@Chinook249 well its actually an isolator, the circuit breaker is supposed to be switched open, oil filled circuit breakers, then them contacts are opened like in the video to isolate the line. So if the circuit breaker was operated the line would still be isolated. Looks like thecircuit breaker was not properly opened maybe because faulty. It looks like the other 2 phases were disconnected ok, as only one disconnect arc`d.
This is real - google 500 kV Eldorado substation where it happend and you can find out all the gory details. The arc you see is only a charging current that the transmittion line takes. The arc occurs between two points of a line isolator that is meant to only open when the line is dead. The power usually being turned off by a circuit breaker. Anyways the circuit breaker was faulty and this was the result. Its not fake and no trickery was involved.
well it looks real and i would believe it because imagine how much power those have running through them, also in the begging it looks like to "contact plates" if you will, separate but the energy is still trying to get from one to another.

not realy u can see its rendered
a real electric thing like that would never react that long n second it wouldnt fy up eltric things like that always tak the shortest way it would never fly up that high in real
or maybe thats just how it happens ... look at other videos of the same thing of a transformer docking over.... no or wait maybe its just a trend in videos that people just decide to edit this in! o man maybe you are on to something! -.- idiot
well at least you are onto something there about this having to do with physics... but obviously you do not understand a damn thing about it and just believe what your little intuition tells you and that you are right about it... look it up you CHUD maybe do some fucking research the next time you open your stupid fucking mouth...
fool n yea i did research n everything i find tells me about elecricity that it searches the shortest way and thats why it never would go up like that fukhead >_>
This is not a generator power surge. This arcing is normal when you open up a connector under load. One of the three phases has load while the other two does not and therefore doesn't arc.
Now there's something you don't see every day.

@hayseninusername No, its a malfunction in a 500KV switch. The voltage was high enough to basically leap the gap.

It's not a surge, it does that when they isolate the system (that's how they turn off the power).
