  • Ridiculous. I was in Shanghai and Beijing this summer for two weeks in total, and not a single day did I see a blue sky. Smog, smog, smog, and a tour guide recommended we go to the olumpics site at night when smog is less noticeable. At one point in Chinese history a rebel leader could persuade people that the blue sky was being replaced by a yellow one. PRC leaders may still believe in such absurd propaganda power ... So sad. Water does not taste well either in China.

  • What can I say? These are the pics I took when I was there! It's plain to see that there can be plenty of blue sky. Of course that doesn't mean that Beijing has smoggy days too though.

My point is that Beijing is just another city that of course will have pollution due to having over 14 million people, but if NYC or Toronto had 14 million within it's city limits then the pollution would surely be much worse than Beijing.

Beijing and Shanghai are also very humid, hard to see the sky through H2o

  • You did not and do not have to say anything before checking the statistics. Beijing population density is about 1000 per square km. Manhattan population density is about 10,000, for 8 million people and 20km by 4km island. I see blue sky in Manhattan everyday if it is not cloudy. For about a week in Beijing I did not see any this summer, even the morning after it thunder showered. Do not forget New York is humid too. Water vapor, fyi, is transparent. Be objective.

  • You are wrong I have seeen Beijing before, the PLA army showed us a Free tian an men tour.

  • that was very nice of them.

  • That was the tian an men massacre, idiot!

  • @Jianghua2

Chinese people under age 30 don't know anything about the Tiananmen Square protests, so they won't understand your post.

By the way, I was in China for 6 weeks, and saw blue sky for MAYBE 2 days. Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Kunmning...etc etc just smog. People were very nice though, lots to see and do, and the food was fantastic. Don't drink the tea though...I came back with parasites.

  • @baguazhang2 no one can go to China and NOT drink tea. I always drink the tea there, also the beer, the wine, the juice, the coke and more beer. I never had a problem. That being said I did get a bit sick when I ate some goubuli boazi in Tianjin. I probably didn't drink enough beer that day to kill any bacteria from the kitchen.

  • These photos were taken during olympic time haha

  • Very good. It only says that under "more info" on the top right.

Glad you were able to figure that out jianghua! lol

I know you haven't seen Beijing before so this video is extra good for you.

  • That's why the sky is blue not grey ROFL

  • I didn't know the CCP was that powerful that they could turn the sky blue whenever they want.

That's a pretty cool trick, go find me a video that explains how they turned the sky blue.

  • Nope but full of pollution now.

  • Beauty photos. Some people would be surprised to hear that Beijing is not full of concrete ghettos and factories.

  • It's hard to have great visibility when the relative humidity is 90%+. People think that it's pollution but come on! If it was all pollution then there would be no life there, and there obviously heaps of life everywhere you go in Beijing.

    nice vid.

  • stfu u japanese reject

  • this must have been one day out of the year

  • Unbelievable, give your head a shake if you're actually serious.

  • Ahem... China is not jammed packed with rich people like the UAE. Every city has it's "poor people" and they seem to mix right in with everyone else. The Chinese don't like to segragate and categorize it's citizens (like the west).

Maybe that is a concept too difficult for many westerners to comprehend.

  • Really? What about the poor people? Have you gone to see where they live?

  • Yes I have. These people won't stab you in the neck for a pack of cigarettes.

  • Beijing is a great city. Some TV networks show Beijing as beautiful and others often try to mislead the viewers.

Actually I was a little surprised that the American NBC network is pretty good for showing Beijing in a fair and honest manner. I only hope that it continues.

  • Beijing is beautiful...

  • Well done. 真好看

  • I like this video, pictures do not lie. Sometimes you never know what kind of spin the media puts on news. Personal videos and pictures are always much more neutral.

  • Thanks for the compliment I guess, but my photos were not edited at all. Is it that hard to believe that Beijing is a large but normal city?

The pollution is definately not as thick as the bias and discrimination.

  • Kochie and Mel - first Beijing report - Sunrise

  • This doesn't look like a true video. It looks like a collection of still photos, each of which looks highly edited in terms of color. Nice pictures, but I don't think they do very much to refute the argument that Beijing has terrible air pollution when compared with other large cities in the world.

  • Good job, Xiao Bai!

  • Good video, your photos show a Beijing that we don't usually see here on the western media.
