Directional Influence. It's when you press a direction on the stick so you influence which direction your trajectory bias.

As far as the fast falling, it's because Falcon is a fast faller. Fast Fallers have advantages and disadvantages. They're good combo food, so it's easy for Marth to go to town on them once he starts. On the other hand, it can be difficult for Marth to catch one so he can INITIATE the combo.
