Wow....what whores. The both of them. So she is undressing herself in front of a married man because she obviously wants him. That is NOT okay. And he is letting himself get into this situation, even though it'd be real easy to walk away and not risk anything. Also NOT okay. This scene is just all around not okay. At All! Hollywood, stop making movies with cheating spouses- especially if you're trying to make it romantic.
@slinkmanlover14 That's the point of this scene - it's clearly not okay but they're trying to make it okay (and later in the movie you see that it DOESN'T work and he ends up all alone)... so it's a scene showing how 'innocently' an affair can start
@kadh09 Oh, okay. As you probably guessed, I haven't seen the movie. I was just very angry, because I've seen enough movies that involve cheating, and try to make it look romantic in some sense. I actually hated that scene in The Notebook where she cheats on her fiance because of the heat of the moment- yes, I do know that she later confesses, but that didn't make it okay to me. So, thanks for telling me that at least they made the relationship fail later. :) That's good to know.
@slinkmanlover14 but Noah was her first love! The only reason they parted ways was because her parents forced her to and all that time she believed he didn't care. All 365 letters he had sent were taken away. When she cheated, it wasn't lust, it was love that had been exiled for years.
@Angel24TG Okay, I'll try not to sound harsh when I say this, but: So what!? She STILL cheated. She was engaged to a man she had fallen in love with, or at least had feelings for. Even if she didn't, just because Noah showed up, and they had really been in love, doesn't give Allie ANY right to cheat on her fiance and break his trust. Allie had several YEARS of thinking he forgot her to move on from him. If she hadn't at that point, then Lons should never had come into the picture.
@slinkmanlover14 it's better that they had met up BEFORE the marriage in this scenario. And though things got carried away they were in the moment, imagine her getting married and having kids, then running into Noah.. She would have regretted it just as her mother regretted marrying her father. Yes she cheated, yes cheating is wrong, but we aren't 5 anymore, sometimes there's more to just right and wrong.
@Angel24TG ps: For future reference if you decide to respond: I think the idea of soul mates is complete bull shit. I believe that there are many people who are compatible with you, some more than others, but no such thing as one true partner. I also believe love is a feeling and a choice. I think Allie is stupid, and I also think Rose from Titanic is stupid. I think it's stupid that they thought there wasn't ONE other guy in the world that could make them as happy as their "true loves" had.
@slinkmanlover14 well I respect your opinions, everyone is entitled to their own perspective. I don't believe in soul mates either, but I find it nice to think that one day I will find a guy that I'll spend the rest of my life with happily. I think love is a feeling as well, but I don't know if I'd personally be able to control it, just as I can't control my feelings of sadness when someone close passes away.
Hmm...true; there can be more to a scenario than it seems. I do sometimes see in black and white. While cheating is cheating, it is clear that it wasn't what Allie had intended to do that day...
I must say, though, that I think it best we don't venture further into this. Not because it's not a good conversation, but because I can't do "deep thinking" without not forming my thoughts properly. It always makes sense in my head, but I can't communicate it right.
@slinkmanlover14 everyone sometimes sees in black and white, including myself, it's all about perspective. Yes, she definitely did not plan for that, nor had she known he sent letters and was still in love with her.
Alright yeah I know where you're coming from ahah.
@slinkmanlover14 I'd have to disagree on the last part though.. Rose did remarry happily and have kids.. So she did fall in love again. That was just a memory on the ship that she cherished. She carried on and lived her life. Allie did fall in love again, it just wasn't as strong. What about the male roles? Noah couldn't move on from Allie.. He built the house SHE wanted and wouldn't sell it. Jack cared so much for Rose, that he basically sacrificed his own life for her to live on..
@Angel24TG Ah, yeah, I usually forget the male roles. Probably because I can't see a real guy actually acting like that, so my bad on those parts. Not saying they wouldn't, but it just doesn't seem plausible, at least not nowadays. But they should have moved on too.
I think there are multiple people out there for everyone, so there are plenty of people who will want to spend their lives with you. But I believe in realistic love. It is patient, kind, sacrificial, and goes deeper than passion.
@slinkmanlover14 Yeah well those guys aren't everywhere, but I'm sure there's some. But that's easier said than done. Once you form such a close bond with another that you believe it will carry on forever, letting go and moving onto another doesn't just occur at the snap of your fingers. Even if you did find another who will want to spend their life with you, it doesn't mean you'd want to spend your life with them after you just had your heart crushed..
@slinkmanlover14 Even with realistic love, it's not something you come by everyday.. once you find that person you'd sacrifice anything for, it's hard to let go and then become re-attached to another.
@Angel24TG Heh, I will reply to this...and THEN I'm done ;). Right, I'm don't think that the feelings are for just anyone. You definitely have to be attracted to them first. And when you do find that love, it can take a VERY LONG time for you to move on. Of course you will mourn anyone you loved deeply, but there comes a time when you realize you have to get passed it. You don't forget them, but I think you have to want to keep going and not let yourself be depressed and sad forever. That's all.
@odell1234 I think they'd have a hard time not stopping and staring for a bit, at any naked woman, really, but walking away is as simple as doing the proper thing and overriding the inner perv. Hard yes, but far from impossible. Its called morals.
Remember, I didn't know the plot to this portion of the movie, thus is my eyes the husband was letting himself cheat on his wife- whom, I thought, he loved. I thought he was cheating and thinking it was okay.
