They surrender en masse to forces much smaller than them. Just look at their performance during the West Desert Campaign for example. A full sized Italian army of 150,000 surrendered to an allied Division of 36,000.Even the French gave more struggle than the Italians.The Italian army was a joke. When losing, they just defect to their enemies and betray their allies.

80 percent of all German casaulties were on the Eastern Front. By the time of D-day Germany had fought on the Eastern Front for 3 long years and as far as they were concerned this is where their entire war could be won or lost, and hence they sent most of their men, tanks, trucks and heavy guns there. That is an enormous front.

In fact on D-day there was some 60 odd German divisions in France compared to 250 in the USSR. Which means..

you can forget all about an invasion of Normany in 1944 if the major part of the German wehrmacht wasn't held up in the east trying to hold the massive Red Army back. In fact they were already on the retreat from the Eastern front by 1943 and the turning point came in Stalingrad in early 1943 already with hundreds of thousands of German soldiers trapped.

A simple matter of resources. Hitler admitted this himself to the finnish marshall Mannerheim in 1942 when he was secretly taped.

With plenty of communist movements all over Europe the post war iron curtain would have gone all the way to the English channel. By late 1943 many German generals knew the war couldn't be won anymore knowing they were getting short on men, material and fuel. In the USA the vicepresident Harry Truman even said he believed the Americans should help whatever side was losing of the two. Hitler's original plan was to invade and colonise the USSR and create a German superstate, then to become world leading.

FDR's legacy is mixed.

He was not held to the scrutiny that modern politicians had to endure.

He was bold and resolved during WWII, but he not only imprisoned 100,000 Japanese Americans, he also turned his back on 1,000s of Jews sent by Hitler in 1937 (I believe that was the year.)

I am not going to convince new deal Libs that he was a devil, but the man had flaws and made many errors. The country was left in the dark about them.

Besides Reagan used the Nixon southern strategy just the same to win. Reagan is overrated because his rhetoric doesn't match his record. FDR was a real President to speak well about our objectives in a war, I wish we had him and his voice, today. And with his ailment, he would have either been cured by Jonas Salk's '53 discovery, or lobbied rightly and successfully for stem-cell research. Churchill was also a brilliant war time speaker.
