even worse: it is not their money, it also is ours! - but: I am happy to see my taxes going there, because the vast majority of people living below the poverty treshold do not misuse the little money they get and would be happy to work hard for more
I will not (and you shouldn't) be irritated by a few bad examples which you might have in mind.
Even if you think this cannot possibly happen to you: would you buy beer and cigarettes if you were short of money?
I feel that Europe is loosing its competitivity and we've been facing difficulties like we didn't have been for a long time... is it due to the economy and bad decisions from our politicians? Don't know... but I still remember a time when I didn't have to worry much about money... nowadays it seems everyone is just counting cents.... (and I include myself on that one).
massive cultural gap going on here, not everyone has equal opportunity, education, social factors but its the state's job to help all its citizens. BTW I don't think were too bad off with competitiveness we still are the biggest trading block in the world, you sound like a far right yank or British
Well, until in Europe "poverty" means walking around in the shop and buying as much stuff as the lady did, we don't have to be too scared. I mean, what poverty means to us in Europe, elsewhere is sometimes a dream.
@ernobius I know what youre saying. But we shouldnt compare us to countries like Africa where the poverty as is bad as it is there. We compare us to human rights. The right to be able to provide for youself and be healthy, mentally and physically among other rights. If you always compare yourself to those who have it worse in that way, its diminishing. Sure its good to remember how good we have it, but we should protect our rights.
If people would really use their money responsible then they would not live in poverty.
They missed: Two Packs of Cigarettes 10€, Six Pack Beer 4.99€

@matt0xFF you are a naive and ignorant. inform yourself about the reasons of poverty before you judge someone's actions!

While true, this sort of poverty should not be ignored. Europe must protect her own citizens as well as the rest of the world.
