Have you noticed that all these people attacking Gary in the comments have their accounts closed. I think its just one failed popstar from the 80s, some new romantic also- ran whose career never too off, slagging gary off under various names.
hi i am a boy named teddy i am 7 years old and i have scary eyes and no ears or nose if u do not send this to 15 people i will arrive in ur room tonight and i will bring my knife n stab u to death this is not a joke if u send this to 15 videos before u go to bed something good will happen either u will get asked out on the computer or someone will say that they luv u or they will call u at 10:22 u can not send this to me
If this was the late 1980's the same thing happend to all the singers here (well most of them), the recording industry and radio stations, and MTV type stations all gave great bands the boot, then replaced them all with hair bands and grunge rock. After the 90's shallow rap and repetative dance music decade music has got a lot better again after 2000+, people have been turning more and more back to the 'early' 1980's sounds but kicking it up a notch with todays muscial equipment.
Knew this fella back then you arse, had loads of friends then and now I hope, thought he spoke really well on behalf of us that were there that day and still here now.
Fair play mate, couldn't have put it any better, top geezer.P.S Numan IS still going by the way!!!!!
Funny but at the time fans felt strongly by the way , in the end it wasn't only Numan fans doing this you had fans from other bands doinmgthe same thing anyway Radio 1 got their comeuppance as very few listen to that shit station anymore
I for one don't Blame the Numan fans at that time becuase for being a Numan now at the age 16 nobody has a clue who he is so it's more of cult now then was back then.
Anyway if your record was produced by SAW (Stock Aitken Waterman) in the mid to late 80's you would get instant air play on radio 1 if not you didn't get played at all or very little. Radio became a station for kiddeboppers and now it's just crap and out of date.
Sounds about right. The mid 80s was when Radio 1 stopped being relevant to anyone aged over 12. This video says more about the decline of the BBC's independance from commercial interests than it does about Gary Numan.
Gary is an absolute Pioneer for the New Romantic/New Wave scene to come out of the late 70's. He is one of my prime musical influences. I hate it when people criticize him for the synthesizers, how ignorant.
I'm a fan of Numans music, but I draw the line at demanding any radio station plays his records. Supreme arrogance, which only pushed him back to the lower reaches of the Top 75 for the next umpteen years.
What year was this recorded? By his haircut, its probably in the Metal Rhythm era

I think it was either 1986 or 1987.I have an article about BBC Radio 1 not playing his music in an old N.M.E of the time.
chrisf242 5 years ago
Radio 1 did not criticise him for the synthesizers, they didnt like the music and so his fans did a protest outside BBC studios.

It was an embarrassing episode. Don't forget the demo was staged at the time of dross like This Is Love and I Can't Stop.

The moment the fans ruined Garys career for good. Very embarrassing.
