Curious as to how you arrive at the exercise selection? I really like what yo call the tripod, and had not seen those before. Am eager to try them, but the KB action followed by handstand pushups seems very deltoid focused. Is this by design (in other words is this a shoulder workout first and foremost?).
I like using sandbags because the weight shifts constantly and your core has to work a little harder to compensate for that. (Plus sandbags are really cheap)

Dumbells would be a much better sub than sandbags since they would be much easier to do one-handed. Anything is better than nothing.

it depends.. the one he is using is a 24 i think.. but you can get them all the way down to uhm like 8 or 6 :)
