this is what capitalism creates . sad how Philadelphia has like the fourth highest GDP in the United States of America yet North Philly and other parts are some of the most underserved and impoverished areas
@REALCITYbred You are clueless. I went to a rural school which spent less money per child than most inner city schools, but it didn't have any of this kind of stupidity happening. If you did something like this the principal would have called your parents and it would either have been dealt with or the whole town would have dealt with you. I taught in a private school which spent pennies on the dollar to any public school and, again, nothing like this would ever have happened.
@REALCITYbred I work with inner city children often. I'm going to spend a week there next week. I DO have exposure to what is going on in their schools and families. The solutions are not simple, but the problem is NOT capitalism as YOU state.
@TheShoreBroadcasting u went to rural school, and taught in private schools. u have little experience with the issues that take place in poor innercity schools. really now , who here is clueless?? be real with urself before u trick urself into thinking there are simple solutions to things like this that routinely happen and have been for decades
@TheShoreBroadcasting I'm clueless? yet ur using ur small personal example from a rural area that doesn't have nearly the amount of systemic problems inner city philly does and try to apply it as a rule to all. and of course the priv school u taught in didnt have this going on, THEIR FAMILY SITUATIONS were strong.how do u know the principal here didnt punish the kids?how do u kno the kids themselves didnt face vanalism charges.the point is, they allowed the schools to remain like this
Vallas was in Chicago, which has seen 21 students die so far this year. When are parents going to be held accountable for their out of control children, especially the absentee fathers? Maybe these urban school systems can use stimulus money for mandatoryparent training. Either take a aparenting class or lose benefits. Stop placing the blame squarely on teachers!
I've worked in many different schools and I can tell you that the condition of every individual school has 90% to do with the attitude of the students' parents.
If the parents teach their kids that school is a stupid waste of time and do not make them understand that they have to respect public property, they will never learn and will destroy everything. The laws are such that now teachers and principals have no means by which to really control and discipline students. Schools are constantly threatened with bogus lawsuits by parents who will not hear of their own darling child being punished or expelled for disruptive and criminal behavior.
It's a shame that this kind of thing goes on but honestly this is not the fault of the city and state. BTW-I went to some very poor schools in rural Lancaster County but I received a decent education there. The kids I went to school with were expected by their parents to do well and most did despite the crowded classrooms, old text books, and tiny outdated library. Infact, the majority of us went on to college. Attitude is everything when it comes to education.
Philly rules.... theres no point of showing this video.... just cause the kids are fuckin dirtballs and want to ruin there own school don't mean you should film it and put it on youtube.
What kind of message do you think these kids get from attending a school like this? Do you truly think that they feel like anyone cares about them? Obviously you don't because you sound very ignorant. Kids simply don't choose to go to schools like these, they don't have access to the "good" schools. Jerk.
uhhh no not really.... i went to a school exactly like the one in the video.... the kids just ruined shit all time like the bathrooms and walls and shit like that.... even if they went to a "good" catholic school they would still do it.... so i dont really know what your talking about

the holes are there because the kids kick them in and pull it apart. whenever it gets fixed, the kids just mess it up again.

Why are there holes in the walls?

It's Philadelphia, unfortunately. The kids rarely care about the condition of their schools, like Simon Gratz or Whittier.

Does anyone here agree with me that Paul Vallas is a horse's patoot?

He partnered with Microsoft to build High School of the Future, which is a very good Philadelphia school.
