i think copyright rights should ONLY go to the guy who created said product and should only last 10 years!!! That is PLENTY OF TIME to make your money.
it's musicians like thom york and Radiohead leading the revolution of what the industry could be, without greedy, corrupt ,selfish corporations who nothing about what they're defending or protecting, taking over our way of life and culture..sell outs like that old fart Bono and U2 are the complete opposite...they're a bunch of aging has -beens and haven't written anything decent since 1992..they are the dwindling so called innovators who should give it up and do us all a favor and retire !
they shoulda all raised their hand then kicked the crap out of the guy who was talkin and said "Copyright THIS bitch!" before sticking their shoes up his ass
Imagine if they tried to sue EVERYONE for every single piece of copyrighted material they downloaded? The prison system would collapse, and the economy would bankrupt quicker and more devastatingly than both the Gret Depression and the ongoing GFC.
The record companies will sue a few of us to make examples of them and to scare the rest of us.
I say we should all announce just how we would be sued for if the record companies came after us. Then let them try!
Rick Cairns' argument is complete rubbish. When asked if it's a bit overboard to get 5 years in jail and a $250 000 fine, Cairns' says "There is a thing called intellectual property.". Nobody who has those 5000 MP3s on their hard drive is actually claiming to be the owner of the intellectual property nor are they stealing the idea of the song, which is the whole point of "intellectual property".
@iamboy1234 They did go overboard, yeah. Yes, folks have a right to protect what's theirs. The governments, however, are a bunch of asscrackers who over react to every little thing and blow it WAAAAAY out of proportion. 5 years over a SONG is the biggest load of bull I have ever seen.
@iamboy1234 what's more is that the ideas that he is expressing are clearing those of the big media corporations and not his own. Now THAT'S stealing of intellectual property!
dont read this. you will get kissed on the nearest possible friday by the love of your life. tomorrow will be the best day of your life. however if you dont post this comment to at least 3 peoples you will die within 2 days. now uv started readin dis dunt stop this is so scary. send this over to 5 people in 143 minutes when ur done press f6 and ur crushes name will appear on the screen in big letters. this is so scary because it actually work
It sucks that in the states companies have been forced to stop selling dvd rippers and stop distributing free dvd ripper software. Thankfully the proposed copyright law before Parliament died, hopefully if a new one is made it's not dumb like the ones in the states. The ability to do what we want with the stuff we've bought and fair use needs to be protected!

actually u2 is still good. just watch their most recent tour.
Also, We don't even know if it was the band who filed the lawsuit in the first place.
It COULDA been their record label and U2 wasn't kept in the loop.

this is absolutley insane... illegal documentations remind me of a time where they greeted eachother with "sieg heil"

I believe only the artist has right to distribute, reproduce and give rights the music not a company that they work for.

Marillion did that (releasing their music online for the fans to remix) YEARS before Radiohead - six years, in fact.
