In June 2002, Nickelodeon announced that Taina was cancelled after two seasons, despite big ratings. The main reason being was that they thought it appealed more to females than males. According to Josh Cruze, the show was also getting more expensive to produce. According to Vidal in a later interview, scripts for a third season of the series were already written before the show was cancelled.

Taina aired from January 14, 2001 until May 11, 2002. It had two seasons and was planned for a third season (the script for the third season already completed). Even though it had high ratings and was a success, the show was cancelled. The reason being it "attracted more female viewers than male viewers". Bullshit... that's what Nickelodeon wants us to believe.

@Otakufan143 Yeah, Nick was really good about giving minority cultures spot light back then, probably because of the time. Diversity and Anti-Racism were "in", and so television producers were more motivated to highlight diverse cultures.

But on the more artistic side, Nick was a lot more diverse with its musical selection. Thinking about it, Nick was really going out on an edge by featuring urban and hip-hop artists, cause those were still emergent genres in the mainstream back then.
