It’s not a fun fad or anything cool, but a type of impairment that some people struggle with if they don’t have said glasses. Damn fads copying real problems.And those are only nerd glasses if you saw the movie " Reveng of the Nerds", which perpetuates the stereotype that all nerds are like that.

I've been wearing glasses since 2007 and I have Ray-Ban frames which have recently in the past couple of years been labelled as 'nerd glasses' and are being worn by people who don't even need glasses. I need larger frames too because I actually don't suit small ones. Wearing frames have become some sort of fashion statement now. People do it to look 'indie' because that seems to be the trend now... Not to mention I used to get teased for wearing glasses =/
