Written by Johnny Kidd and recorded by Johnny Kidd And The Pirates in 1960 (UK). Later a hit by Canada's "Guess Who" in 1965, although they were still known as Chad Allen And The Expressions at the time.
Zeppelin were DEADLY playing the old covers. Check out How The West was Won!
This band had such a natural feel for playing earlier pop and blues, and it added a massive cohesiveness to their sound as a band. Bands today that try to cop the LZ sound don't have the musical lineage!! Even Sabbath began as a jazz and blues act, so people may far underestimate the sophistication of these seminal bands.
@sanfordsson They never recorded it on tape in the studio sadly. And you are right, the guess who's version is better. I was lucky enough to see them at a charity function a few months ago.
LEARN YOUR MUSIC!! this was written in 1960!! the seed to an incredible amount of music .. do some reading and learning... Shakin' All Over - Johnny Kidd & The Pirates
Led Zeppelin wrote music for the purpose of representing creative blues, but any music they played turned into something else. If this was a sound check then this is a very well done warm up.
Sloppy version, not as good as Vince Taylor's. They musta' been high on drugs. The Guess Who did it better than these guys. The drummer is loud and sloppy on this tune.
Great version. The Who do it well, the Guess Who are even better. Perhaps the "wannabes" comment was meant in jest. Keep the facts in mind: The Who sold 100 million records, had 17 top ten albums, 27 top 40 singles and a successful career for more than 40 years. Not bad for wannabes.

@hypersquared My apologies, at first I did not realize the context of the comment..I guess when it comes to the Who I get super defensive since they are my favorite band of all time...glad to see we share a common interest
This IS led zep, but it's from a soundcheck before a gig, so therefore they were not playing for an audience. in fact, this was not even in the set, they just started jamming through some blues stuff for fun. if they were to do it live it would be epic im sure...
p47paul - you bloody idiot; this is a SOUND CHECK, not a concert!

The Who's version blows Zep's off the planet. Put The Who Live At Leeds version in the text and you will see hear for yourself. No contest.

i wouldn't say the Pirates version is probably marginally better than the Live at Leeds version. Both are pretty magnificent.
Plant sounds good on this sound check version, too.

This isn't a performance. It's a sound check. You are compared a professionally recorded live performance to a piss about sound check.
