  • if you wanna make war after hearing this song you are monster

  • Great band, great video. This should be required viewing for every young American man and woman.

This is what the criminal Bush / Cheney Administration brought to us nearly ten years ago now, and what the ineffectual Obama Administration has utterly failed to correct.

  • Tragic as the song is, it's even more shattering to think that such was rock music once. Pre-emptive addendum: I know there are some very good bands today and I am a fan of a few too. My point is still made.

  • what movie is this from?

  • its 2011 and still the lies go on.

    God bless you RD

  • Absolutely love it, can't think of a bad kinks song tbh but this is one of the few sad songs that I'll never mind being put on even when in a partying mood!

  • Men die in coal mines, in war all over the world, on the sea, everywhere; and what do men also do then when war is over, yes they put up a sculpture or memorial of a WOMAN!!!

Soldiers are NOT SOLDIERS, the are MALEDIERS, men who dies for "mothers"!!!

Men die 10 years earlier than women because they spend all their lived to worry about and to supply women!!!

    There is no other reason!!!

But, make no mistake here; I am not a women hater; my very best friend is a WOMAN, one of those intelligent

  • @wonderfulvoices

what happened to you in your youth? Something is off.

  • Veteran's Day, Nov 11, 1969 school assignment at LPS was to air a 15 min. school radio production highlighting the significance of the event. Davies' song inspired classmates' ears and eyes to open that day, the first time to question war and realize the futility and human cost of the ongoing debacle in "Nam." Used the Beatles "Revolution" and Buffy Ste Marie's "Universal Soldier" for rest of my quarter hour segment. Of course, the right wing administration wasn't impressed, but the kids were.

  • This is the most anti-war song of them all. I'm proud of ye, Ray....

  • brilliant film here. works great with the song.

  • One of if not the greatest anti-war song ever written by the greatest song writer of all time from One of the best albums of All time by the greatest band of all time! God save the KinKs!

  • I'll add (cheating...I went over the limit) that the lyrics "all dead soldiers look the same" is such a heart-rending truth...symbolized by all those identical coffins with flags over them, Ray always captures things with such direct simplicity

  • I'm with you ladies ...this is one of Ray's most touching songs, always makes me cry, quite simply kids used to go off to war when their nation's leaders (who sat comfortably at home) told them to, in many parts of the world it's still like that and in the U.S., though there's no longer the draft, who gets sent off to places like Afghanistan and Iraq? Neither mothers nor fathers willingly send their children to war, but many join the army because they really don't have many other alternatives

  • This is truly the SADDEST song Ray has ever written. Why is there so much arguing and cursing in these comments? That sort of thing is how wars get STARTED! When war broke out in Croatia in the early '90s I saw many places I visited destroyed. We must not allow these things to keep happening.

  • Some FATHER's son!!!

  • Mothers love their sons more you moron!

  • Yes they Love them so much that they send them into wars to die!!!!!

You obviously believe in the Myth!!!

Read the MANIPULATED MAN, by the German women writer, Esther Vilar, and you will have all the answers

  • @wonderfulvoices Dear Heart, no one will argue about the fact that war really, really sucks. I'm sure we all agree. I'm truly sorry you have such painful issues about women and mothers in particular. That's as sad as this song. Do you truly feel that mothers have more say about whether their sons go "off to war" than fathers do and that they literally "send" them off with the intention that their child should die or are you just trying to make a dramatic point?

  • @wonderfulvoices And your point is what? It's a song. Not a social statement on the family unit. Just a sad song about war, any war. This particular one is about how mother's may feel. Please feel free to write a song about some father's son if you'd like. You can call it Danny Boy. It will be an instant hit. I'm not trying to be mean. You obviously have strong feelings on this topic. I don't think this song is meant to disregard fathers.

  • this is such a sad song. it was beautifully written. another Kinks masterpiece - one of so so so many.

  • This is one of my favourite songs ever. When the album first came out, I was the only one in my circle of friends who liked it. The others thought it "Not jolly enough". Great art can be thought provoking and evocative like this track, as well as educational and entertaining. I'm so glad that Kinks fans around the world now have a more mature attitude to this kind of music than my contemporaries did. Ray Davies expertly evokes all types of human emotions, not just playing superficial froth

  • @Galericulus - Agreed. This album was VERY underappreciated. I loved it from the moment I first heard it. It has stood the test of time. This song is a killer anti-war song.

  • That footage is supposed to portray WWI. The album is about WWII, a British mans disillusionment with British society, and his move to Australia after WWII. Just saying.

  • But "Some Mother's Son" doesn't refer to WWII. From the album's liner notes by Julian Mitchell: "Arthur did have another son, called Eddie. He was named for Arthur's brother, who was killed in the battle of the Somme. Arthur's Eddie was killed, too -- in Korea." The song must represent someone's memories -- could be Arthur's of either Eddie, could be Rose's.

  • It's WWI, you fucking cocksucker.

  • The video truly is, but the song does not inevitably relate to WW I ! Also the videos quality is far beyond that, which was typical for the 1960's and '70's, so it isnt likely to be the original video, which the Kinks intended for this song, you catmongling son of a bitch

  • Well, any war song can be related to any war unless it specifically states it. But, it looks like it could've been shot in the late 60's. And even if it wasn't this particular video is set on WWI.

  • Kinks explore the horror of war melodically! Just to let you know, The criminal Rothschilds banking dynasty has caused every war and revolution since the 1770's. Life as we've been taught it, is a con folks and you better wake up soon!! Or perish!

  • Amen

  • How did the Rothschilds cause the India-Pakistan wars? Please tell me!

  • Beautiful and horrible. The politicians are owned. The people must rise up,

  • My god this is powerful stuff.Play it to the politicians. Thanks to the greatest songwriter that ever drew breath Ray Davies. What more can be said.

  • wich film is this taken from?

  • If memory serves me...I think it is "All Quiet on the Western Front"

  • @romelovesdan I was just going to comment the same, its the 1979 movie with Richard Thomas & Ernest Borgnine, just saw part of it last night. It fits perfectly with the music.

  • Great Video and what a touching song could almost be a hymn for Remberence Day. Have you thought of doing 'War Is Over, from UK Jive Album ??

I would love to have a go at this myself, is it all right to down load the songs, I have a copy of 'Did Ya' and would love to get this on YouTube.

Hi to all you Worldwide Kink Fans

  • Amazing production, great song by a great band. Virtually all the story songs of the Kinks would be perfect for the short video treatment.
