Hi. My dog does the same thing, vet is suggesting it might be bronchitis either related to asthma or virus. He is surrently treated with cortisone and it really helps but I want to find another treatment as the cortisone is very strong medication. Anyway when my dog has them, I try to lift his front paws up so he kinda sits on his bottom, that clears his airways and helps his breath normal.
Reverse sneeze, my dog does this too. The vet says cover her nose to try get her to swallow and it should stop. Says it's harmless as long as its not an every day thing.
Looks like reverse sneezing to me. Reflexes can set this off. Offer a treat and if he takes it, that can stop it. Sometimes it takes months for the reflex not to kick in. Sometimes swallowing or food can cause it, and equally food can relax it. I hope he is better now!
yes this is a asthma attack. its because of its short snout. My pug does that and we got him cheacked out so no need to worry. just get him nose drops and he will be fine :)
Researching this for 5 minutes, Kennel Cough seems to sound like a croaking with a cough at the end and its dog flu, Reverse Sneezing seems to sound like a corse croak and a collapsing trachea has a squealing with a croak associated with it. A simple way to test is to massage the throat collapsing trachea will cause the beast to cough instantly. I don't like leases and collars.
hello, I'm from Mexico so I can't speak english very good, I just want to know if this is something serious 'cause my dog does the same thing that yours, and I don't know whats wrong with him.. how can I help him :S
insert your finger down her throat- it separates the membranes- they stick together ocassionaly- stops the attack inmediately, no secondary effects- I own 4 shih- - one time the attack was so severe in desperation I inserted my finger down the throat- it stopped the attack inmediately- try it- advice all pekingese, pug, shih and other small short snout breed owners- May
my dog does this too. my vet told me to give him part of a benadryl tablet. My dog is 20 pounds, and i give him 1/2 of a 25 mg tablet in something he likes to eat (like a lil piece of cheese or a lil bit of peanut butter) He has allergies and that helps with it. It also helps with the panic side of it too. Because it is a very scarey thing for mom and dad and the poor dog. Its a great lil tip. (i love my vet)
hi, my dog had this problem today for the first time. thanks to this video we were relieved to know that its not something life-threatening. it is such a scary thing to see the poor thing in so much trouble though. if u find any sure diagnosis and treatment for it, please do post it here. thanks a lot
I also found this. Thanks to Cabopc person for the diagnosis! Laryngospasm (Reverse Sneezing) It is a condition that sounds as if the dog can't take a breath. During a spasm the dog will usually
turn it's elbows outward and extend it's neck while gasping inwards producing a loud snorting
She does this EXACT thing. she tences up will come over to me when its starting to happen, and does that weird breathing thing.
I've noticed ( and this is weird) but if u massage the "blatter area"/hind legs in a circler motion and push firmly, it helps. Don't do it too hard though, you want the dog to be comfortable.
Again I'm no doctor, just letting you know what helps my pup! It's def. a scary thing.
Did you guys find out what was wrong with him? My mothers dog does exactly the same thing. I keep telling her to take him to the vet but she won't listen to me.
Our Pomeranian does that..The vet says it might be a collapsing trachea..I am thinking both our dogs have Asthma..Good luck and please keep us updated!
my dog just had one of those. You just have to comfort them and rub on them and it will eventually go away. I get so worried about my dog.

It's thought that the spasm can be caused by a number of irritants, from the dog running
around, drinking too fast or excitement can cause reverse sneezing. Although this may appear to be
scary, it only lasts a few seconds and can be ended faster by making the dog swallow. This is
accomplished by massaging the dog's neck or by closing the dog's nostrils with your fingers,
simply forcing them to breathe through their mouths and to swallow.

This is called Laryngospasm or Reverse Sneezing. It's not really known what causes it and there's no cure. Fortunately, it's harmless.
