ive been hearing alot about shipyards adopting fcaw for almost everything including pipe, i used to work in a fab plant where we migged and core wire welded low pressure pipe, since it wasnt code a full pen. root was not required but i would often practice at it with little success. do you guys know much about wire welding pipe to code? i am certed. to uphill sch 80 with 6010 root 7018 cap and was pretty damn good at that but this wire welding is just fucked up for roots
Why do people think a 6G weld is hard to learn or even do, esp. on up hill rod? Do a branch test with .500 wall 12", lay it out, etc.,etc. Are you a single hand welder?

ummmmm..... it might just be me.... by why the FUCK are you welding a butt that goes to nothing in the middle of what seems to be a field?? :s you need to discover sex... or masturbation at least... :/
@FromThe3PointLine yea man lincoln excaliber rods 1/8 , 3/32 are the shit their good the ones in the round red and white cans like the ones on the guys tailgate
I love the way that machine sounds, what kind is it..? I have a lincoln sa-250 diesel and I want it to sound just like that when it idles high. What can I do in order for mine to sound like that or is it possible..?
6g 7018 fill and cap is a pain in the ass and this guy starts of welding right handed then half way he switches to left hand and one hands it both ways that's good shit and yet you still get comments like you didn't clean before you started welding again
1/8 5p plus and adam arc 3/32 7018 been using them for 22 years on amonia pipeing on the bench and out of position, 4" and above 150 and 300# flanges setting flat I use 7024 it's a lot quicker and really lays smooth we call it jet rod. If you can pass the 6G test on pipe you can pretty much weld with anything else.
im going to school for pipe welding myself, im on the 5G 6010 root, 7018 filler. and my problem is on the root pass.....the weld seems to be more concentrated on one side of the pipe, but my rod is completely parallel with the gap opening, and i usually weld with my amps at around......eh im gonna say around 78. but yea i dont know what my problem is though.
@310extreme ..its ur speed..push ur rod into the gap deep such that its still welding but u do not see much of its ``brightness``and u have to adjust ur angle to compensate..if u think its staraight and its concentrated on one side adjust ur angle...angle it more
im going for my 6g in a few weeks dc cert. and it 6010 root, fill and multi cap in a 2x2 foot booth. 6010 has a lot of splatter and is a dense metal. 7018 is fun to work with and the finish is real pretty. but the big boy go with the 6010.
Now thats a 6g im tired of clicking these videos and seeing a bunch of crappy scrap iron welders happy about welding easy down hill. 7018 uphill 100 percent xray is where you seperate the men from the boys good work man keep it up
@JPooh45 i run a 3-32 to 1-16 gap and run 1-8 5pt rod at 85 to 95 amps depending on size of pipe when i do 10 inch r bigger should i run 5-32 at 135 and up just tryn to gwt this shit down for when i get into the oil patch
6 g welding certifications are where the big money is at. But the humongous salaries are Offshore welding. Few welders make it Offshore, because they don't know the when , where, why, and how. Learn how to get Offshore as a welder where the mega bucks are. Order: OFFSHORE WELDERS GUIDE, $25.00, FROM: Dungeon Iron Works, P.O. Box 122, Palmer, Tennessee 37365. you should always wear ear plugs when welding. It only takes one hot bb in the ear canal to lose your hearing. when its gone its gone.

Pipe welding is fun i think just takes time! I used a rod called 6010 5P thing i like about it was there was less sparks and it is runs way smoother!

It appears he is having to test out in the field before being allowed to start welding on that pipe line behind him.
