  • The gods of music all in one stage, i need to worship at the alter ASAP

  • How possible they're all together before they're famous? Elvis, Carl & Johnny were all recording for Sun Records at the time, probably out on a package tour (Jerry Lee Lewis would eventually record for Sun too). They were playing in Lubbock, Texas, which was Buddy's home town. I believe Buddy was backstage visiting, but was not actually on the bill.

  • Hmm, this must be fake.

The universe would implode if this much awesome was in the same room at the same time.

  • Buddy Holly DID NOT perform that show! it was setup by the radio promoter who was working with buddy but there was not enough space on the bill for buddy!

  • Johnny dressed in white?

  • Comment removed

  • I think this was filmed in Lubbock, Tx. Holly is from here which is my hometown as well and Elvis and the gang were on tour in West Texas a lot. Stage is at Lubbock High School.

  • wow! never thought I would see this!!!!!!!!!!!! I had heard that Elivs did go to see Buddy but now it is even real!

  • @clearmtlake Actually it was buddy holly that went to see Elvis. Paul McCartney did a documentary about Buddy Holly called the Real Buddy Holly or something like that, and in it the Crickets talked about that night they all met Elvis Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins when this video was taken.

  • It's so sad to look them knowing what's going to happened to these young men.

  • WOW ALL THOSE LEGENDS IN ONE ROOM AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!BEFORE ANY OF THEM KNEW IT!!1THATS JUST PLAIN AWESOME!!

  • Fathers of rock n roll? i think not.. IKE TURNER recorded ROCKET 88 the first rock n roll recording, under the name of his baritone sax player jackie brenston... so yea, they are together, but they are not fathers....

  • long live rock 'n' roll

    Scotty Moore is fantastic !

  • yeah sir... scotty is one of my favorite guitarist.

  • one people miss there: chuck berry.

  • This is just priceless!

  • Happy Birthday, KING!

  • did you all know that Slim Whitman toured along with these guys too....and Slim was generally billed above Elvis' name and others too...an he was paid more than them too & Slim is country music singer and they were rock n roll singers...Slim got $500 to their $100 or $50 per nite of a show.Kewl gem hunh?

  • @redwing46901 I'm pretty sure that probably was only true for a handful of gigs.

  • @GOODY61 -If you could find a copy of the book about Slim Whitman's career, you will find it was true for quite sometime. The book was called Mr.Songman.It was very interesting. And the Whitman family is a very nice polite family.I have had the opprotunity of meeting them and having them in my hometown for a concert too.I do not deny that Elvis was a great singer-I just think it was sad how his voice came to a ending.

  • @redwing46901 No way Presley continued opening for Whitman beyond the spring of 55. If you look at the youtube videos of Presley in the last year, he could still have great moments vocally in the months leading up to his death.

  • @GOODY61 If you check online Slim Whitman at age 84 has recently released a new CD and also has one in the works for next summer too! Can you tell me just how many Elvis has recently wrote himself and released?

  • @redwing46901 Stupid point and has no bearing on what we were talking about.

Most people have never heard of Whitman, nearly the whole world knows about Elvis. Elvis may have opened a few shows for Whitman before Elvis exploded on the scene. This is just a minor forgotton footnote in history. Nobody will really remember Whitman except for his family and an extremely small fan club which I guess your a part of. How about that !

  • @GOODY61 I am not knocking the music that Elvis has made over the years here. But what I am saying is Slim is alive, well and going strong and as far as what other people may think of him he is a very nice fella is putting out great hits too! And he has a huge following believe it or not .

    slim whitman universe dot com

  • @redwing46901 Elvis hasn't released anything in over 30 years, but how many #1's did Slim Whitman get in last 10 years, because Elvis got 4, in England in last 10 years. I like Slim Whitman, believe it or not, with his yodeling, but you cant compare the 2 careers. Elvis changed the world, Slim Whitman is just a footnote in history.

  • The Complete Million Dollar quartet CD.

Elvis, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis do a long Jam session together Dec 4th 56 Sun Studios Memphis....available online.

  • fucking EPIC!!

  • my god its a congregation of genius!!!

  • Just Orbison is missing in this clip..but the rest of the rockabilly legends is in there.Amazing!!!!

  • WOW

  • At elvis's first gigs the women laughed at his leg wobbles but were screaming before the song finished

  • What a night that must have been. I would love to have a time machine and to be there.

  • YouTube is amazing.

  • @cw1310 holy fucking shit... the fathers of rock are together!

  • @cw1310 i guess this video is from the heaven????

  • If only they knew what legends they would become and how they would impact everyone's life. Man did they ever Rock us all. May all of them Rest in Peace and never be forgotten.

  • Too cool for school!

  • Wow! thats brilliant, thanks for sharing.

  • 0:01 HAHAHAH

  • that would be soooo cool to see all them in concert on the same bill, at that age.

  • Yeah, I know! I mean imagine seeing all of them. I honestly, once I really think about it, I can't imagine what it would be like. Awesome vid though!

  • In the begining we are looking at Scotty Moore. Great video.

  • WoW!!!!

  • I LOVE ELVIS

  • one hell of a prom hahaha!

  • And the rest is music history....

  • this was rock and roll in the making .

  • AAHHHH! this is amazing!!! I love them all!!!

  • Good lord! Did you see how young Johnny Cash looked! He was still wet behind the ears!

  • i know! thats what i thought , he was so cute!

  • Wow. Such rare footage. They all look so handsome and happy. Reminds me of the song "where have all the flowers gone." Where are my generations heroes? *sigh*

  • That's a fantastic song. My dad just played it for me a couple weeks ago. And indeed America is a changing place.

  • LEGENDS!!!ROCK N ROLL GODS!!!

  • Wheres Dewey Cox ??...

  • How come they did a gig in a high school? students ball or something?

  • i like elvis and all but for me BUDDY HOLLY is the best hands down, unlike elvis he wrote his own stuff and was a better guitarist, but with out elvis, buddy probably would have still been singing western music, because it was elvis that turned buddy. RIP guys

  • Thanks so much for this :D

  • So rare and lucky a fan chosen that day to film ! to catch the legends.

  • I go to the high school in this video

  • This video was shot ages ago, why are you still at the school?

  • The school is still in operation and I go there. Lubbock High's 100th graduating class graduated last may.

  • Oh right I see. What happens to those who graduate not?

  • Do they recognize the history of what happened there?

  • awesome!!

  • which documentary is this from?

  • I agree with oneeyedgeek, if you could have a time machine and go back to that night. These men were the founding fathers of modern music, without them trailing the way, most of us would still be listening to crooners and big band stuff "nothing wrong with that" but I couldn't imagine a world without rock'n'roll. Keep on Rockin, where ever you are. Best Wishes Mark

  • Me too

Probably the greatest group of musicians ever gathered together at one gig

    Great post Thanks poozhaan

  • Buddy Hollys early death was an unbelievable tragedy

    R.i.p guys

  • Cool stuff. I saw a photo or a short video ages ago of this stuff - think it was in a J.Cash documentary.

  • yh I got that footage on a free documentary that came with a cash C.D I bought I think

  • I'm pretty sure I saw it on the The Last Great American documentary about Johnny. I can't think of where else I likely saw it tbh.

  • Ahhh yeah that was it. On T.V I watched it a months ago

  • Man, this is amazing, legends of all time, all in the same room. AWESOME.

  • I totally agree with you feb0402.. there will never again (in our lifetime) be a gathering of such legends that made such a fundamental contribution to 'music'..even as we know it today...!!!

  • insane!

    all of them

    backstage

ahhh how much do u wish you could be there!

  • SON LOS MEJORES

  • Can you imagine being a kid at the concert, watching these "unknown" singers? Then years later realizing you probably saw history in the making! Incredible!

  • @oneeyedgeek

Don't forget to mention: "Being so very lucky and blessed to have lived in those days."

  • Gotta love this amazing video! The year is 1955 and its color! Wooow!

  • Johnny Cash!!!!!!

  • é baCANA!

  • very good video quality for those days.... I didn't even realized they had color tv's back then

  • .... legends caught on film .

  • Comment removed

  • Nicely put!!!

  • LOL

  • I have to concede to the cynics. There's really no evidence that Perkins, Presley, Cash and Holly were at the same place, at the same time. It would have been cool. It just didn't happen. I hate when I'm duped.

  • what do you mean you tool! cash and presley were in sun all the time together! muppet... perkins was good mates with them all, so was buddy you werent there man you dont have a clue!

  • At the very least it is well documented and confirmed by Holly's family and friends that Buddy and Elvis were at least in the same building together when Elvis performed in Lubbock. Whether Buddy performed with him is another story, and whether Cash and Perkins were actually there is too, but Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley were indeed together.

Huh, the Father of Rock and the so-called King of it....forgive me if, as a hardcore Holly fan, I have a certain disdain for Elvis :S

  • There's a famous photo, presumably taken the same night, with all 4 of them in it together. Are you saying they had photoshop back in 1955?

  • ive been trying to think of something to say here but you have hit the nail right on the head.

  • great video

  • To those people who criticise Elvis for not writing his own music I Say to them!!! Every great songwriter is not a great singer, and every great singer is not a great songwriter. The best option is to combine the two.

  • if you can't write your own music you shouldn't play music, that's just shallow.

  • There has not been a musician in history who only played their own music !! By your standards there would be no music, When a child pickes up an instrument for the first time, do they immediatly Start composing ? I think not.

  • Stevie Wonder?

  • What an impressive grouping of talent! Wish i could have been there.

  • Really an incredible piece of american musical history

  • Wow, that was one lucky high school...

  • Right?

  • These guys changed music. The music they created changed the world forever. It's difficult for young guys to imagine the excitment just hearing this music created back in the day. Up to then it was Frank, Dean, Bing.... then they got giggy with it.

  • giggy???? you mean jiggy?????

  • rudoscrew,joelmc73,and sebere2k6. you can go home now,

you all dismissed from this page! having on opinion is one

thing, trash talk is another. if you don't like rock and roll than

it's fine, but if you accidently checked into this page and try to do some harm,in the image of this people than you can get

the biggest backlash in history man. they might not be the greatest musicians, but surely one of the greatest entertainers of they time.if you don't dig that, than just

shut your mouth and get out

  • Jesus, Joseph, Mary and all the unraped camels of Arabia! What wouldn't I have given to be at THAT gig! These guys - whether you know it and like it or not - shaped music for the next half century - probably mre.

  • very good..!!

  • what the fuck do you mean by that?

  • All that stupidity in one post.

  • youre a fucking idiot. What? Cuz theyre from the south that makes them racist? Rock n Roll during that time was considered "black music." So they were a part of the black subculture. Jesus fucking christ, you are ignorant.

  • they opened the door for black artists they were anything but racists, Buddy Holly was the first white artist to play at the apollo and Elvis is just great and anti racist "if you hate someone because of their race then your hating a part of yourself" Elvis Presley

  • Thank you sirs. I will change my ways. You have educated me.

  • Im just going to ignore the sarasm there and say im actually female, although male is good

  • I was being serious.
