re boristrap: Yes you can run those fully maxed out. But i recommand you go for an AM3 board and Phenom 955 if you buy a complete new setup. if our current motherboard is AM2+ still go for phenom 955 it works on AM2+ you will have more chance to sell the cpu in a few years if you want to upgrade because most people will have AM3 by then. and if you ever need another motherboard you can put a am3 in with ddr3 ram. but the upgrade to an AM3 board is not worth it if you still have an AM2+ board
Yeah, I hook the rest of the speakers up bout 2 weeks ago. Got the set for a deal (20 for the whole set) For the sound they put out I get pissed that home stereos cost so dam much. lol
My fault. It's the m2a79T board and it supports up 1600. It gets a little confusing on their sites. The memory controller only supports 4 gig up to 1600 officially. If you use 8 gig, it defaults to 1066. Had to really dig into the bios. It's best at 1333 8-8-8-20 1.8 vlt. I uped the Nothbridge 400mhtz and the HT bus 200mhtz to compensate the extra bandwidth. That's a sweet spot for me but can differ per board. They say ddr2, but they mean ddr3 (dual channel). pointlessly confusing for people.
woah, u gotta be shittin me. . . i hv a Phenom II and Scared shitless to oc it but here i am watching a PII 955 oc at 4.2 is amazing!! eventhough i have a third party coller(Coolermaster hyper212) im still scared shitless to reach that high. how much do you thin i can reach with my rig:
AMD Phenom II 940 3ghz
PAlit gtx 250 SP216 sonic(260+)
4GB DDR2 kingston hyperx
ASUS M4N78 PRO
vista home preme
?? how high can i oc. i tried to oc once and it reached 3.8 easily. nvr tried going beyond
btw ram is clocked at 800mhz, oc by changing cpu freq. value to 220. did u chg multiplier, can you teach me how to oc to 4ghz, thx. check out my video too./
If you hit 3.8 on the 940 that is deffinately the (sweet spot) for that cpu. You ahve a very good cpu cooler also (very well reviewed. Don't be too afraid to oc your board because I'm almost possitive it have on board surge protection and I crash free bios also. If you get BSOD's and just try a lil less voltage, adjust northbridge, etc. until you hit stable. Also, I run at 3.9ghz 24/7. When I go to 4.2, I shut 2 cores down, when I blow thru some video editing (doesn't use 4 anyway).
By the way, when I owned Core2Duo E4600, I used the similar tactic as you. It would not be stable at any settings above 2.8GHz and above 3.0 it wouldn't boot. So I got the speed to 2.8 and used a program to give it another 560MHz. Then it was running at 3.36. Core 2 Duos suck by the way. No L3 cache, slow memory response and lag in every game. Terribly low minimum FPS at explosions.
I believe so, only difference I noticed going from 6 to 8 gig was now I have no problem using Fraps while playing Crysis, downloading, and converting video at the same time. Man, I love these new chips and boards.
Aws0me vid man ^^. hey I am going to buy this cpu 2 in future, but i was wondering which OC settings u used to get it @ 4.2 Ghz . Did u oc it via BIOS ?, Overdrive or turboV. what kinda OC settings ?
I set it in the bios then used turboV to boost it up just a bit more to 4.2. (3.8 is 110% stable) I now have 8 GIG of OCZ Platinum memory, so it goes even faster now.
Yes they do, any fanboy sucks to be honest. If i7 systems were closer in price to AM3 systems, they'd have every right to brag. But as far as the cost\performance ratio is for "real world performance", AMD is now handing them their asses. And I always used intel before this build, so I just tell it how it is. Benchmarks are biased anyways.
Yeah, the 955 has some serious headroom. I's suggest sell the 810 on ebay or something and get the 955. Might end up only costing ya 50 bucks for a crazy upgrade, lol. Can you believe intel fanboys yell at me. They are just mad that they coulda saved 4 grand by going AMD. :)
I bet your still running this comp its so powerfull

now your PC is a beast, no doubt :P but HAWX isnt that much of a demanding game, i run it at max with an X1650 and Athlon X2 2,3 Ghz, around 30 fps
