  • I did not have a capo so I used the cords from the "CAGED" system using my first finger like a capo. Was really excited when I played the rest of the video and I was right on the verse even the "twiddles", not so good on the chorus though. I had the G and the F but kept trying to put C in the wrong place to use up all the cords.

    Thank you for the exercise.

  • Great video. Thanks! You're awesome... I worked it out, just needed the fills bit. Oh, and the name of the Shins guy is .... work it out .... it is ... really, work it out.... okay: James Mercer.

  • I watched all your videos about a year ago when i was starting. its really awesome to watch them again now and totally be able to do stuff that was impossible just a year ago.

  • and i d look back f as a g haha go job though dude.

  • is the Capo a must to play this song?

  • no one seems to be able to play the lead guitar part for this song

  • "tied to a D, sweet as an F" haha made me bust up!

  • dude..you are just awesome. THANKS!!!

  • great! twidley bits, haha...wish i had a cool south african vocab~

  • i like this guy (:

  • this is so great! thank you so much!

  • hey, nice lesson! but i still didnt get a part which in A chord.. how to make the additional sound? when i do the same thing that justin do, it does not sound like justin do. the sound it different when he picking slowly. it happened same thing when i picking faster. is his acoustic guitar effect the sound? help me! thx again to justin!!!

  • you might not be the best guitarist in the world but you're one of the best guitar teachers on the net.Thank you=)

  • i think he is among the greatest, and the teaching is THE GREATEST!

  • tied to a d sweet as an f hahahahahahahha. laughed so hard, but good fucking job.

  • Just wanna say you give the best lesson on you tube keep up the good work thanks

  • you rock man

  • Wow, thank you very much for this. Very helpful!!

  • DUDE I LOVE YOU!

  • You've got a nice sound coming out of that guitar.

Can anyone tell me what make it is?

  • I never wanted to bother with a capo before but after seeing this it just makes me feel that this song is worth it

  • oh sweet..I've been trying to figure out the chords on this song for years...man you are a godsend to the newbie guitarist.

  • nicely done.

    ps. UR SEXY :D

  • you're a good teacher.Thanks for posting this.

  • His F is way different then mine, whats up with that?

  • probably the capo?

  • He plays a Baree F, wich is, ofcourse, a bit different then the normal one. But if you count the notes on both cords, ya see they are quite the same ^^ its just what you prefer really. the normal F sounds a bit cleaner to me, but like i said, just do what you feel best at doing ^^

  • Awesome band, The Shins. Only discovered them within the last year myself. Thanks a lot Justin. And i've written some notes down and will be trying to work this out myself over the next few days. :)

  • that was great, can you please post the little intro riff at the start as well. PLEASE????

  • hey! thanks for the lesson! you can see what i've made of it on my account! if u have any comments, feel free to post them! Grtz from Holland

    greets from austria!

  • your great for doing this, thanks man :D

  • brilliant

  • I watched this yesterday, but I actually turned if off when he said to. Then I wrote down the chords he said, went and bought a capo and played around with it last night, though without the song to listen to. I didn't figure much out, but that's because I'm a little slow. Now that I've seen the rest I'm eager to try it out again. I love guitar more everyday! And these lessons are awsome :)

  • the scent of your "D"...finally backfired on you justin...haha

  • Hey Justin, Thanks for taking the time to do these lessons. I really enjoy your style of teaching. You really make it fun, while sticking with the lesson at hand. You just seem so geniune and easy to understand, I can't explain exactly what it is, but I like all your videos.

  • twiddly bits

  • ur right, i had it incorrectly labeled! oops.

  • nope its on chutes too narrow...

  • singing the chords in the lyrics was cool move.

  • Does anybody know the tuning of the harmonica that mercer uses in this song?

  • My guess is G

  • Actually I think it's Bb, there's been a discussion on that on a Pink Bullets live video somewhere here and Bb "got most votes".

  • Ahh i was wondering why it sounded weird

  • hes alredy explaining the harder wich is the WHOLE song u can find the mutes urself dopp

  • i agree he needs to explain the mutes

  • the mutes during the verse are what makes this riff. I was hoping he'd explain those.

  • Thank you for doing this; I have a simple mind and I really appreciate clear instruction! Peace ;)

  • What's the strumming pattern for the chorus(G, D, etc?)? I can't seem to get it right!

  • This guy really needs to publish DVD's I would buy 'em in a second especially if he has the Shins' new slang

  • he has DVD's but I don't think any more shins.

  • As sweet as an F xD hahahah, you're awesome.

  • lol i really triead do it by ear at first but then i just gave up and looked at the lesson then i see he has a fucking capo. and i was like

  • thank you sooooo much...i would have never gotten the little riffs without you

  • ps... He does a similar slidey thing on a track called "The Past and Pending". It's on the G in the verse. But, I would guess by listening it may be a bend?

Also, that track has a similar strumming pattern as "Pink Bullets". Simple and nice song as well.
