Where I live, the gov't recently wanted to cut all contract personnel salaries by 1%. That affects those at the lowest end of the salary scale like school bus drivers and lunch room attendants. Of course, the City Council, Mayor, or School Board members would never take a pay cut in their 6 figure salaries or benefits. When I accidentally pulled into the city council parking lot a few months ago, I noticed there were only Mercedes, BMWs, & Cadillacs there. Who's serving whom?
Isn't it interesting when the local government wants to tax you more, they immediately threaten to decrease fire and police services--one of the few services they legitimately use your tax dollars for. They never consider cutting out lucrative no-bid contracts to their relatives, they don't threaten not to decorate their offices, or to not build new office space for themselves, or to make all city employees turn in their personally used vehicles purchased, maintained, and fueled w/ taxpayer $.
