I really enjoyed to watch this. Not only for curiositys sake, not only because it is a great thing as a fan to so see this, but also because of some of the things that were talked about and how they were talked about. It really was wonderfull.
The moment close to the end when everyone falls silent because of this and Jonathan starts with the theme to lighten it up again and all join in...that was simply an amazing moment.
There is so much more that I'd want to say, but I stick to this: Thank you
There is NOTHING more epic or hilarious than Jonathan Frakes asking William freaking Shatner, "And were you wild from the beginning?" and Shatner saying, "I'm afraid so" (Deadpan) LMAO
When I was so small I could barely comprehend speech, I remember falling asleep on my father's belly on the couch watching the original series. When I was older, we watched TNG together. The people in this interview literally comprised my childhood and adolescence.
This was awesome, yhanks for uploading! Shame tho that Shatner & his big ego & big mouth couldn't help but interrupt all the time. He had like 2/3 of the show. Would have liked more Stewart & Frakes. TNG rocks.
This was awesome. I love star trek. If I were alone on a deserted island and had to take something meaningful, I would take all 5 star trek complete dvd series.
Kate Mulgrew most definitely should have been included! Kate Mulgrew is a fantastic actress which is why she was chosen to play the "1st" female captain on a Trekkie starship! The pressure of being the very 1st female captain must of been intense for her! Captain Kathryn Janeway did indeed hold down the mighty Captain's chair position for a full 7 years...that action alone is justification enough for her to have had the honor of being included imho.
But, I think it is odd to call it The Captain's Summit and not include Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, and Scott Bacula. I very quickly got over my disappointment at their exclusion and thoroughly enjoyed the show.
"You're lying again! You're lying! Don't do that!" hahahaha.
"He was outnumbered by wild Americans!" baha.
This whole Captain's Summit thing is amazing. In addition to a great laugh (don't worry, Sir Stewart, you definitely ARE ha-ha-funny!) it renews our appreciation for all of what they put into the amazingness that is Star Trek... I am also very appreciative that Goldberg did the interviewing, because someone who didn't know what they were talking about would have been annoying.
@kisakk I would only wish that Mulgrew was in this too. She does very well in this style of interview/conversation. It would have added a fun dynamic to have her in 'with the boys' so to speak. As much as I love DS9 (as my favorite series) Brooks can be a bit 'out there' in interviews.
@kisakk I can't believe that only 37,171 people have watched this. THIS IS MANNA FROM HEAVEN. Deeply satisfying to see actors discuss such seminal inter-connected roles. I was having a glass of red and decided to top it off with 4 more. Rich veins of life / existence such as this don't appear very often to the prospector.
@Anrirua Very well put. What an amazing gathering of wit, intellect and class, they could have continued for hours more and it would still have been truly riveting.
I wish we could get more shows like this for all the other cast members of the various shows too, like getting all the DS9 folks together to share anecdotes, talk about behind the scenes experiences etc.
Very great interview. It is so nice to see how well they all got along and do get along with each other. Great people. It is amazing how cool these actors are. Not just the ones here, but people like Lavar Burton and Brent Spiner as well. They really did a great job casting these people.
That has to be one of the best interviews i have seen no silly stuff no promotions just four people getting together to meet and talk about there time on the most eye conic shows ever made STAR TREK. It was good to finally see the most famous captains and there first officers together ( William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy , Patrick Stewart , Jonathan Franks ) you could not get a better kind of people together. To sit and talk about STAR TREK and how they feel about it close to heart.
there was / is frequently news and gossip that those guys are arrogant and bigheaded and so on and so forth. bill shatner comes to my mind as i heard that supposedly he was not such a nice guy. after reading two of bill's books i came to change my opinion and these interviews support my opinion that these people are wonderful and funny (normal) people with fears and hopes - and that they are humble and had a terrific time! wonderful interview. awesome people, THANK YOU!
@Nikki74656 Thank you very much for posting this. I wasn't aware of this video, and I'm glad I could watch it thanks to you. I've watched every TNG, DS:9 and Voyager and most Original Series episode, and it was blast seeing these great actors out of character.
I grew up to, with Captain Picard and Commander Ryker! My favorite show! I like how the cast of both shows were so close and still are today. It is nice to see them act like a family. Also you could see the closeness in their acting on the show!

He is a very special, deep feeling man, and it comes across so clearly! THANKS FOR POSTING THIS! I ran across this completely by accident and was riveted the entire time!!!

Great videos! Thanks so much for posting it. Star Trek touches peoples lives and changes them forever, it seems the same with those who took part in the making as well as the fans.
@Tarn1968 Patrick and Jonathan are. Will has a story on his website here: tinyurl(dot)com/ntt5cf about a convention appearance he did with Patrick, Jonathan and Brent in 2001. As for Shatner now that's more compicated, for that Google "Geek in Review: The WFS Story, Part I"
@Tarn1968 Yes, you're right. They did. I knew. Also don't forget Majel Barret-Roddenberrry: Lwaxana Troi, the voice of the computer through all series and Nurse Christine Chapel!
@viridismonasteriense You got to be kidding, Picard has nothing on Kirk, nothing at all, it is seen by the fame that Shatner Has over Patrick even after 50 years after the original Star Trek.
@gaarcemail Picard's been Borgified, tortured by Cardassians, lived a lifetime in only seconds, beat a Klingon in a fight, owned Q in quoting Hamlet, saved Sarek and Spock and bitchslapped the Borg Queen and after all this this guy shyly retreats into his captain's quarters with a cup of Old Grey.
Shatner has the benefit of being the original, the first, the iconic captain of the Enterprise and that's what gives him the edge over Patrick. I'm not saying Kirk's not awesome. Don't diss Picard.
@viridismonasteriense LOL, that's too bad for him, cause he will never reach the fame of the Shat. You got to see the old Star Trek, and see how dynamic Shat was. He pretty much made the show. And proof of it is, that after 50 years he is still very famous for it, and really hasn't done nothing close to that ever since.
@gaarcemail So you're really saying Star Trek is ONLY famous and remembered for Shatner? Not Gene Roddenberry's vision? Not Spock? Not because it inspired the future and inspired scientists to build the future, creating mobile phones and scanners and earpods and Ipads and computers and naming the first space shuttle after the Enterprise?
You're saying Shatner is so enigmatic the show would've failed without him? That's fucking blasphemy IMO.
@viridismonasteriense I would say mainly, not only. The show would have done all those things even if it would have lasted only a few years. I strongly believe that Shatners dynamic persona as the Captain has been a major part in its success. If this isn't true, than way is Shat so much more recognised than every other character of the show? The only one who has had some what a career as an actor and why after 50 years is he still very famous for it?
@gaarcemail "If this isn't true, than way is Shat so much more recognised than every other character of the show?"
More than Spock? I disagree.
"The only one who has had some what a career as an actor and why after 50 years is he still very famous for it?"
No love for Leonard Nimoy then? Or are you only comparing to Patrick Stewart? Because he was fucking Professor Xavier and is still the iconic bald captain. Sorry, Sisko. Underrated Deep Space Nine really deserves more attention.
I grew up watching TNG going into teen years and on up. I would come home and listen to Picard make a speech on morality or tolerence and see what a man could do with words instead of fist. I dont know these actors personaly but I grew up with these faces. I liked how there characters were larger than life. There is enough reality TV now days.
@HappyJake100 Watching this got me to realize that Star Trek cultivated my love for Philosophy. With them talking about how certain fans tell them how it influenced them to go into engineering or something, it really is a deeper philosophical show than anything on even today. Today I'm learning Philosophy in college, and when I watch it, it entertains me so fully and I feel so happy that people were able to put together something so precious as this TV show. TV is only rarely so wonderful.
When Frakes said to Shatner something to the effect of, "You're the only person from the original series cast who did not guest star on our show...", correct me if I'm wrong, but did not Takei, Nichols, and Koenig not play a guest role on THG as well? I know Doohan, Kelly, and Nemoy did in various episodes.
Thanks, and I am grateful that you did not use an upload accelerater. It is good to watch those "icons" talk with their lips in synch.

Oh, after watching all 7 parts I really want to watch Star Trek again. But now the eternal question looms: Kirk or Picard?
viridismonasteriense 8 months ago
@viridismonasteriense kirk hands down
zignotea 8 months ago
@viridismonasteriense You got to be kidding, Picard has nothing on Kirk, nothing at all, it is seen by the fame that Shatner Has over Patrick even after 50 years after the original Star Trek.
gaarcemail 5 months ago
@gaarcemail Picard's been Borgified, tortured by Cardassians, lived a lifetime in only seconds, beat a Klingon in a fight, owned Q in quoting Hamlet, saved Sarek and Spock and bitchslapped the Borg Queen and after all this this guy shyly retreats into his captain's quarters with a cup of Old Grey.
Shatner has the benefit of being the original, the first, the iconic captain of the Enterprise and that's what gives him the edge over Patrick. I'm not saying Kirk's not awesome. Don't diss Picard.
viridismonasteriense 5 months ago 3
@viridismonasteriense LOL, that's too bad for him, cause he will never reach the fame of the Shat. You got to see the old Star Trek, and see how dynamic Shat was. He pretty much made the show. And proof of it is, that after 50 years he is still very famous for it, and really hasn't done nothing close to that ever since.
gaarcemail 4 months ago
@gaarcemail So you're really saying Star Trek is ONLY famous and remembered for Shatner? Not Gene Roddenberry's vision? Not Spock? Not because it inspired the future and inspired scientists to build the future, creating mobile phones and scanners and earpods and Ipads and computers and naming the first space shuttle after the Enterprise?
You're saying Shatner is so enigmatic the show would've failed without him? That's fucking blasphemy IMO.
viridismonasteriense 4 months ago
@viridismonasteriense I would say mainly, not only. The show would have done all those things even if it would have lasted only a few years. I strongly believe that Shatners dynamic persona as the Captain has been a major part in its success. If this isn't true, than way is Shat so much more recognised than every other character of the show? The only one who has had some what a career as an actor and why after 50 years is he still very famous for it?

More than Spock? I disagree.
"The only one who has had some what a career as an actor and why after 50 years is he still very famous for it?"
No love for Leonard Nimoy then? Or are you only comparing to Patrick Stewart? Because he was fucking Professor Xavier and is still the iconic bald captain. Sorry, Sisko. Underrated Deep Space Nine really deserves more attention.

@Tarn1968 Scotty and Spock and Sarek appeared in ST: TNG though.
