So I need help with vocals. I want to take vocals of a song and use them in a track, but is there a way to just take the vocals out of a song without any of the music?
Is it wise when mastering to also do the individual scenes as well, ala Alloy? Or is it better just to deal with all that with an overall mastering ala Ozone 4? I ask as I've recently realized I get too caught up in mastering before I even do any arrangement as I want the bass and kicks to be really punchy and aggressive.
@WodensRaven What you are doing is not mastering. The mastering process is finalizing the sound after the mix has been done to be released. Making sounds "punch and aggressive" means your just working on your sound (sound design is beginning processes). Alloy is used on individual channels to help with the "Mixing" process (having everything sounding correctly together). Suggestion: arrange first, then perfect sounds within them after its laid out (save you tons of time in the long run).
No disrespect, but I feel like he did not explain/show how limiting is used 100% correctly. For instance: 3:05 mark the "loss in volume" is not relevant. The -0.3dB is the max the 2bus will go so you don't clip (distortion). Volume is based on how much the listener turns up the final products gain. @7:20 you cannot compare two tracks side by side w/ differences in volume (matter of acoustics). To see the effects of limiting/compression both before and after need to be at same output.
Pro Tip- use the time adjuster delay plug in in pro tools. to find the off set of izotope ozone, press command option on the stereo track to find the delay. enter that number in your time adjuster plug in
So limiter first ? then ? eq ? Reverb ? Multiband compressor ? what chain is the way to go ? ..

Voxengo's Elephant is a great alternative as is PSP's Xenon. If you're on a budget try DDMF's NoLimits - $29.
It will be very interesting to see what Ozone 5 brings...................
