  • this song is so hard....

  • i am currently practising this song for grade 10 piano. any tips?

  • @yanners0007 I would work on right hand fingering first alone, you will have to do a bunch of finger substitutions on p.2. Other than that its pretty straight forward. PS. Don't ignore the dotted noted length :P

  • Amazing... It brought tears to my eyes

  • I love all your vids man, specially arabesque. good, good job..

  • hope you'll play winter sonata someday..^_^ you're so cool and awesome! I like you sir, ur like the guy from twilight and winter sonata, XD!!

  • I like this piece! could you send me the sheet music?

  • Liar.... This isn't a "Pianist" playing in this video. It is a Master playing in this video.

  • I'm doing this piece for my Grade 10 RCM!

  • @aliiccceeee Me too ^^

  • BAh! That's shity, that's fucking commercial music.

  • fantastic well done

  • love this song, learned to play it even though i dont know how to play the piano...such an amazing piece

  • very good job... can you play grand polonesa brillante by chopin? or any gnossienne? that would be pretty cool, dont you think?....

  • Braaaaaaaavo!!!!

  • wonderful... that's music!

by the way I play the same way... so if you like this video YOU have to watch my video called "thinking about life"

    YOU won't regret it!!

  • Really nice!

    You play so beatifuly!

    Have u the score??

    thankss! =)

  • good job lypur. is it you?

  • my friend teachin me this song :) lolll sometimes we'll play together, he'll play left hand and ill play right hand or vise versa...its a beautiful song..one of me favs

  • @toxxicrose me and my friend like to do the same thing except we just like to make music off the tops of our heads.

  • I'm playing it for my Grade 10 RCM exam and I'm so excited cuz I love this piece. Beautiful!

  • Yea! I played this for my grade 10, but I still love to play it. Very beautiful piece for sure :)

  • @Lypur I find the piano lessons so helpful! However I just started and are now at lesson 7. I want to do accredited music theory. Do you perhaps know where I can sign up for this? In London?

    Thanks again.

    God blessed you

  • @Lypur LOL! this feels like some kind of Gr.10 RCM reunion or something! I also played it for my Gr.10 and thinking of bringing it back sometime. Got a long list of pieces I want to do though :S Question for you: I just started recording my pieces. Do you find that YOUR recordings have a LESS dynamic contrast than what it is in real life?? It seems that way for me and its bothering me! I don't know if its my camera or if I'm imagining that I have better contrast in person

  • @TheRealDanielAbreu I feel that way too. Even on the little pieces, it doesn't feel like I can get as much emotion into when I'm being recorded, but if I do the playback doesn't reflect it. Very bizarre....

  • @crazypianolady i'm sure if i had an external mic and good recording program things would be different. The camera with built-in mic really isn't made for capturing all the nuances in a classical performance.

  • @Lypur nice job by the way

  • sweet... very nice...

  • I am so glad I started to watch your videos, specially the Piano lessons. You have excellent talent. This encourages me to pay attention to your instructions in your lessons videos.

  • that was amazing great job :)

  • thanks! ^_^

  • Wow man

  • Do you play the piano for a living?

  • Nope, I teach for a living though :)

  • @Lypur Where did you get the solo score for this? I'd really appreciate it if you let everyone on here know because I think everyone agrees that it is a fantastic piece. Unfortunately we can't always have a partner to practice and play it with - makes it even more depressing perhaps.

  • Beautifully played, great dynamics and rubato, congrats :)

  • I was expecting this to be tchaikovsky

  • Me too. It's amazing anyways, though.

  • i'm learning from your videos you are great you make this song so easy xD

  • Is this a hard song to learn? What would you say the skill level of this song is??

  • Well, I wouldn't say it's super easy for your average player. It's rated RCM grade 10 ^_^ I think the hard part of the song would be The amount of dynamic control you need. ^_^

  • wow, beautiful, dark and sad at the same time. I usually think composers tend to go to far beyond recognition when they're venturing out in different tonalities like, with the twelwe tone method and such. But this composition demonstrates for me that these two can work very well together. Beautiful played by the way, the interpretation is of as much importance as the composition itself.

  • That was really good, Andrew. Very well played =)

  • thank you :)

  • great job thanks for the vid!

  • Beautiful! I've been wanting some sort of inspiriation for playing this piece because I've always never bothered to practice it xD, and you have given me some! How long did it take to perfect this piece? and memorize too?

  • mmm memorize and perfect? i think like 3 months. I tend to take my time trying to get the interpretation just right.

  • eeeek. how'd you rmb the entire song? i always find it uber hard to memorize peices

  • just practise :) also memorizing the harmonies always helps as well.

  • Your videos are GREAT, thank you so much, I think more people should teach music for free :) great job.

  • The reason for the tinny sound in the notes is more likely your Yamaha piano than the camera. They are notorious for that timbre of sound...

  • well :) if you listen to my other songs (like the one autoplaying on my channel) you can hear a huge huge difference in the sound quality ;)

  • I was half-kidding of course. Yamahas do have that reputation though...

    I enjoyed your music, thanks!

  • Did U finish playing all the exercises in Hanon?

  • Im learning Hanon techniques - very good exercises. Just hoping the clapping technique to get rhythm and keep tempo works got any suggestions on that?

  • How does this suck?

    Shut your mouth xChrijz.

  • very nice.

  • bravo!

  • Man it is never dull watching your videos!

  • :) well thank you! :D

  • Let me ask u one question. Did U finish playing all the exercises in Hanon?

  • Very nice! Where did you get the sheet music for this?

  • Wow, this is so relaxing..

  • i like how u move ur hands from one key to another, looks very professional.

  • great piano playing!

    really liked it!

  • perfect! thanks for all your videos.

  • a beautiful piece and most important the greatest teacher i ever know man ur awesome all ur vids...ur the best relly the best lol :P

  • really? that's so nice of you to say ^_^ thank you!

  • I have never heard this composition before. I am familiar with some of Barber's works. His solo Sonata is how you say "awesome" (and then some!) This is really one of his more trivial works IMHO yoho. However, it has a nice relaxing eraly morning mood-feel to it! Great Job 5 stars!

  • thanks ^_^ Yea i really wish I had recorded this when I had my new camera, because the mic on this one was complete crap, makes everything sound very "tinny" ^_^ but thanks for the nice words of wisdom!

  • Brilliant music and interpretation!Thank you for sharing!Awesome!5*+fav.

  • thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it

  • And his soul wept.

  • do you mean mine?

  • I've started to listen to your performances daily.

    Each is played beautifully.

  • you the best... every other teacher/ mentor I've seen on the web doesn't even compare to you, and you're free!!! :D thanks again...

  • !!! wow! You're TOO kind! Thank you so much!

  • No, I meant it as a euphemism to mine, however you must have been moved by your performance as well, surely. Either way it was quiet an enjoyable piece, thank you.

  • you're welcome! I'm really glad you enjoyed it thanks!

  • oh my god that's so beautiful!! ammazing!

  • beautiful

  • Amazing.... 10/10

  • Fantastical

  • Where can I find sheet music

    Thx in advance

  • this is one the best things ive ever seen on this website andrew your amazing and it is an honor to learn from you thank you soooooooooooooooo much!!!!!

  • I loved this. I play low brass instruments but I just have been wanting to learn to play the piano. I learned some things from your lesson videos. Thanks for the videos!!!

  • Will you marry me? :)

  • thanks, this help me understand the overall concept for the piece (I'm doing it for my gr10 exam)

  • You're welcome ^_^ good luck on the exam!

  • hola

  • hola back

  • Wow, this is a pretty cool piece! I've never heard it before. I'm not an expert on piano and classical music, but I have to say it has got an interesting harmony. Hmm, maybe because it's a 20th century work, as you wrote. :)

You're a really good pianist. Your playing is so smooth and emotional. I've seen some of your lessons as well - they're cool too, but I actually can't understand everything correctly, cos I'm Polish. ;)

    Have a nice day!

  • well thank you! yea, i love this song so much, everytime you play it it feels different than the last time. ^_^ Thanks for the comment

  • How to remember so much =*(

  • it's easy once you do it 1,000 times over :)

  • thats pretty cool

  • Beautiful! I'm slowly working my way through your great vids,I'm just a beginner but hopefully one day......:)Btw the new re-shot vids are so much better, thanks for taking the time and trouble its really appreciated. Keep up the good work

  • thanks! I'm happy to hear you appreciate the reshot lessons! They WERE quite a bit of work, but it was also a great feeling of accomplishment when it was all over with.

  • i'm playing this piece for my grade 10

ofcourse, you play a lot better than me =)

i actually started hating the piece when i started practicing it a few months ago

now it's my second favorite on my repertoire!

  • I feel like I don't appreciate this as much as I should.

  • you are my idol; i started this piece today

  • You are very talented for someone so young! I am a fellow pianist and it shouldn't always matter what emotion you evoke (to me). But bravo! You will go far with this talent.

  • Why thank you!! ^_^

  • You can play very well! I love the angle of the camera on the piano too!

  • You like the angle hey? That's good Maybe i'll use that angle again in future videos

  • I watched this 9 times i love it

i wish i coud play that

  • 9 times!?! wow..well thank you for the compliment!

  • wow i'v never seen eney thing like that in my live i loved it

  • Hey man, you're right! Mr. Colour took the place of Mr. Asimov, well done!

  • Great job! Thanks for sharing.

I was wondering tho, if you've tried crossing your hands over for the wide appoggiaturas in measures 65 & 67. Specifically: the octave in the left, the broken 3rd in the right, then the 7th in the left again. The melody gets picked up by the right hand at that point, and using the pedal gives the left time to pick up the bass chord.

    Again, thanks for sharing.

    Best,

    eCo

  • You inspire me.

    That was not sarcastic.

  • I watched this twice, it's just so beautiful. I was stunned by how fluent you were, I love arpeggios! Did you have the sheet music with you at the time?

  • wow you watched it twice? what a lovely compliment! Were you asking if i was playing this by memory? If you were yes, i played this without looking at the book, it was all memorized

  • What grade is this?? :)

  • grade 10 RCM but i found it pretty easy to play. it's slow but harmonically complex. like the ending scale isn't really a scale at all, it's F# major superimposed over top of e minor ^_^

  • Thanks for being the first to post the solo version on you tube! It is a extremely difficult piece to play. The big chords kill my hands. I love Anderson and Roe!

  • you're welcome ^_^ yea i love this song, andI like anderson and roe as well ^_^ I'm hoping i'll get to meet them one day

  • I could fall in love

  • ?

    ?

  • wow! that's so nice!

do you think i could have the music sheet?

so i could play it too! :)

  • Really nice Andrew. The emotion shines thru big time. Thank you.

  • Hey Michael!

Thanks!! I'm very pleased to hear you enjoyed this!

  • bravo, very nice! it inspire me!. how many years since u start piano?

I think i will start piano lessons after i finish whit yours "online free" lessons :D that are so good to start

    Thank u a lot.

  • take care ^_^ watch for later today my video that tells everyone about my new website!!! :D

  • Well, if your ready to set it aside for a new one, you always open it up and hack it's mic, either completly bypassing it or soldering a simple jack for and external one ^_^

  • Btw, what camera do you use? Does it have an aux mic imput? You could try using a better external ambient mic for it, instead of buying a new expensive camera. Although good mics also expensive, but maybe not as much. If it doesn't have a mic plug, you can always hack it DIY style! ^_^

  • sadly no aux mic imput:(

  • Goog song. And great playing too. Kind of reminds me of The Pianist movie (i think it's Bach he plays?), some kind of deep quietude-drama-sorrow-myst-feeling throught it all. Gratz Lypur-san x]

  • Andrew,

    Hats off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Both to the creator and the player........

For a moment, I literally forgot where I was...its sooooooooooooo mesmerising.........

The way you have put it across........its an honour to listen.......the movement of hands..fantastic!!!!!! Keep them coming.......

  • Andrew, This is really nice....Enjoyed it very much. Thank you !!

  • you're welcome! i'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • It it a pleasure to listen!

    Thanks Andrew.

  • you're welcome! it's a pleasure to be heard!

  • So relaxing to hear - absolutely mesmorising....Andrew if you were a girl I think you would have hypnotised me with your music....thanks for posting...NBL Your last note E was silent - I couldnt quite hear it.

  • lol if i were a girl i would've mezormied you? nice ^_^ I think i'm glad i'm not a girl though ^_^ i wouldn't want to know what you'd do to me if you were mesmorised by me *wink*

yea, that E turned out to be alittle quiet, but actually when i played it live you could hear it and it sounded perfect, but sadly the camera didn't seem to pick it up *tear* anyway thanks for the comments!

  • I've watched this 4 times now and it's in my favourites.

The middle section is amazing and the ending is perfect.

I know i've commented before but i needed to say more.

    Thanks for posting.

  • wow 4 times? you must really love this song then:) i'm glad you like it so much! yea the middle section is very nice! it's fun to play, don't feel bad about leaving another comment go ahead and post 5 more if you have that much to say:) i won't get annoyed ^_^ it's nice to hear feedback so thank you!

  • Lovely!

  • ohh! you actually liked it? if you were adjudicating this what would you have given me?

    thanks!

  • THAT WAAAS SOOO BEAUTIFUUUUL!!! I WANNA KNOW HOW TO PLAY IT TOOOO :D haha, omg.. thats sooooooo beautiful :D and you do it so calmly, usually when I just do my scales I'm all over the place .. my legs are crossed in a very strage way.. my one hand is in one end of the piano my other hand is on the other end.. and I'm sweating like a pig :D (sorry for the details, but I just can't do without them :D)..

  • Pretty good job, Andrew. You're gonna have the babes strippin' off and attacking you before you finish the piece :)

  • hahaha that'd be pretty awesome;)

  • excellent. I'd give my left arm to play like that, but then without the arm, I'd have trouble playing like that.

  • how about your left foot then? :) but really thanks for the compliment!
