No it wont break the wii, you know why? it's because you see japanese characters in names on online games etc, AnyRegion changer will warn you if you will lead to a brick.

My method is far less brick-prone and easier IMHO. Use Mii Extractor on a previously created mii, open the new SD card files in a mii editor, and paste in the Japanese characters. Even though they don't render properly in the editor, after deleting the old English mii on the console and using the Mii installer, the characters will be intact. It's magic.

I know another way that involves Bluetooth and a PC. Transfer a Mii to your Wiimote, use an online Mii maker and swap them using a Mii transfer app (connect your Wiimote via bluetooth first!). Make the name Japanese when you make it online and it will stay Japanese when you bring it back to your Wii. Sadly, you cannot edit them afterward. It treats it as if it was made by a different system.

The way you used is so much easier for Homebrew-enabled Wiis, though.
