  • Dudemel does an incredible job. The chorus in average as are the soloists. Orchestra does fantastic. Terrible german annunciation chorus - new coach needed.

  • I want to buy the DVD of this. Is it out yet?

  • When the soprano begins at 1:58, that is the time I always feel so glad to be alive. This work of art attempts more than any other in the Romantic movement, and even in its failures it is glorious. This version of the Symphony is the most powerful ever recorded, and I cannot wait to hear it on cd. Typical Californians clap in the middle whatever lol.

  • Dudamel's interpretation is brilliant. I've never seen Choral performed by such huge & colorful chorus. The men's staccato at 5:12 is also powerful.

  • I love the way the afro-american lady sings!! :D

  • Oh my dear Lord this is amazing work. Thank you for posting. This is a gift that elevates us to a higher spiritual plane.

  • Imagine hearing the very first performance of this.

  • Love his conducting style. Its not just show flailing, it serves a purpose; to guide the orchestra (check part with applause interruption) and to give a very simple display of expression, rather than flashy acrobatics.

  • All I get from this video is pure freude.

  • Dudamel RULEZ!

  • Excelente!! Dios..... gracias te doy por permitirme escuchar esto!!

  • 3:45 He seems quite annoyed, don't blame him.

  • Where on earth did you get this video? It's almost professional quality, and the beethoven Ninth by Dudamel is NOT available on DVD.

  • @al1936ful Long story short, LA Phil released a free broadcast over the internet for 36 hours following the live concert. If you have the right software...

  • @WilliamSGilbert this is his first performance with the LA PHIL is what i assume you mean. his actual inaugural concert was Mahler 1st symphony i saw that live on pbs

  • @al1936ful ripped it off the LA Phil's site when it was broadcasting it for 36 hours following the live performance.

  • @WilliamSGilbert Now we can all enjoy. Thanks for posting; loved the soprano and bass (they are exceptional). Also, loved the many different people of all backgrounds enjoying their art in a beautiful way. This is what it is all about

  • 7:16 <3 epic moment!

  • Who's the bass ?

  • Matthew Rose

  • Thanks man

  • Having said that, I think the chorus was amazing, I can forgive their mispronunciation of certain German parts since I don't think every single one is fluent in German :P, but I thought together they sounded very nice. The LA Philharmonic of course, did an amazing job. Hopefully sometime in the future I can find a concert that's NOT sold out that I can attend to see Dudamel live.

  • I think Dudamel picked a great Bass/Baritone and a fantastic Tenor. He picked a decent Alto, though it's hard to tell since she hardly has any significant parts except while singing with the other three, and the soprano he chose wasn't very good, I think. To me her voice just seemed like she wasn't really hitting any note since she seems to love using her vibrato to the point where it's not hitting a single note and it's to the point where it kind of destroys the music.

  • I`m a tenor, and i was singing the 9th, several times 8sory my foreing english, i speak spanish) and the soprano is LOVELY... and her voice IT`S A BEAUTIFULL TOOO.

  • If you say so...she's practically screaming, an American "technique". Listen to more European singers and you'd see what I mean. And no, I'm not anti-American, since I live here and was born here, however, the talent here is so low. And the singers who ARE good like Barbara Hendricks, are singers who've spent time in Europe. This lady is not hitting a single note, and she's practically screaming...

  • I will appreciate if some one let me know the name of the

singer in black dress. She is a celestial singer

  • Watch how despite of the public out of time applause

the orchestra hold until the director gave them the order to continue. Dudamel counts.

  • Yeah, I think he wanted them to hear the next couple quiet B-flat notes with the Contrabassoon instead of continuing and making the notes inaudible. Most of the time in cases like that, the conductor just keeps on going and the audience usually quiets down...of course, that's in places like Europe or somewhere on the east coast, here in Los Angeles the audience isn't as educated, sadly.

  • @pyramideer In a performance of a symphony, the public should not be allowed to applaud until after the whole symphony is over. That is standard procedure in classical concerts. it gives the piece more continuity.

Those who applauded in the wrong place should be better informed. They should go out and buy a CD or a DVD of the Beethoven Ninth and listen to it before making a gaffe like that.

  • @al1936ful How does one enforce that? And historians of classical music will point out that for many centuries it was customary for audiences to applaud between movements and even at high points within movements. Beethoven would probably find it odd having a silent audience after such powerful movements such as the fifth's first movement or any movement really. Now etiquette says people should not applaud, but if the audience is moved by a piece and it happens, it comes across as a compliment.
