Looking back on this video. . . I have to laugh because he cannot use Kazooie's running and jumping to gain speed, as in the rest of the playthrough, and instead has to roll and hop repeatedly.

How. . . inconvenient.

Did you watch the video? It's when, instead of just talon trotting, the player jumps and uses the sliding phase of the landing to get a temporary boost.

That was amazing. My fastest time for the first level was 10:24 you done it in under 8 minutes. Completely Amazing

His final time was 5.15 I believe. Under 8 minutes is easily achieveable without TAS.

XBLA version is completely different and any level times on it should not be compared to those on the N64. You can't skip most text on the XBLA, but you don't need honeycombs, don't need to exit the level or hit the witch switch and you can break the level up into 'segments' which you can choose to do at any time, allowing you to prepare yourself before doing certain parts of the level (for example, collecting 5 mumbo tokens outside of Mumbo's Mountain to give to Mumbo instead of those in MM).

but does beating grunty and collecting all items: notes and mumbo tokens also matter, or does this just needlessly increase your time ?

You only need 100 jiggies and 900 notes. As soon as you've got all that you quit to the menu to get the lowest time possible. Everything after that does not matter.

AND i was right about running with kazooie: make a small jump, then keep on jumping so you don't slow down after the slide ^^

A TAS is a tool-assisted speed run. Its where they try and get through the game as fast as they can by using glitches. You see a lot of them for N64 games.

Yep, both done by Rare. That includes the Diddy Kong Racing and the DKC games as well. However, those charms were made when Rare was with Nintendo, and now that it's with Microsoft it's not doing so well. Oh well, at least they still cater somewhat to fans.
