At one time, Kobe had huge Suzuki corporation which was the biggest company in Japan during Taisho era. It bankrupted but left a lot of subsidiary companies. Kobe still has Suzuki's legacy.
hehe I think it's funny how the men that take away the supports are wearing hard hats...like that would make much difference if the ship were to fall on them...lol
That would have been very cool to see live. Don't think I would have liked being one of those guys under it removing the wooden stabilizers though haha
That song is "The Washington Post March" by John Philip Sousa. Kind of a strange choice for the launching of a Japanese ship but I guess they like the sound of it.
There are quite a few excellent videos that I think should be featured. Unfortunately YouTube usually features videos I don't think are very good or interesting. I wish there was something I could do about this.
That was freaking awesome. I have a friend that works up in Yokohama for a ship builder. I'm totally gonna see if I can watch a launching. I wonder how often it happens.
Holy crap!!! that was awesome. I was super shocked when it just started rolling into the water lol. Thanks for sharing! What an amazing experience to see first hand!

What I would love to see one day is a side-launch as per watch?v=64dAv9sk7GE or watch?v=b1jmbUHhYGw. Now THAT is crazy stuff!
votejj 2 years ago
When I first started watching this, I thought "Ok, ships are cool and everything, but what's so interesting about one being launched?"
And then I watched the rest.....
....That was quite majestic looking. 8-D
Now I want to see one in person...
Thanks for sharing! :D

Very cool. That would be fun to see a brand new ship being launched.
I bet they release ships like that all the time from the dry docks here in Halifax, but I've never actually seen it happen.
6663000 2 years ago
Hard to believe there were people under that ship pushing out supports by hand!

wow that ship launched very quickly for it's size! That is surprising.
Virginislandsnow 2 years ago
I was kind of worried for a moment that "Tragedy" would hit and there would be a HUGE accident.
But damn for a boat that big, it sure was launched pretty fast.

YEah...I would have really enjoyed seeing a frigate or destroyer being launched!
BusanKevin 2 years ago
That was fantastic! Interesting in this day and age of technology that they topple the supports manually.
coconutpanda 2 years ago
So true. It's 2009 and they were just using a good ole sledge hammer and their hands!
BusanKevin 2 years ago
Ahhh Awesome, Super cool.! And of course the American instrumental background lol.

Wow! That was a pretty big ship. Do you have any video of the propellers?
freakmrhyde 2 years ago
No I don't. I didn't get to the ear of the ship.
BusanKevin 2 years ago
The "propeller" of a ship is its "wheel", or sometimes it's "screw."
uglyengineer 2 years ago
Maritime tradition is a big deal, it was probably a champagne bottle.
uglyengineer 2 years ago
You are probably right! I know sailors are a superstitious lot. I'm sure shipbuilders are as well!

Nice video, a ship launch is one thing I also want to experience, special a big one.

MicknFumi 2 years ago
Not at all....that seemed like a rather scary job! I doubt the little helmets they were wearing would help them much if the ship suddenly slipped!
BusanKevin 2 years ago
Cool video. I like watching anything made with large amounts of metal. Does that make me a crow?

What was with the American "ra ra" music??
Always makes me cringe when I hear that in Japan..

That song is "The Washington Post March" by John Philip Sousa. Kind of a strange choice for the launching of a Japanese ship but I guess they like the sound of it.
DerSchnurrbart 2 years ago
Yeah.. they play it at Japanese school events sometimes when there are marching bands and stuff too..
TheJapanChannelDcom 2 years ago
I often hear Japanese marching bands playing Sousa's pieces. Very common and odd....to hear in Japan!
BusanKevin 2 years ago
it always does feel oddly out of place to hear American marching music played by Japanese bands!
