Simply powerful. This is one of my favorite scenes of any movie. This loving stranger has the power to leave this cruel Roman soldier dumbstruck and can bring hope and the will to survive for Ben-Hur, who has all but given up on life. Beautifully and tenderly done.
Thanks for posting---back when movies were made with genuine class and Christianity wasn't spat upon by the now drugged out anti-right anti-American Hollywood. I totally recommend this film for everyone.
And God reached down and touched the soul of a man with his music and that man was Miklos Rozsa. And Rozsa shared the warmth and love of God with tone and form and melody and here is his lasting gift, which will live on beyond his mortal life. Truly not just the voice, but also the music of God. Who would not be moved by this music and this scene? Regardless of your personal beliefs, Jesus was, and is by example, the light of the world.
I saw Ben Hur for the first time about a year and a half ago. I vaguely remember hearing he met Jesus in the movie. Then I saw this scene, and the minute I saw the shadow over Charlton Heston's character, I knew it was Jesus. I think this is the most beautiful scene in cinematic history. Regardless of your religion, you can appreciate this moment, and understand who Jesus was and feel his love radiate.
Wyler was a master of less is more. Give your audience credit for imagination and they will 'fill in the story' where you lead. This and "Jezebel" are prime examples. You don't see Christ's face----he looks exactly as YOU BELIEVE Christ looked: in the painting of the churches of your childhood; on your grandparents' walls. Reactions from the actors seeing what we don't but can imagine, REALLY pulls us into the story. Sure wish films today would get it. Bravo, great scene.
I think its interesting that BenHur doesn't say thank you. But that is because words can't describe his gratitude just like words can't describe what the Savior has done for us or the gratitude we have for the Savior I feel. At least I can't put it into words. I am so glad the Savior knows our hearts when words fail us. Makes me cry every time

I will watch this movie again and look to see if his hands were healed in following scenes. The camera lingered on Mr. Heston's hands for a reason. If you can today, read in the Bible ISA. 53. It speaks of the cruxcifiction long before it happened.

I looked it up cause my pastor preached on ho Jesus cares and I thought of this.
@Promthanius The timeline for the movie was just before Jesus was prosecuted. At that time he was very well known among the Roman legions and Jewish leaders. There was a very good piece on the "Learning Channel" that said that the Romans didnt want to really mess with him out of fear of a massive backlash among the people.
That was one reason. The other was simply the power of his presence which the movie displays. Simple, I know, but hope it helps.
@Promthanius I'm guessing His face shone with an unearthly light, stopping the befuddled centurion in his tracks. Judah saw it too and was amazed and filled with the will to live again.
@Promthanius No, Jesus is an unknown carpenter at this point. The Bible speaks nothing of his life besides an incident where he turned water into wine from when he was a very small boy who eluded his parents to go to the temple, to when he was baptized at thirty. The centurion just experienced what it was like to look upon the Son of God and backed the heck down!
One of the classic greatest, epic films of all time. One of the greatest actors who ever lived. To top it all: the first movie to win 11 Oscars. I can go on and on how incredible and beautiful this film really is. If I had a couple of words for this film it would be: Charlton Heston (R.I.P.). Hands down.

Without question my favourite film of all time. I first saw it when I was around 9/10yrs old and this particular scene has stayed with me ever since. I dont think I can watch it without getting emotional, its a very poignant & important moment in the film......... Ed x
Loved the movie and this scene in particular. But...of course, no Roman legionaire would have acted so humbled and shamed in the face of a mere "Jew" which is probably how they saw Jesus, that is, if JC existed at all.
@zoznack You missed the point, Jesus had the power to alter how that Roman soldier saw him and it need not have been a supernatural power he used. There are many mere mortals out there who have the power through presence alone to take command of a situation and bend people to their will. Jesus did in fact exist but whether he was the son of God or not depends of what we choose to believe. Either way it would have been very interesting to meet him or see him in action.
In a way the actor playing the Roman soldier who goes through the transformation from cruel slave driver to a man suddenly awakened to and shamed by his own wickedness at the sight of Jesus is the best performance in the film just in that short scene...marvelous. I bet his conscience forced him to let Ben Hur drink along with the rest of the poor wretches from then on.
@Asskicker32294 In the book he (Ben Hur) had been dragged behind a horse as a means of exhaustion, but after the guard's "encounter" with Jesus, he was placed on the horse and was treated humanely. So powerful in both versions.
I`m not a religious person but i hope i am a compassionate one. I have always loved the scene with the Centurian. It is beautifully acted and directed, it conveys so much to the viewer that words seem redundant. I think it contains more impact than maybe some of the more heavy-handed religious symbolism, of the film`s latter scenes.
1:55 - 2:25: The most powerful scene in the history of cinema.
2 things about that centurion: He was also at the crucifixion, just to the right of the cross, and played Galba in Quo Vadis, near the end, in the chariot, entering Rome. Blink and you'll miss him.
Although at 0:42 he does look like he is going to have a nervous breakdown. Then again not getting water in a hot climate does drive you to that position. Thank God Jesus came!
Interestingly the film is titled: BEN HUR - A TALE OF THE CHRIST. Yet Christ only appears in about 3 scenes. This is definitely my favorite movie of all time. I think it won 11 Oscars. A feat matched all by Titanic and The Lord Of The Rings.
@senorsalazar Jesus has a far stronger presence in the novel. He even speaks. Thus, the "A Tale Of The Christ" subtitle. Also, if the viewer pays close attention, he can sense His presence througout the movie. And I don't wish to sound like a curmudgeon, but Titanic and LOTR were not deserving of all those Oscars. Just more special effects to compensate for subpar and/or downright crummy acting. Lotta that in movies today.
@benhurfanclub Actually I've never read the novel. Thanks for the insight though. Now I'll probably be interested in reading it to see where you're coming from. And you're definitely right about LOTR and Titanic. It was more the special effects which contributed to its Oscar success NOT the acting.
@PostalTubeAlex Best acting in either, for one. Especially LOTR. Too many mumbled lines. I had to wait for it to come out on DVD so's I could use close captioning to learn what the hell they were saying. Painfully dry stuff.
Again, aside from the special effects, neither was worthy of all those Oscars.
@PostalTubeAlex. My bad. I stand corrected. Two awards they didn't deserve were directing and adapted screenplay. The director(s) should have hired speech coaches to do something about all that confounded mumbling. And as for the screenplay, well, let's just say Tolkien would not have been impressed.
But no matter. The Oscars have been a joke for years, at least ever since Silence Of The Lambs won all those statues. Best pic? Jodie Foster best actress?
Thanks for ruining this beautiful scene with the unnecessary logos. The actor who played the centurion gives one of the greatest, albeit shortest performances in the history of film.
when that soldier who beats Judah turns back to look at Jesus, the look on his face, one of shame mixed with rage, going back and forth, reminds me of when I caught my boss goin' at it with his secretary in the office after hours (and he's married) - needless to say I quit, before he could ( and would ) fire me, and then I told his wife. lol
I can!t beleived that Charston Heston was a President of the national Rifle association,an evil membership to join.God didn!t make us weapons,Man did to destroy animals and man.God would have never admitted that.Just like said to moses,it is the staff of a shepard that will led people out of Eygpt.Rather see Charston as a Actor not a Rifleman. God Bless You Heston
@RatDaddy3 Interesting how in one breath you curse millions of people you don't even know in an organization about which you have no clue, while calling God's blessing in the next.
Heston, his integrity, his love for liberty, and and his NRA will always be inseparable. As will the man be from his indomitable character and his forever unmatched acting.
@RatDaddy3 what is so evil about PRESERVING Freedom. Freedom that was PURCHASED by the sacrifice of American soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen and coast guardsmen to keep you FREE. Jesus Christ may have died for your sins, but who purchased your Freedom, Liberty and Independence from those who would take away such rights that you fully enjoy. next time engage brain BEFORE running mouth! Charlton Heston was a DISINGUISHED GENTLEMAN of dignity, honor and courage.
I could not agree more! He 'walked the talk' his entire life. I am proud to call him my favorite actor because he was guided by conviction rather than the pressures of the Hollywood establishment. He spoke his mind and did not care if it was 'popular' with his peers. God Bless his amazing career.
He was indeed an distinguished gentleman of dignity, honor and courage. We are fortunate to have his body of work to enjoy for many years.
@anabeautifulmind Yes, God certainly broke the mold when Charlton Heston was brought into this world. It is sad that we no longer have him with us but the Art for which he is known will remain so long as we remember Mr Heston and watch the movies and keep the spirit alive that he fostered within us.
@anabeautifulmind Not many know this, but Heston was at the forefront of the civil rights movement. He was marching with the black community long before it became fashionable.
@asterixsub Heston was always an ultra conservative asshole, and was marching for civil rights long before it became fashionable with ultra liberal assholes.
@benhurfanclub : You must be mistaken. Marching for civil rights doesn't make you an asshole. However, what he's been promoting lately did make him an asshole, independantly from liberals. Anyway Ben Hur is a great movie, Heston was a charismatic guy.
@dietergrosse He knew that it was his destiny to die for us. He could have but he trusted in God and in doing so paid the ultimate price to give us the gift of salvation.
@MrSpongg Actually, sort of. In the novel, Ben Hur is the lone slave being marched to the galleys, and after Jesus waters him, the centurion takes pity, unties his bindings and lifts him onto his horse.
Wyler EXCELLED at 'less is more' as a director. He drew performances from his actors, including in character roles, they didn't think they were capable of. And by
not insulting his audiences, we fill in what the expression must have been. So it's
@Nukethelotofthem1 It wasn`t meant as a criticism of the film, in fact, it`s one of my favourites. It`s just that with a lot of things over time, an that includes certain cinematic styles, some show their age more than others.
@MrValiant61 A fair point. I saw this film at the " Empire " Leicester Square, London back in 1959 along with several hundred other school kids. I have also read the book many times. This film would never benefit from a remake.
I think I will put this on today waiting for my USCG son to come home for a few hours' visit. Dear God how we miss Charlton Heston. I've been in love with General Wallace's book this film was based on since I was a tiny girl. Just think if everyone did as Jesus did in this film how this world would be.

I don't know what kind of expression Christ was wearing when he eye-balled that sadistic Roman Centurion, but from that mutt's reaction you can tell that all of a sudden he was ashamed of himself.
That's the power of Christs love and mercy. Shame your enemies for the Evil that they do. Ben Hur was saved spiritually. Maybe the Centurion can be too.
I will love it too. The best movie EVER MADE. And this scene, so lovingly depicts who Jesus really is....it captivates me every time. He loves us more than we could ever know.
Yes, Wyler and the scriptwriters (Gore Vidal had a hand in it) employed a water 'motif-theme' in numerous scenes throughout this film. I first saw this movie when I was very young, in the cinema release -on the big screen, it was an overwhelming, even exhausting experience....and changed forever how I observed movies. The cinematography remains, close to perfection.
It truly is one of the most magnificent scenes on film - Ben Hur arrives almost an animal, with just enough possession to beg help. The Roman who would refuse Benny (he doesn't mind me calling him that) water is brilliant - when faced by Jebus he is so deflated and can only resume his brutish manner by main force (you can't help thinking he has been changed already). But drilling down to the scene with the water is even more interesting.
When Benny is at his most desperate in the blazing heat (and isn't the scenery perfect?) lying on the ground, Jebus appears first as a cooling shade (and doesn't it feel such a relief to see it) and then a soothing water (symbol of life) which awakens Ben-Baby from his isolated state. Then the water (still a symbol of life) is but in Benno-Bubbas hands. He reaches a point where he can give back to JC the object of his salvation (life) and in the same action can actually touch Mr Christ.
From that moment he is changed - when he stands up again he is full of dignity (as opposed to pride, which probably ran out about 100km ago). Before he was near death, now he is able to walk upright and at peace. He glances at the bindings on his hands; mere circumstance. He looks like he can complete the march now.
I make no comment as to religion, and certainly not as to the religiosity of the people who wrote this scene, but it is a beautifully choreographed scene, and if bottles of wine in late nights were not part of the production, I will eat my hat.
I cannot emphasise enough the significance of his returnung to Jebus what he had received - a beautiful image illustrating a relationship between us and 'God'ness.
Hello from Malta. Ben-Hur is indeed the greatest movie of all time. No film has ever made such a deep impact on me, no film has been ever so complete including the most important things in life : the Love of God in Jesus , Faith, Romantic Love, True Friendship, and fighting for the Good. With all the technology of today, C.G.I. etc... no film ever reach the level of BEN HUR. It will stands forever.
I looked at the current movies playing at my local cinema in the newspaper today. Shock, horror and stupidity, for the most part. Nothing like this. No splendour, no powerful music, no deeper meanings and, worst of all, no hope. In these dark days, dear Hollywood, people need hope above all...not scenes of destruction as in "2012".
For those who want to keep the mystery, don't! But for those who would like to see the face of this Jesus singing the most romantic love duet ever 10 years after Ben Hur, go to Youtube 'Wagner Tristan Act 2 duet'.
"Where there is faith, there is hope and where there is hope, miracles can happen" I once heard that from someone long long ago, this was truly an epic movie, so inspirational, if only we would all get along, so many lost souls in this world that need to find their respective paths and to save their souls, God bless us all, for we are all his children, and he loves every single one of us. No other movie will ever compare to this one of Ben Hur.
Its always the good ones that leave this world faster then others, but its just how life is, he saved his soul I guess, he was a great actor indeed Charlton Heston, loved his movies so much
The hands of the our Master. Bringing a water that when you drink of it you shall never thrust again. Those hands were nailed to the cross in place of ours. But no nail held to the cross, He was bound by Love... A love for us we will only understand when we are with Him, Amen
The fact we never "see" Jesus' face is key to the scene.
The Roman's quizzical look on his face, I think is also important, It's as though he had NO idea what just happened, which was the point. This was such a intimate and powerful scene. i've seen this film a dozen times, and never tire of it and am always "moved" by the POWER of it's truths.
It's really cool how they portrayed Jesus, I love the part where the centurion looks puzzled for a moment, turns his head to the side, and the music swells high for a moment, like he fleetingly feels there is something else, some other way of life than the imperial dogma of Rome, but he can not place it, and then he returns to his mind. It is a great little moment in movies, you get to glimpse how christianity took hold of the world and how the great roman empire fell. I love this movie!
it is also interesting in the end of the movie, when judah tries to help christ, and how quick and swift the soldiers repel him - it shows how the all-too-strong-protagonist is still powerless before god. also a beautiful scene.
Ben-Hur is the only movie in my life that ever drew a teardrop out of my eye..
Did you ever see the series Charlton did for TV years ago?
It was shot on location all over the Holy Land with Charlton reading scriptures in his wonderful booming voice.
His "convictions" were evident in this series. Also I've read his book, twice, and this man indeed "walks the talk". He and his family attended church regularly. While only God truly knows a person's heart, when I die and go to Heaven, I truly believe Mr.Heston will be there. He was a man of honor and grace..
this is one of my TOP 10 fave movies of all time... Anything that has Charles Heston in it that involves Jesus Christ.. was done with such ... I can't even describe it.
There are many our here who totally agree with you and feel the same way. It's hard to put into feelings the "power" of this film and it's story. More so because I think because Judah Ben Hur was Jewish as was Christ, so our faith, Christianity, was born of it's Jewish roots. It was according to God's plan, even though it's hard to understand His complex over-view for our lives. It's probably a good thing as most would mess up more than they (we) already have.
Exactly.. I can't put it to words. Charles did a wonderful job with his work as an actor and the movies that had Jesus Christ in it. It is just takes my breath away , how he can do something like that with effortless.
I wonder does anyone know If Charles was a Christian?
thanks for remarks! Nope, never taught. What a carreer Lew Wallace had, civil war general, frontier governer and best selling author, also correspondent and advisor to Billy the Kid!
YT has bought a lot of the MGM classics, saw the '62 Mutiny on the Bounty last night, an underated film, but bad history! Brando such a ham! Have you seen it? Best wishes for the operation, my sister had one, its kind of routine.
yes ana, always admired Chuck H, he did theatre training at Northwestern in Evanston, still one of the best, seemed to imbibe the old mid west values, no scandal sheets for Chuck! Yes, Christ's beautiful hands, this scene seems to deliberately reflect the famous Sistine Chapel Michelangelo that opens the film, and when Heston, resigned to death, opens his fingers to Christ's touch, head to toe chillbumps!
thnks ana, my favorite line from this film is after ben Hur and the Roman commander are rescued. Instead of being destroyed they learn Rome has triumphed, the commander then turns to Ben Hur and says, "in his anxiousness to save you, your God has just saved the Roman fleet! "
Always wondered if Gore Vidal, who worked with script had penned that ironic aside!
Whether or not you are Christian is unimportant because this scene reflects a love universal. When faith is strong it can transcend the physical. This is the gift given to humanity but the great pity, especially these days, is that we act worst than the animals and faith belongs only in what one can buy or feel for a short time
Hindu or Christian, you are right Aniketdoc. The film is not only a great epic but a wonderful portrayal of a man who wanted to help all of mankind with his message of love and friendship. Surely this message is universal and not restricted to any one belief system. God bless you.
Where is acting like this today? The anguish Heston shows when he is refused water is so palpable you feel parched with him. The look on his face, after he finishes drinking... that says "I just drank a gallon from that tiny gourd...but how...?" Looking up...you can see the realization in his eyes that his prayer had been answered..
George Clooney, the white trash no-talent hack, made fun of Heston in his final illness. Clooney isn't fit to empty the great mans bedpan. Karma's a bitch, George.
Oldcorps76...so true, bravo. This acting is superb. Heston was a master of his craft, no doubt about it. More importantly, this scene is one of the most moving pieces of film ever created for the cinema. The power of our lord Christ, portrayed so enigmatically, so subtly. And the music, by Dr. Miklos Rozsa...truly divinely inspired. This film hurts me. It hurts me because it reminds me of what power American cinema once projected. Now all that they seem to produce is dross.
Ah Trips, thank you and don't worry about the dross, lack of talent and creativity. Just go numb. Besides...who needs either when you have CGI and Industrial Light and Magic to hit you between the eyes. ;)
Sorry, my cynicism is glaring out...
"what power American cinema once
projected. "
... not to mention, the giants we produced in science, art, literature, politics, and just plain leadership. '...sigh......'
One can find an occasional diamond in the cultural clay. But dig you must...
Simply powerful. This is one of my favorite scenes of any movie. This loving stranger has the power to leave this cruel Roman soldier dumbstruck and can bring hope and the will to survive for Ben-Hur, who has all but given up on life. Beautifully and tenderly done.

Asskicker32294 1 year ago 15
@Asskicker32294 In the book he (Ben Hur) had been dragged behind a horse as a means of exhaustion, but after the guard's "encounter" with Jesus, he was placed on the horse and was treated humanely. So powerful in both versions.

I`m not a religious person but i hope i am a compassionate one. I have always loved the scene with the Centurian. It is beautifully acted and directed, it conveys so much to the viewer that words seem redundant. I think it contains more impact than maybe some of the more heavy-handed religious symbolism, of the film`s latter scenes.
MrValiant61 1 year ago
1:55 - 2:25: The most powerful scene in the history of cinema.
2 things about that centurion: He was also at the crucifixion, just to the right of the cross, and played Galba in Quo Vadis, near the end, in the chariot, entering Rome. Blink and you'll miss him.

Interestingly the film is titled: BEN HUR - A TALE OF THE CHRIST. Yet Christ only appears in about 3 scenes. This is definitely my favorite movie of all time. I think it won 11 Oscars. A feat matched all by Titanic and The Lord Of The Rings.
senorsalazar 1 year ago
@senorsalazar Jesus has a far stronger presence in the novel. He even speaks. Thus, the "A Tale Of The Christ" subtitle. Also, if the viewer pays close attention, he can sense His presence througout the movie. And I don't wish to sound like a curmudgeon, but Titanic and LOTR were not deserving of all those Oscars. Just more special effects to compensate for subpar and/or downright crummy acting. Lotta that in movies today.
benhurfanclub 1 year ago
@benhurfanclub Actually I've never read the novel. Thanks for the insight though. Now I'll probably be interested in reading it to see where you're coming from. And you're definitely right about LOTR and Titanic. It was more the special effects which contributed to its Oscar success NOT the acting.
senorsalazar 1 year ago
@benhurfanclub I would heartily disagree. Name a category that either film didn't deserve to win!
PostalTubeAlex 1 year ago
@PostalTubeAlex Best acting in either, for one. Especially LOTR. Too many mumbled lines. I had to wait for it to come out on DVD so's I could use close captioning to learn what the hell they were saying. Painfully dry stuff.
Again, aside from the special effects, neither was worthy of all those Oscars.
benhurfanclub 1 year ago
@benhurfanclub I meant name a category that LOTR won that it didn't deserve to win. They didn't get any oscars for acting.
PostalTubeAlex 1 year ago
@PostalTubeAlex. My bad. I stand corrected. Two awards they didn't deserve were directing and adapted screenplay. The director(s) should have hired speech coaches to do something about all that confounded mumbling. And as for the screenplay, well, let's just say Tolkien would not have been impressed.
But no matter. The Oscars have been a joke for years, at least ever since Silence Of The Lambs won all those statues. Best pic? Jodie Foster best actress?
Gimme a break.
benhurfanclub 1 year ago
Thanks for ruining this beautiful scene with the unnecessary logos. The actor who played the centurion gives one of the greatest, albeit shortest performances in the history of film.

Wyler EXCELLED at 'less is more' as a director. He drew performances from his actors, including in character roles, they didn't think they were capable of. And by
not insulting his audiences, we fill in what the expression must have been. So it's
never over-acting.

HARRY53AUSM 2 years ago 2
It truly is one of the most magnificent scenes on film - Ben Hur arrives almost an animal, with just enough possession to beg help. The Roman who would refuse Benny (he doesn't mind me calling him that) water is brilliant - when faced by Jebus he is so deflated and can only resume his brutish manner by main force (you can't help thinking he has been changed already). But drilling down to the scene with the water is even more interesting.
0gnulauqa 2 years ago 3
When Benny is at his most desperate in the blazing heat (and isn't the scenery perfect?) lying on the ground, Jebus appears first as a cooling shade (and doesn't it feel such a relief to see it) and then a soothing water (symbol of life) which awakens Ben-Baby from his isolated state. Then the water (still a symbol of life) is but in Benno-Bubbas hands. He reaches a point where he can give back to JC the object of his salvation (life) and in the same action can actually touch Mr Christ.
0gnulauqa 2 years ago 2
From that moment he is changed - when he stands up again he is full of dignity (as opposed to pride, which probably ran out about 100km ago). Before he was near death, now he is able to walk upright and at peace. He glances at the bindings on his hands; mere circumstance. He looks like he can complete the march now.
0gnulauqa 2 years ago 2
I make no comment as to religion, and certainly not as to the religiosity of the people who wrote this scene, but it is a beautifully choreographed scene, and if bottles of wine in late nights were not part of the production, I will eat my hat.
0gnulauqa 2 years ago 2
I cannot emphasise enough the significance of his returnung to Jebus what he had received - a beautiful image illustrating a relationship between us and 'God'ness.
0gnulauqa 2 years ago
Hello from Malta. Ben-Hur is indeed the greatest movie of all time. No film has ever made such a deep impact on me, no film has been ever so complete including the most important things in life : the Love of God in Jesus , Faith, Romantic Love, True Friendship, and fighting for the Good. With all the technology of today, C.G.I. etc... no film ever reach the level of BEN HUR. It will stands forever.
Blueangel651 2 years ago 2
I looked at the current movies playing at my local cinema in the newspaper today. Shock, horror and stupidity, for the most part. Nothing like this. No splendour, no powerful music, no deeper meanings and, worst of all, no hope. In these dark days, dear Hollywood, people need hope above all...not scenes of destruction as in "2012".

ABSOLUTELY!!!! Where are films like this today?
The fact we never "see" Jesus' face is key to the scene.
The Roman's quizzical look on his face, I think is also important, It's as though he had NO idea what just happened, which was the point. This was such a intimate and powerful scene. i've seen this film a dozen times, and never tire of it and am always "moved" by the POWER of it's truths.
anabeautifulmind 2 years ago 2
It's really cool how they portrayed Jesus, I love the part where the centurion looks puzzled for a moment, turns his head to the side, and the music swells high for a moment, like he fleetingly feels there is something else, some other way of life than the imperial dogma of Rome, but he can not place it, and then he returns to his mind. It is a great little moment in movies, you get to glimpse how christianity took hold of the world and how the great roman empire fell. I love this movie!
kakabukkake0 2 years ago
it is also interesting in the end of the movie, when judah tries to help christ, and how quick and swift the soldiers repel him - it shows how the all-too-strong-protagonist is still powerless before god. also a beautiful scene.

Take care~
anabeautifulmind 2 years ago 2
Exactly.. I can't put it to words. Charles did a wonderful job with his work as an actor and the movies that had Jesus Christ in it. It is just takes my breath away , how he can do something like that with effortless.

Whether or not you are Christian is unimportant because this scene reflects a love universal. When faith is strong it can transcend the physical.
Karma's a bitch, George.
oldcorps76 2 years ago 2
Oldcorps76...so true, bravo. This acting is superb. Heston was a master of his craft, no doubt about it. More importantly, this scene is one of the most moving pieces of film ever created for the cinema. The power of our lord Christ, portrayed so enigmatically, so subtly. And the music, by Dr. Miklos Rozsa...truly divinely inspired. This film hurts me. It hurts me because it reminds me of what power American cinema once projected. Now all that they seem to produce is dross.
tripsadelica 2 years ago 2
Ah Trips, thank you and don't worry about the dross, lack of talent and creativity. Just go numb. Besides...who needs either when you have CGI and Industrial Light and Magic to hit you between the eyes. ;)

"what power American cinema once
